Question I have been thinking of switching careers to dental hygiene and going back to school. I see you were already working in the field before finishing your program. For someone who has never worked in a dental office but I do have strong customer service background and some assistant background, how do you get a job in a dental office starting off? I ask because even for dental assistant I see they want 2 years experience or in the case with with dental hygiene I see you need to have worked in a dental office as well. So my fear is never being able to find a job because I can't get my foot in the door. Any advice on how to start off?

Enjoyed your video. Good advice to never assume healthy gingiva by looks alone. I am privy to this fact but get really frustrated when the dentists that I work with don't seem to get it. They don't seem to recognize the signs of gum disease and tell the patient to keep doing what they are doing after i spent 10 minutes (before they came into the room) educating the patient on better home care, ugh! Regarding disability insurance, I never thought about it until 15 years in and found that the insurance company wouldn't insure me because I was too great of a risk- so get it before your body falls apart! The insurance company told me they could farm it out and I would have to pay $115 or more per month and this was 10 years ago.

I’m class of 2020! So I just graduated highschool but haven’t gotten a graduation yet due to the virus but I am planning on taking this career and I would love to work on kids, i love the educational part of it, building relationships with patients, the hours of working/ flexibility, i love that I would be able to make patients feel better about their smile, is it fun cleaning teeth? I want it to be something I can enjoy. I know it’s very hands on and I’m a very hands on person

Hi! Do you have group disability insurance, or individual? Every quote I ever get for individual has been so expensive, I've hesitated to get it. I couldn't believe when you said yours is only $5 a month! Would it be possible to find out what carrier you use?

Hii, i am dental therapy student from indonesia. I really like your videos and i am so curious the difference between dental hyginest and dental therapist in your country, because in indonesia i think these two doesnt have any difference so i am little confused about my position now. Can you make video about that? Thankyouu♡

A dental hygienist diagnoses gum disease and performs scaling and preventive dentistry and provides oral health advise while a therapist will do all of the above plus simple class one restorations and simple extractions and pulpotomies. Hope that helps. Ps: Do u have dental hygienist / therapist position in Indonesia? I m looking to move to Indonesia and was wondering if i ll have a career there as a dental hygienist / therapist.

@@TushaIraq89 wow thats cool! where are you from? in indonesia we have dental hygienist and therapist, maybe the differences is just in their jobdesc like your explain. But in indonesia we usually called both position as dental therapist. So we have a community called Association of oral and dental Therapist. btw, thank you very much for your explanation! I am looking forward for your experience in indonesia
