@@ThatBlastedSalami It'd be great if you could cover other more significant generational upgrades in these retrospectives like soundtrack, stages, extra modes, battle options! While I prefer seeing your summary of the meta and character strengths, the earlier topics might be more exciting for general non-FGC and casual watchers.

Story time that I think all Tekken fans will appreciate, and many will share in: I started with Tekken 2. When I first played the amazing T3, learned the lore, and why my favorites -- Kaz and Jun were gone, obv Jin became my fav. And his ending with the first Devil Jin sighting was incredible. Tag came out and it ruled. Then 4 came out. I LOVE T4. Kazuya was back and that intro of him soloing the Mishima army still gives me chills. But T4 notably had no supernatural elements, until, again, you made it to the Mishima endings. And the canonical ending gave you another taste of Devil Jin. But you couldnt play him OR Devil Kaz. I didn't pick up T5 day one. I was a teen to a single mom of 3. So Tekken left my mind for a couple years. Then one day, I finally got my hands on it at a friend's, watched the epic intro, then went into character select and saw Devil Jin. I put my controller down and my jaw dropped. While I still play Kaz over DJ, very, VERY few moments in gaming ever paid off as well as that moment I first selected Devil Jin and fought my buddy's Paul.

I love how he's like, "Oh, look, Devil Jin's top 5. Shocking. Moving on." What's interesting to me about this game is how it brought back or introduced a new "version" of every character who hadn't had a canon appearance since Tekken 2, except Armor King and Kunimitsu. Wang, Bruce, Ganryu, and Baek came back, while they introduced a new Roger, a new Kazama style fighter, and a Mishima with lasers. Considering we got a new Armor King in T6, another canon Kuni was kind of overdue in a way.

Tekken 5's stages look so good. The lighting effect and the fog at Moonlight Wilderness. Or the heat wave when you fight at Burning Temple. And in the beta version I reckon the heat wave effect felt stronger. The early trailers and demo videos left a strong impression on me 17 years ago.

Another thing I want to add is the fact the game was only available on PSP, and then around less than a year later it was released on ps3. This made some tournament organizers reluctant to move on to T5DR, since ps3's were expensive and the $299 model was not out yet. So in my town ppl would play T5DR at the arcades, but the bigger tournaments were played on T5.0 on ps2. Groups of players who didn't have an easy access to arcades also continued to play T5.0.

I started with Tekken since T2, but even though I never took part in competitive until TTT2 or mostly T7, I still hold T5 as my favorite, with T7 and T3 following close, such great videos these retrospectives are PS: Poor Lei never gets love outside of T3.... where is the Love for Jackie Chan???

I was really good at this game, used to grind out the ghost battles when I was about 12, I’m sure I could have won against the greats when I was in my prime.

Yeah against the CPU I got to like tekken god, so I would of won a FT3 easily against leedy or nin, back then of course

@@Guitar-Dog wow ur the exact same as me! I used to reach tekken god so easily with my mains reset after reset that i memorized many unsafe moves, punishable lows etc of all chars even though i play only a few myself as my mains. I had such high confidence that i went to my nearest high lvl tekken arcades and challenged everyone... Got beaten pretty badly the first few days just coz i didnt get used to the best player's aggressiveness with his hyper speed steve gameplay. But after a few days research and practicing counter play i managed to at least beat him regularly. Idk about the nin and leddy levels tho coz they were beasts 😂

That picture of TEKKEN 5 at an arcade made me sad. I noticed that one ticket roulette game, Fast and Furious Super Bikes. F&F the arcade game, jeopardy, and this one jump rope game in the background. I know we have a lot of options these days with home console releases but arcades will always hold a special place in my heart.
