Tekken 8 isn’t too far off anymore with a release date set in late January 2024. It won’t be long before we’re throwing haymakers in Bandai Namco’s latest King of Iron Fists arena. Short of being able to play every remaining character we’ve seen in the full roster and try out some other tertiary features, many of us assumed we’d just be waiting till launch day. To my surprise, Bandai Namco invited Shacknews out alongside others for one more chance to see what the Tekken 8 team has been cooking up. I was delighted to find the whole starting roster open to us, but we also got a shot at Tekken Ball, the game’s main story mode, and a new player-focused Arcade Quest story mode.

in the release date reveal trailer you can actually see Bryan (dressing as The Bumblebee) throwing the steel beam so there is his classic Tk7 intro as well

They have Hei’s 1+2. Two Bears with no real difference and slight few Hei recycled moves. Pretty much laziness

The bears being identical once again (and having lots of animations from T7) is what ruined the hype for me. I LOVE the bears, but they didn't need two separate slots. Not just that, but Harada lied about recycled animations and "no clones" once again.

I haven’t seen the move list for kuma or panda but I’m guessing some things like their heat moves will probably be different and maybe a few other moves might have slightly different properties. Doesn’t bother me much, this is the roster they chose to start out with so even if panda and kuma took only one slot the roster would be the same. I’m just hoping to see mah boi armor king

While that may have been the case in previous Tekkens, they did try to differentiate this this time. Kuma has a few Heihachi moves, while Panda has a few Ling inspired moves.

devs don't operate based on 'slots' lol they plan their work and time according to how easy the characters are to make. the time spent to clone kuma and change up the model and add a few new animations for panda is miniscule compared to how long it takes to add another character and their new moves. if your favorite character isn't in the game it's because of how time was allocated, not because of 2 'slots'
