Developed FND at 12/13, diagnosed at 15. I have severe tics, seizures, fatigue, etc, and am terrified of the future, but glad it’s finally coming further to the forefront

I have this illness. I used to be able to walk. But now my legs and arms are definitely getting weaker. I also take mini strokes and ashtma attacks and panic attacks. Now I use a electric scooter. I can walk around the house. But when I'm outside I feel scared. Because it's so very wide and scary. That's why I use my scooter

Thank you for sharing, I've been diagnosed since 2018 and here in this part of America it's almost unheard of. Its the worst part of my day, but I manage. I'm not alone and I need to remind myself of that.

@@fantasticfrances idk, just my age I think, but I was only 14 when it escalated, I had symptoms when I was younger (throat clearing, saying phrases over and over again, blinking hard), my mom who didn't believe me just ignored it and said i was fine 🙄

@@whatamievendoinganymore4766 i feel like I’m in a similar situation. I had small tics when I was younger but no one else noticed them (I used to make a sniffing noise and my classmates would complain and I would keep swallowing over and over again in assembly). In the Covid pandemic they escalated and I’ve been diagnosed with a tic disorder. I’m concerned that with all the ‘tiktok tics’ stuff going on it’ll get dismissed as being that and I’ll get diagnosed with FND which seems to be what they’re diagnosing that as. But honestly after reflecting on my childhood I think there’s a good chance that it’s Tourette’s syndrome

The symptoms are so different in so many people. It almost seems that no one has the exact same symptoms or cause, which makes it hard to diagnose and treat. I developed visual issues after a migraine in 2020 and my symptoms went from bad to worse. At my worst I had 100 symptoms both visual and non visual. They constantly change and fluctuate in severity. Mine is connected to VSS.

Hello, guys! One of my closest friends was recently diagnosed with FND. Half of his body is paralyzed, he's receiving treatment and has made some progress since then, so I'm not too worried about him. But the interesting thing about his case is that he had several dreams prior to the onset of his symptoms in which half of his body was a statue. Has anyone here ever gone through a similar experience?

I think with all theses things that are happening to people and get an answer I really think they need to do a chain to see what s been affected ,what not there or missing out of the chain then most of these things could be treated or know the link what is missing ,and can we put it back ,good luck to all the brave people that are going through it 😀

Well depends on how you look at it. 4 to 12 in every 100,000 people develop FND and there is roughly 7.753 billion= 7,753,000,000 people in the world which would mean there is roughly 930,360 people who have FND. But sadly I feel FND is one of the conditions that is under diagnosed because of several reasons.

Where did this illness come from? There are more children and teenagers suffering from something which requires the use of wheelchairs, crutches etc. When did medics create this mass hysteria of alleged rare illness? FND does not cause the myriad of symptoms but the symptoms do cause the patient to be labelled! Recovery is possible when the mind is enabled to understand full recovery is possible. How sad for the patients who with better early intervention could leave their crutches behind.

It's not known as that anymore since they have more information on it. Functional neurological disorder is a problem with the functioning of the nervous system and how the brain and body sends and/or receives signals. Which can be triggered by physical injury, infectious illness, panic attack or migraine. Functional neurological disorder has now been found to not even been linked to anything psychiatric. Also, it wasn't a terrible description they described it well.

Uh no. Conversion disorder is outdated. The belief that FND is psychological is outdated too. It’s neurological, it’s not called conversion disorder (because it’s not always from trauma) and it’s a very real and serious condition.
