Hawaii Five-O is an American police procedural drama series produced by CBS Productions and Leonard Freeman. Set in Hawaii, the show originally aired for 12 seasons from 1968 to 1980, and continues in reruns. Jack Lord portrayed Detective Lieutenant Steve McGarrett, the head of a special state police task force which was based on an actual unit that existed under martial law in the 1940s.
The CBS television network produced Hawaii Five-O, which aired from September 20, 1968 to April 4, 1980. Currently, the program is broadcast in syndication worldwide. In the U.S., it airs on Me-TV, and via on-demand streaming media from CBS Interactive. (CBS also has uploaded every episode of this show via its KZfaq account.)
Created by Leonard Freeman, Hawaii Five-O was shot on location in Honolulu, Hawaii, and throughout the island of Oahu as well as other Hawaiian islands with occasional filming in other locales such as Los Angeles, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
The theme music composed by Morton Stevens became especially popular. Most episodes would end with McGarrett instructing his subordinate to "Book 'em, Danno", sometimes specifying a charge such as "murder one."

Here it is October 29, 2021, and I still am enjoying the opening of Hawaii Five-0. I will never stop loving everything about this original TV show. I refused to watch the new version. I tried, but I just couldn't. The original show had everything, the best theme, great actors and actresses, the best story lines, and the best villain-Wo Fat. I visited the island of Oahu four times and I loved every minute of it. I would love to go back some day.

Mort Stevens, the composer of this fantastic theme, was a man whose musical gifts were exceeded by only his kindness. When I was in college, I had the opportunity to hear Mort speak at a performance program at Walt Disney World. At the time, I was just starting to develop an interest in composition and he could not have been more supportive. After graduating, I moved to Los Angeles where he invited me to attend one of his recording sessions. Over lunch, he shared some of his experiences and thoughts about the creative process. What a special day that was. When he passed away, I was honored to receive an invitation to his memorial service, where I had a chance to share one of his letters to me with his widow. Thank you, Mort and Annie, for your warm welcome. I will forever be grateful to you both.

The more I discovered about John Joseph Patrick Ryan (Screen name Jack Lord) who played Steve McGarrett (in the original Hawaii Five O) I very much appreciate being able to watch all the series when I want. Superb theme music. fantastic scenery, lovely weather, beautiful women, great story lines. What's not to like. Jack Lord gave over a decade of his life to this series. No wonder he stayed in Hawaii when it was over. When he was fell ill (much later on in his life) it is said he liked to watch the sunset and sunrise with his wife. I like knowing that. Lovely thing to do.

SOCORRO SILVA Ot premiered on Tv in the fall of 1968 and ran for 12 years until 1980. I didn’t memorize the date because he was a relatively unknown actor who starred in a TV series about a rodeo clown called “ Stoney Burke” which had already been cancelled but was still running already filmed episodes which had not been shown on TV yet. I actually went up to him and told him how much I liked his series “Stoney Burke “ and he told me the series had already been cancelled. ( Oops!) and he was filming a pilot for a new series about the Hawaiian state Police to debut in September of 1968. Hawaii has warm weather all year round so it was probably Jan- Feb of 1968. The network bought the pilot and ordered more episodes and put it on Tv that September of 1968. In those days, all Tv shows had new and old shows “ debut in the fall and summers were always devoted to reruns episodes of the TV shows. There were no Tsing devices available to the public so, if you missed an episode, you had to wait around until “ summer rerun season” and hope you could catch the episode you missed when it originally aired. The network only did 3 months of reruns from a 9 month of episodes , so you might never see an episode you missed. In those days, we were afraid to leave the house if we wanted to see all the episodes! Lol! Many of our families couldn’t afford a TV until we were in elementary school and then only back and white TV series were available! When color TV became available, our families all rushed to be the first in the neighborhood to buy this “modern technology”.. Do you watch old black and white episodes of “ I Love Lucy”, the Andy Griffith show, etc. Those shows were not filmed in color until the early 1960s or so! We didn’t expect a lot in those “ good old days.”

@@conniecrawford5231 Connie, I loved your post. I'm basking in nostalgia. I was too young to see the series when it first started and I can't remember if I ever watched it when I got a little older. It was only a few years ago that someone had posted the whole 12 seasons, here on you tube. I binged watched most of the series, until you tube took them down. I immediately fell in love with Jack. He was so good looking. I've only seen a few episodes of Stoney Burke, but he wasn't a clown, he was a competitive rodeo rider, who was after the Golden Buckle, given to the best rider. I'm not into that show, but honestly I'll watch anything with Jack, in his early years. I find he got sickly looking in the later years of 5-0. I'm so jealous that you met him. Was he as gorgeous in person, as he was in 5-0?

@@m.e.d.7997 Beatles weren't cool but popular. They toured internationally and Elvis never even toured in Canada or Mexico....Europe and Japan. The Beatles spent their first US Capitol years after international fame as quirky boys in a boy band. That's the image in their concerts, publicity and movies. By the time the reinvented themselves, they were hippies. Elvis was still placing top 10 new hits from his movies when the Beatles were too. I like both, but on the coolness scale Elvis is higher at least in the 50s and 60s.
