in 1968 when I was a teenager, I was aware that those who drank ("boozers") were noisier, more aggressive and violent than those of us smoking weed ("stoners"). While they were yelling and fighting we were giggling and laid back. Alcohol is a lot more destructive than cannabis. There are liquor stores all around my city; cannabis is illegal.

Mark B yep just a money hungry business man using philanthropy and race discrimination to totally milk it. The end of his talk hinted at his real attitude towards ganja. Saying he wanted it legal did not mean he endorsed it. Phuh.

*Rolls eyes Yet another person on the internet wanting marijuana legalised. Drugs affect poor people more so of course banning them would. If drugs are legal like alcohol they'll be made as much and consumed as much and people's health will suffer as much. Legalising drugs because alcohol is legal is 2 wrongs make a right logic.

that's a dumb argument. 1. people ARE going to consume it anyways, your not going to stop it, throwing people in jail just makes it far more lucrative. the profit goes up along with risk. 2. the war on drugs is racist with far more black people being thrown in jail even though just as many white people use cannabis. 3. alcohol is actually far worse then cannabis, if you legalize you might actually solve some drinking related problems. people dont smoke a joint and beat up their spouse, it does not happen. marijuana is non-toxic in the sense that it is impossible to overdose, people can die from drinking in a single night. marijuana also generally does not cause dependence, the only people in "treatment" for marijuana "dependency" are placed their by parents that dont know any better OR court order. alcohol is far worse then marijuana, and if you drink you are a hypocrite consuming one of the most intoxicating substances available. should be ban the use of alcohol?? no, we tried that and it does not work. it does not work with cannabis either. every time you read about another marijuana bust, that's tax payers money being wasted on an utterly failed policy. you will read about another one tomorrow, and another the day after. stop wasting tax dollars on something that would actually create jobs and pay tax bills. also stop banning industrial hemp simply because its a form of marijuana that's useful for things besides an intoxicating plant. you can make plastics from hemp that biodegrade, instead we are filling our environment with toxic oil based plastics that will never go away. look up plastic patch in the ocean, if that was industrial hemp the problem would fix itself.

You are not listening at all. Marijuana isn't toxic or physically addictive. Yeah weed may cull someone's ambition. But not all. Making it a crime on top of it has ruined many lives across the board. If you've ever watched a documentary on when and why it was made illegal, you would have learned that it would have cut into the cotton, alchohol and pharmaceutical industries so the titans of industry made a campaign to lie and turn people off to the idea. You must be one of them.

This successful Bucknell graduate hits us with the discrimination/life ain't fair for minorities BS. If he really wanted to legalize pot, he would talk about how many college educated whites have had their futures tarnished because of marijuana charges. Sell to the audience that can actually make changes to the law, not the people that already agree with your viewpoints. How can you justify legalizing a drug because the people that willingly chose to break the law by dealing drugs have had to face the consequences? The high level of incarceration of minorities vs. whites has a lot to do with the environment that many minorities and lower income individuals were raised in. An environment where dealing drugs is an easier, more lucrative way to make money than the opportunities that are available without a degree. Drugs are used to escape reality. They might be beneficial for some, but I am willing to bet Marijuana has killed more dreams than it has created.

Coming from him, it is BS. He has all along really just wanted legalization asap so he can sell heaps to the very same people and become the Bill Gates of weed. As of today, with thanks to generous government coddling, he got his wish. Now YOU? YOU can only grow 12 plants in your domicile.

Susan B Anderson ..also divergent and oblique... education is the right key. A serious understanding of how habit/addiction form and what THC, the mild mental stimulation is capable of doing, both positive and negative. It is understandable that no middle ground is reached or covered because the war on drugs has only provided a extremely one sided version of ganja which is totally misguided and relentless in its public misinformation agenda and its official miseducation which has been propagated persistently for year and years. Why then should the knowledgeable underground and legalisation movement tell any truths either? All they have heard is exaggeration and lies since day one. However, they too are guilty of providing a one sided picture, but not as bad obviously. It also seems to me that by holding out your federal government are waiting patiently for you ganja industry to hang itself with it own rope. With no real education provided it seems and money hungry businessmen leading the charge, this kind of propulsion rings alarm bells and surely will continue to cause contention from both sides of the fence. Again, real education is key. Moderate use not abuse. Those that claim otherwise are deluded. Yes I think ganja is a good medicine and should be legal for recreational use but real education is badly needed. Honesty, truth, and understanding are especially essential.
