PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION:
This is a basic tutorial for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (Super Nintendo, SNES). A guide for both Beginners and experienced players that might help the next time you play in some facet. Since this is a basic guide, I will simply cover all the moves you can do, featuring Leonardo.
Recommended difficulty for newbies or inexperienced players: Normal.
If you want a good challenge once you've beaten the game a couple times on Normal, try Hard difficulty for the "True Ending" Take note what Splinter says when you beat Normal, and then Hard.
This video discusses:
- Recommended Options to modify before playing. Increasing Rest (Lives) to 7 (seven), Changing the Control Type to C (Button Configuration, Config), and setting Dash from Auto to Manual. Manual gives you more control.
- The approximate (guesstimated) stats (statistical analysis of Strength / Power, Defense, Reach / Range, and Speed of all the turtle characters you can choose.
- How to Grapple your foes (enemies) into submission. Grappling with Ground Pound, and Throwing Foot Soldiers at the screen (Fourth Wall).
- The different types of Jump attacks available to use dependant on timing during the jump. Some of these being very effective in certain situations or against certain enemies.
- Breaking an Enemies guard, the only ways to break the enemies defenses if they are blocking with just your Turtle.
As with any video game, some things are just best to be discovered by the player. For example, learning a bosses attack patterns so you can more easily avoid damage, essentially the ability to "DODGE!" - Piccolo.
Arcade version is up to 4 players, snes version is 1-2 players.
---
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time, released as Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles: Turtles in Time in Europe, is an arcade video game produced by Konami. A sequel to the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) arcade game, it is a scrolling beat 'em up type game based mainly on the 1987 TMNT animated series. Originally an arcade game, Turtles in Time was ported to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992 under the title Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time, continuing the numbering from the earlier Turtles games released on the original NES. That same year, a game that borrowed many elements, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist was released for the Mega Drive/Genesis.
Years later, the arcade version of Turtles in Time was revisited on newer consoles. A slightly altered version of the arcade game was included as an unlockable bonus in the 2005 game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: Mutant Nightmare. On 5 August 2009, Ubisoft released a 3D remake of the game, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled, available as a download for Xbox 360 via Xbox Live Arcade. A downloadable PlayStation 3 version was later released via PlayStation Network on September 10, 2009
Like its predecessor, Turtles in Time was available for the arcades in two and four-player versions. In the two-player versions, each player gets to choose which of the four turtles they wish to control, whereas in the four-player versions the characters are assigned to the control panel from left to right in the following order: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael. Each playable character has his own strengths and weaknesses. New features in this game include the ability to execute a power attack by hitting an enemy several times in a row, and the ability to slam Foot Soldiers into surrounding enemies.
Players guide the turtles through a series of levels. The first takes place in the streets of New York City. Later levels transport the turtles to representations of various historical eras. In each level, players face enemies from both the 1987 cartoon and the feature film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, including Foot Soldier and Stone Warriors. Bosses include the fly form of Baxter Stockman, Metalhead, Tokka and Rahzar and Leatherhead.

Stone you just made my day by playing this classic game. ME and my mom used to go to arcades when I was younger and play all the good beat em ups at the time like X-men, TMNT, The Simpsons,Double Dragon and more. Now I can't get her to touch any game anymore haha. But this reminds me of simpler times and ....just thank you friend for the good vibes and playing a great classic .

Y’know SNES had the multi tap that allowed for 4-players and I can’t think of a better application for that obscure device than to use it for this game. However, I’m wondering if four action-packed turtles on the screen would’ve resulted in some serious lag. Regardless I always picked Michelangelo and my brother always picked Leonardo, but still I always wanted to play the SNES version with friends to play all 4 turtles

the only thing you've messed up on. is the kick attacks to some extent. The quick jump kick attack does minimal damage. While the more down air kick attack, deals standard damage. the rest is very spot on! good job! Note: The fly-swatter air attack does more damage. And funny thing. the bull-charge attack and the kick, after the bull-charge, Does serious damage. Useful for killing tougher enemies. (And breaks blockers...Minus slash's epic block.)

Appreciate the feedback, when making this video, I probably wasn't thinking about the damage output of each jump attack. At least this covers most things as far as I know.

I use type J, K, or L for the classic A to jump and B to attack. Setting the lives to 5 your first extra life is at 100 and every 200. Other lives setting is just every 200. I experimented Action Replay to give me 9800 points and I get every lives for every kill after 9900 due to a programming bug, thinking you need 10000, even the score stops at 9999, the game treats 10000 as 0 as the game uses hexadecimal digits instead of integers. If you want to get a time of 0 hours, 0 minutes, and 0 seconds, play the game for exactly 100 hours in-game time. I recommend using TAS tools. Use the Konami Code on controller 2 so you can select 10 lives from the options menu.

Turns out, you can control this aspect of the game as seen in this tips n' tricks, tutorial-like video. Grappling the target and throwing ground slamming them back and forth or even tossing them at the screen (Foreground). Too bad you had an annoying classmate but at least you had someone to play TMNT IV with back in the day.

I wished there was such kind of tutorial back in 90s... That would be much more fun to know such tips. Btw, even this game is quite flashback, never gets old. Always fun to play. I never gave up on this and Final Fight 3 co-ops. Love to play those with my friends. Oh yeah, recently a developer has been working with a kind of SNES emulator which you can play locally or even via Internet on Android. Must try. Multi Snes9x. I hope it helps. 😉

Thanks for commenting, it truly does take more effort and often times multiple playthroughs to learn these extra and unique mechanics in nearly all games, especially the NES, and Super Nintendo era. By practicing, I learned all of these things as a young teen back in the day not having that many games and not always having the luxury of renting games, the games that we bought we all played like it was a religious experience, we played the games to death and for me, by doing this with TMNT 4 or Mega Man 3, I learned a lot and got pretty good at the games.

I know you had 333 likes but I just had to like so I'm 334. I'm sorry. Also wanted to say thanks for these tips. I always wanted to know how certain attacks was triggered like the throw and the ground pound as you call it. As for the character's stats; I knew Raphael was fast & short while Donatello being the opposite to him as the Long range but less powerful member. - The leader, Leonardo, of course being the well balanced member as I assumed but I never knew Michelangelo actually had the most Power and Defense in the group (until this video). - I wondered what his actual abilities were compared to the rest. I didn't play as him much compared to the rest. The other 3 were obvious when you play the game but Mike I just assumed if he was maybe another balanced member like Leonardo but with certain stats high and low adjusted to be a bit opposite to Leo like Dona and Raph were to each other. Thanks for making this video (though this is a 2016 video and it's 2022 for me so wow). My reason for searching because the new TMNT Beat em up, Shredders Revenge, is coming and I wanted to play TMNT IV again before it's release. Playing Hard is no joke so wanted to learn some tips I may not known since already done Normal.

What make more sense for beginners, easy mode with rest 3 or hard with 7?
@StoneMonkWisdom
@StoneMonkWisdom 4 жыл бұрын
If the beginner is legitimately planning to see the best / full ending for TMNT IV Turtles and intends to play Hard Mode to do that in the near future, I would say play on Normal Mode with however many REST (lives) they wish the first couple times through the game. Also if the Beginner isn't super enthusiastic about playing video games and you're trying to get them to like TMNT4, I still say Normal mode but with 7 REST (Lives). If you know the Beginner likes to overcome difficult challenges, definitely go for Hard mode but easy mode should never really be played, gotta gain skills in games that translate to other games and for your pride! The official answer to your question if I can only pick one of those two variants you've set, I'd say Hard Mode with 7 REST.

Okay. I've gotta ask. Does anyone else ever remember when throwing them, the foot soldiers smacking into the screen for a moment, before sliding off it? Sometimes the screen would "crack," but not every time. I have this strong memory, but it doesn't seem to be in the game anymore. Now they just disappear instantly. Also, when some of them flip over, upside-down and backwards, it looks very foreign to me. Possible mandela effect? This game offers some residual evidence of mandela effect for the Statue of Liberty being on Ellis Island as well. Look at the pedestal. That's what it looked like on Ellis Island. It doesn't look like that at all now on *Liberty* Island.

the Retrosaur Yeah, that's exactly what I thought, at first. I've played the SNES and Arcade versions, and I've since watched footage of every version, and the way it happens during the fight with shredder is not at all how I remember the animation. It's so bizarre!

Yeah, the stats in my video are mostly guesstimates based on my own playing and seeing an article in a gaming magazine once to which I tried to recreate to the best of my recollection. To this day, I can't remember which magazine, or volume for that matter and I wish I knew to go look back at it. Certain types of attacks will deal more or less damage. For instance, Raphael's normal combo isn't so strong but his finisher in that combo probably deals reasonable damage. His tackles when sprinting could possibly yield more damage than the other turtles as well. Speculation aside, it requires tests, but it stands to reason this is likely the case. "Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!" - Mrs. Frizzle I believe all the hidden stats within any beat em' up are more complex than we realize on the surface level. Some games like Streets of Rage 2, or Knights of the Round show a generalized or simplistic stat overview as bars, stars or squares on screen, the more the better. Often this showcases Power, Speed, and Stamina (HP) sometimes referred to as Vitality or Defense, and even Technique. It allows us to compare the characters to get a basic general idea when compared to one another. Deep down in the code however, there's lots of mathematics determining how many strikes from a combo take out enemy X with character Y. Finishers dealing more damage typically, jump attacks having there own value and equations. A (big) number, hidden behind the yellow health bars for ally, and enemy alike.

If it's the TMNT collection, it should operate just like the SNES version, assuming it's TMNT IV Turtles in Time, and NOT the Manhatten Project for Sega Genesis. In the Genesis (Mega Drive) version, you cannot grab an enemy to throw at the screen. Be a certain distance away from the enemy, then press the attack button. You can stun lock the enemy by striking once and then moving into position, then you simply press the attack button to grab and throw. If you hit down (or up?) you'll instead ground pound the enemy on either side of you. I think if you last hit down (or up?) on the D-pad or joystick, the game may remember that being the last input on the X and Y axis, so you might ground pound accidentally. If you were holding right, or left, and not up or down, the player turtle should grab and throw the enemy at the screen. If you've been using the joystick, I strongly urge you to switch to using the D-Pad (Directional Pad) instead for higher precision. Try pushing toward the enemy when attempting to throw them at the screen.

When making a video like this and having nobody else to consult or confer ideas and having certain things slip of the mind, I covered what I had come up with. In post, and in every kind of instructional video out there, there's almost always something someone missed during the process. As with anything, one could always make a "Tutorial 202" covering more things or whatever was missed before.

Back when I bought all my brothers SNES games from a pawn shop as a younger teen, I got roughly 17 games, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV was among them, I first played through the game on Normal I believe but it was later that I figured out to change the options which allowed for changing the difficulty, I practiced, got good and eventually beat the game on HARD. I've never played the arcade version but do know about it and how it's up to 4 players. I always loved those 4+ player arcade cabinets, including the X-men one that was approximately 6 players.
