Kerry James was shocked when her teenage son Harvey Dyer told her he was unable to see out of his left eye suddenly last October. After months of tests in hospitals, the family were given the devastating news that Harvey was permanently blind in his left eye, which medics put down to lack of nutrition in his diet. Harvey lives with avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) and from the age of two has only eaten crisps, chocolate, chips and apricot yoghurts. With Harvey’s eyesight in his right eye also deteriorating, he joins us today with his mum Kerry to share his story, alongside nutrition and eating disorder expert Ursula Philpot.

I think the main problem is that he was given crisps and chocolate at the age of 2! You shouldn’t have given the kid what he wanted when he was younger, kids need to have boundaries set.

lol if u dont give him what he wants hes not gonna eat anything else even if he starves thats how arfid works. forcing them other food doesnt work either and makes it worst

I bet he'd have eaten good food if he had no crisps. It's funny how people can eat anything when they get hungry.

Yes he can he can go on a fully raw diet. Parents fault they allowed it to get so far. Parents say they don't understand why but it starts of by them letting the children a bag of crisps ECT then the child has this dependency for the sugar and salt eat it becomes addictive. It's a shame but it's the parents need to change their diets and buy wholesome foods. No offence to the mother but you are what you eat .

@@sedoniadragotta8323 he has an eating disorder, its nothing to do with parenting. its a mental illness. I understand that you clearly aren't educated on this matter but please don't spread harmful messages like this as it's very problematic.

No he can't. A body is extremely resilient, but some damage is irreversible.

@@imieelizabethHe absolutely has. That should have been addressed when he was younger though. He's eating okay now... he could have before it was this bad.

@@KimVerhaaff yes, it sounds like his mum did try to get him help but doctors werent listening. ARFID is a newly recognised eating disorder so im not suprised, as Ive had it my whole life (thankfully no where near this bad) and doctors didnt know how to help as it wasnt a recognised condition at the time, and it would have been the same for him. its definitely a shame he didnt get the help he needed before it got this bad :(

Why not have him take tablet supplements. You can get tiny little ones.

He needs to eat clean tablets won't help him . He needs to eat a fully raw vegan diet 30 days then add in fish and chicken and some beef.
