im an 8 year op1 user/fan ..... to be honest i was looking forward and very excited to the new feature but for a 10 year update, this was really disappointing...and its no even about the price! i would pay 2k for a real op1 on steroidsor, actually a op2.0 but this was definitely not it! this is just a op1.5 with some updates that could not be done via software.....i still think TE is a great company and still will keep using my op1 OG until we actually get a op2.0 in 10 years maybe who knows!

A lot of you are missing the point. There's nothing else on the market with this physical workflow, small form factor, and set of features that you just can sit with in your lap and play with. And if it's so easy to do a unit like this - why are the op-1 still the only one of its kind?
@chickenpasta7359
@chickenpasta7359 Жыл бұрын
Ok, but do you think it's worth $2000? Don't you think they're taking advantage of an already niche community? Let me remind you that the original OP-1 first sold for $1,299 (which at the time was severely overpriced)... Nobody cares about the point of a device when the people marketing and selling it increases the price 40% over its original value while adding almost nothing new to it all because the used market was vastly overestimating this toy. A better alternative would pretty much be an iPad, a device that is just as portable but can do so much more than this thing. But keep simping for Teenage Engineering

I love this thing but oh man do I wish they just added a shit load of fx. I just bought a Korg Wavestate for 400 bucks and I swear it has like 30-40 different reverbs, and an insane amount of other fx. They easily could have added similar stuff if not more at this price point. I get the idea of a stripped back workflow but why for the price.

Thanks in advance!

Yes the price is insane, but in terms of inspiration and immediacy it’s hard to find anything similar. People are happy to shell out $3000 on a Moog, but I would go out on a limb and say that in recent years the OP1 would have inspired or made it’s way onto more tracks than most synths out there. And so who knows, even with this crazy price tag, maybe $ per inspired track might actually not look too bad? Jack seems more excited about this than any other synth I’ve seen him demo and that speaks volumes.

I can attest to this. I have quite a few analog synths (Moog and Dave smiths / sequentials) but I play my OP1 more than anything. I’ll be upgrading to the op1 field. It’s like a Leica camera, the cost doesn’t make sense until you click with it

If I was an OP-1 devotee, and it had really helped me create songs, and/or I had a stupid amount of money in the bank, then maybe I would buy one. It is not just a toy, and many people love it and can make some excellent music with it. However, the most troubling things are the myriad anecdotes of TE’s appalling customer service and the apparent contempt they have for their high-spending customers.

My feelings exactly. Great little device but the elitist pricing decisions are, frankly, insulting. I can buy two or three great sounding synths and a couple effects pedals, or a very nice vintage synth for the $3000 this little gizmo costs here in Canada. I know the material and manufacturing costs don't warrant such a high retail price. It's all about marketing to a specific buyer. That buyer is clearly not me.

Iphone/Ipad and nanokeys pro runs circles around the Op-1. That's if you only use GarageBand. Endless possibilities with AUM and huge library of cheap/free music apps. So many improvements over the original. Whatever your view on the price is, this is a brilliant little device. Having seen this I sort of remember from owning an OP-1, there wasn't really any LFOs to assign to parameters, was that the case? and is it still?
@mverzola

Not the case. Hitting “4” while in synth or drum mode brings up the modulation. You can use an LFO, accelerometer, the audio input, etc. and assign is to any parameter of the synth or FX.

There's no denying it's expensive. It's the price of a very capable laptop. But, like many products from Teenage Engineering, whether it be their Pocket Operators (which are insanely good) or their smaller OP-Z sequencer, they make great portable music gear. Yes, a lot of this is from a brand with very strong minimalist aesthetic and high Apple-esque prices, but their products make great music and have a lot of thought put into them. I have not owned a OP-1 original, but experimented with it when it was first released and it was apparent it's a very capable, feature rich machine. It appears that the OP-1 Field is a very worthy successor/update to the original in every way.

haha imagine having 2000 to spend and not buy a juno 106 or even a juno x ,synths with iconic sounds and you buy this plastic shit with flat toy synth sounds and graphics for 10yolds lol

Well the Juno-X doesn't have "iconic" sound. You're better off with a System-8 for the Juno sound

@@Wagoo Juno x does sound pretty good though.. it is easy to hate on it, but it is a great sounding synth Roland made there.

@@wurlinnawurl Sure, Zen Core is a good sounding VA engine, but it shouldn't be used to "impersonate" other synths via ABM parameter templates when Roland already have ACB for that, which will do component level modeling. When you make something in that shell, that looks very much like a Juno.. it's madness to then not use your best Juno engine in there.. I think ABM could work better if it was a system feature open to end users with Zen Core synths, so we could play about with giving the engine different characters and save those as ABM patches

@@Wagoo juno x has aaallll the iconic sounds and more,it doesnt have "its sound" but thats the way its made as you know.for my ears sounds are the same to the originals.I like system-8 its an amazing synth too with just one problem : its interface ,its so ugly i cant work with it,doesnt inspire me when i sit in front of it :(

I can think of 20 or 30 instruments or equipment I would buy with that money. Most recently, the Akai MPC Key 61.
