How strong are teeth? Are they stronger than Jawbreaker / gobstopper candy? We are going to find out that in this educational science video where we use our 150 ton hydraulic press and our 240 ton force sensor to measure exact force that teeth can take. Don't try to bite anything hard, results on this video are not meant to be replicated and they are just for these teeth so yours might not be this strong.

Sorry for the lack of resolution on force sensor. All my smaller sensors are broken and I didn't realize that these are going to be this weak :D I think I have to buy one more sensor for sensitive things to get more accurate results. But the teeth vs. foods was the main event here and that went really well!

I wonder what the garbage men think when they pick up trash from the Hydraulic Press Channels shop. Human teeth, extruded candy snakes, exploded bowling balls, symmetrically squashed cylinders of all types, butcher knives with huge gashes in them, etc etc...

I wonder how hot the teeth are getting while you're doing this? It's clear that some things get hot when crushed - but you're not running a thermal camera while you're crushing. The results may be interesting - and would allow you to revisit some favorite crushes, like metal pipes.

I'm a dentist and this is very interesting. Just keep in mind that the teeth needs to be 'fresh' or at least stored in a way so they don't dry. Teeth that is completely dry becomes very brittle compared to the teeth in your mouth. I think that a healthy tooth inside your mouth is much stronger than the extracted teeth that you are testing in the press.

Good point! I wonder if they could contact a local dentist to get a supply of freshly extracted teeth? Or if there is some legal or health reason to prevent that maybe they could contact a local slaughter house or butcher to get a supply of fresh cow/sheep/goat teeth?

Do you have any suggestions on how to keep them moist and preserve them? Perhaps store them in milk or something? Or do they just have to be fresh? What about veneers or dental implants?

Another thing is; I seem to remember reading somewhere that Wisdomteeth are often misshapen and not nearly as strong as the other teeth in our mouthes... Which apparently is why some dentists recommend removing them, even if they come in perfectly.

Lauri speaks "Rally English." You use Finnish pronunciation for the letters and you pronounce ALL the letters. "If you don't say them, what are they there for?" Search for "kirikou learn rally english" for your introduction to Rally English.

It really depends on the time scale we measure this. In the short term, the tooth won, but give the candy some time and it will rot the tooth. Wash your teeth regularly, guys

At 1:27 minutes into the video, there is a major fault. Teeth is not fixated in the mouth. They are actually a little flexible, as they are held in place by tendons. That little flexibility gives the teeth a little room to adjust the angle and spread the force on a greater surface.

i think teeth have a lot blood vessels for keeping strength and freshness... if you remove them the from a jaw the become much weaker in a small amount of time AND they have some cushy skin ato rest on
