teenage engineering choir’s midi compatibility is where the magic really happens. conduct your choir with OP-1 field, OP-Z, or any midi keyboard with ble connectivity.
to connect OP-1 field, simply put it in pairing mode for midi, then hold down the button on one doll to pair the whole choir (it will sing that it’s searching for a controller and when it is connected). then you’re ready to play! choir will instantly sing the notes in your composition. you can adjust the qualities of the vibrato, consonants, vowels and reverb via the navy, ochre, grey and orange keys respectively. view the web guide to learn more.

This is somthing differerent, from a craftsman myself and a designer perspective, its clear that Teenage engineering is pushing the boundries, in a playfull way. Price seems fair enoug. Don't under estimate the craftsmanship that is being put into these, please keep on playing TE, at least you're doing it. I can't afford it mysefl but I do think its amazing.

The fact that each has an individual range is really charming in its limitations, and 250 is absolutely reasonable, if you wanted one. It's easy to feel like they're suggesting you need all 8 but you certainly don't. There is some novelty here, which instantly makes it not for everybody. But for the person who wants one or two or all eight, they're very special. I'll enjoy watching people demo them.

@@AeDevices 100% by hands Of coarse not, crafted/made by hands today means: assembled by human hands,, wooden parts are sanded by machines, but also by hands. I assume many parts are CnC machined. Turning wood by hand for instance doesn't make sense. having them in my hands, means I could really inspect, the what and how, Just know that there is a lot more done by hand then you think..

That was my initial thought. Sounds like limited versions of Korg's Miku Stomp pedal inside wooden dolls. 😄 If they made a small plain metal box with all eight circuits in it that costs around $250 I would probably buy one!

Very creative idea , niche market , good business move as the wealthy are the only people with money and 2k on this is a rich mans toy . Its a great idea as a business and the tones are really lovely and quirky . The clever part here is that its defining a new market a bit . Toy collectors are going to love this as much as creative sound designers and musicians . The workmanship looks stunning .

@@ap0ria worth it for some, not worth it for others, like many things. Thankfully TE is free to do what they are passionate about, and we are free to poopoo it or enjoy it. There is an installation in a local art gallery, where the room is the interior of an old church, and there are dozens of pillars/speakers, each with a different voice, together making a choir. This is kind of like that, but the voice is not recorded but some kind of internal synth, controllable via BLE midi. I think it is brilliant.

No I think the dolls have already have the sounds programmed and built into it. The blue tooth midi controller will allow you to control and play it
