As someone completely new to fighting games, the decision to make it so that everything below warrior doesn't get demoted seems really strange. I'm shit, yet the game keeps promoting me just because of a few lucky wins. I should be staying in the bottom ranks because that's where my skill level's at, isn't that how ranks are supposed to work?

In Tekken 7 it was so hard to got into the blue ranks. All blue ranks players in T7 know their fundamentals. In T8 most of the players in blue ranks don't care about their fundementals. They play very agressive and walk into many counters.

What do you expect, you don’t have to start over if you’re demo’d, busted characters were unchecked for months and you’re allowed to use heat and rage in the same round. Forcing the rematch ain’t the issue, you were allowed to farm in t7 and it wasn’t this bad. If they reset my rank when they have more pressing things to fix, I wouldn’t play as much if at all again. Going thru that pluggers paradise again ain’t it.

the thing is the player base grew a lot. T7 used to get something like 7k players if im not mistaken and now t8 scores anything around 30k+. a lot of new players. the community was closed back then most people knew each other and everyone was familiar with the game. now with the amount of beginner friendly mechanics in the game and the massive player count jump most veterans are way higher than where they used to be.

I really feel the rank inflation a lot. Tekken 8 is my first tekken and after the initial getting used to the game i was pretty consistently in Garyu, sometimes even dropping back to Orange. Then i took a longer break of 5-6 weeks and suddenly i breeze through red ranks in a few days and get to mighty ruler.

So you made a good point in the video. The ranking system in theory is positive overall with the exception of the bo3 format being dispensible (should force the entire set so no cherry picking). The idea makes sense. Bandai namco clearly wants new players to feel accessible in the ranking system. This means that new players should NOT feel like its impossible to climb. Old tekken ranking system gate kept ranks very hard. It took several years for non tournament level players to get out of orange ranks. Pushing players to at least yellow ranks motivates players and removes initial anxiety when starting ranks for the first time. Having the ability to promote after a demotion makes it less scary to play rank when you are in the borderline demotion. All positive change objectively. However the three issues I see are: 1. Cherry picking matches and plugging 2. Gaining points from two or three ranks below for winning streak bonus 3. Not enough "competitive" ranks. The true ranking experience starts at blue ranks thanks to the point system. This legit means there are only 9 ranks that feel "competitive" (a good indicator of skill). That is NOT enough ranks to properly classify skill for good players. To summarize the ranking system is positive for newcomers (they still feel challenge but rank improvements feel "doable") but are negative impacts for high level players. I would like to see an additional rank similar to "challenger/master rank" in league of legends where top players can properly assess their skills in that tier. This one rank should NOT be as assessible as other ranks.

Around a month ago i climbed to Fujin only losing 4 games in Purple, winning 41 out of 45. Now I've not benefited from the lack of punishment from demoted as I've haven't been demoted yet, my 1st thought was that was very easy. But to be fair in 7 i didn't play ranked much got Seiryu on PS4 and Xbox, Genbu on PC but dropped the PC version as people were rage quitting me every 2 games by the time I hit Orange. Never struggled that much and was having an easy time in reds. So I don't know whether I'd be a purple or blue if i had not dropped the game. Either way I was very surprised to get Fujin so easily, it does feel like the level has gone down, but at the same time I don't want a reset. Just change some perimeters make it so you can demote at any rank past 1st Dan and have some proper punishment for the demotions and those that are too high will start to tumble backwards.

I've been saying this for a while. There are blue ranks that do some of the most punishable, braindead crap I've ever seen. I'll sit in complete shock when one tries to mash armor when I'm +15. It's mind numbing

I used a charater yesterday that was Eliminator and they matched me up against a Busin. Until they stop matching according to Tekken Prowess , Rank matching will be broken.

The moment you touch Tekken King, You start playing top players. I get max rank match ups daily.

Before doing a soft reset, and tbh I don’t think it’ll happen in year 1. First we have characters that are waaay too overtuned, so make changes to that. Make changes to the actual elo system. Observe and see how it affects the game. Then maybe change the FT2 rules. If all of these fail. Then I think a soft reset is in order. We al know that some of the in game fighters have better tools than others. Because after this latest patch all I’ve seen online are Law, Jin, and Feng. Players are obviously changing with whatever the current meta is

Not true you do get a negative point bigger when you get to blue ranks

Hmm, if it is done by random sampling data can be a bit biased. Anyways rank inflation is not much of a problem in Asian or Middle East servers. People are stronger for same color compared to what was in T7 with exception of a few characters or ranks before warrior.

I legit was looking at the video and I can't believe you completely skipped over something critical. The power system. I am a Tekken Emperor player I have around 240k pp all I fight are Tekken God, Emperor , supreme and God of Destructions on alts. The matches are sweaty try hard every single match I was curious what would happen if I was a Fujin again I surrendered every single match till I fell down took a few alot of time. However I never faught people at the Fujin rank because they're power was to low. I'm still fighting the exact same people at lower ranks . I then made a brand new account where I essentially slaughtered every single player till Fujin. Fighting people at Fujin they where around 190k averagely meeting opponents even up to Kishin range completely free. The power rank matters way more than the actual rank.

the point gain and loss amount is just stupid, I don't fundamentally disagree with rank differences higher than 2 or 3 giving and costing less, but if I'm losing to a higher ranked player I should lose less than if I lose to a lower ranked player, and if I beat them I should gain more. this and normalizing point gains in general should be enough to make it a normal ranked system much like elo in chess and other games. but we could also change it so if I'm matched with a way higher ranked player and I beat them I gain massive amounts of points and they lose a ton as well, you could argue if people want to mess around they should go to player matches ( why no infinite rematches there either?? ) or lobbies. ranked is for ranked and let the experience be actually competitive with people getting what they deserve. Forcing Sets is something I generally want as well. but we could also let them not continue if both players agree not to. If you leave the set you lose points equal to as if you'd lost the remaining games, if you really have something to do then those point losses don't matter, they only matter if you keep cherry picking or some other niche cases. It's supposed to be competitive, how is 1 game going to show anything? very little chance to adapt, maybe I did just win based on luck or other reasons, same reasons why any game tournaments you look it's not a ft1 another issue is prowess matchmaking, I understand that they want to match 'smurfs' against other 'smurfs' but if my alt character's rank is already lower then I'm also expected to perform worse, let me play players of those ranks until I get to the rank I deserve with that character as well, what the hell is the point of the rank system then?

They need to do what SF6 did. Have the main ranks be easy to climb to keep more casual/newer players engaged, Then in Tekken God have a real elo system for the more serious players.

It’s a standard bell curve, this distribution looks normal…. But i do think best of 3 needs to be enforced and plugging needs to be punished.

Teh nyou mix in prowess and this gets even worse. Some playing on easy mode while others are playing on hard mode, no in between.

They need to make the ranks more strict. Go back to the old days where you could get demoted even in Green Ranks.

Tekken King is the new Fujin

There has been a noticeable drop in player quality in tekken king through tekken god, tbh. I got emperor like a month ago, stopped playing the game because ranked was cancer, and I logged back on to see how things were and the players populating tekken emperor and tekken king are dogshit. tekken god took less than an hour. every time I look at blue rank streams its the same thing, the player quality is significantly less than it was in tekken 7 blue. purple all the way to raijin looks like AI bots fighting each other. kinda tragic to see them go in this direction, there's no competitive integrity in the game whatsoever

Basically, unless you are in the top ranks, (Tekken King upwards) your rank means nothing in this system. That is really bad. I hope the Tekken team looks at this data and makes some adjustments. I don't even play ranked, but it's not a good look if your competitive system in your fighting game sucks. I hope they will fix it.

I rematch everyone so that when I do get passed battle ruler cause iv been stuck here for a bit I will have realy earned it

You didnt talk about the major ranked problem. If you beat or get beat someone with an higher rank you are not rewarded or forgiven. Like if you are bushin and u get destroyed by tekken emperor there is no compensation, you were just unlucky, and if u win, nobody care

The online component of this game is horrible. Some times i have to wait 15-20 minutes to find a game in rank. There is a lot of lag issues so im contantly having input problems where the wrong move comes out accidently. Pluggers are not punished so i waste all this time playing them and waiting 15 minutes more to find another player. In rank i get matched with the same higher ranked opponent 3 times in a row, lose all 3 and get demoted. Honestly the netcode and online experience is way better in street fighter 6 and even killer instinct

I remember most ppl in T7 green ranks had over 200 wins. Reaching Vanquisher in that game was truly the equivalent to reaching Fujin in T8. The power level has changed drastically.

What you're saying @ around 05:00 is top garbage. There's no way of knowing for certain that you'll be able to beat someone when you yourself are at a low rank, say, blue rank or below. You don't have the neccessary knowledge to be superior to throw away first match to farm points by winning the next two. Also, you never know when people will be 'one and done' and not rematching. I've had people not rematch me even after THEY win. So that system of farming or exploiting points as yo mention it is not possioble or existing. This is just a theoretical bullsh!t alot of youtubers are saying and I've never seen it happening.

I think this system is perfect , it separates the scrubs that lie to themselves and think they are good and use childish tactics to gain points , but once you get to fujin+ they will quit because people already ran into enough scrubs in the Ruler ranks. Just play to get good , rank for experience against scrub tactics. With enough dicipline you will reach a lvl you never though you could

The rank system definitely sucks. I'm at purple lv.3 and everytime I'm close to blue, someone unplug or a high rank beat me, and I lose so many points. And I need to win 3 matches or to catch back up from 1 lost.🤦🏾‍♂️ My fight data for rank is 52% win rate. I only use Leroy... ✊🏾🙌🏾🧘🏾‍♂️🔥🦸🏾‍♂️💜

I barely even touch ranked anymore because once I got to Fujin I started seeing the same 3 or 4 characters, and its just not fun to fight characters who just lock you down with plus frames and have perfect mixups. My ranked win rate is still like 78% and with Steve too, so I know I can definitely climb to Bushin or higher if I wanted to. Just not having fun fighting the same people.

your absolutely correct I dont consider myself that good at the game but when the game first came out in Feb fighting Ganryu and Shinryu ranks felt like the real deal now FF 3 months later fighting ppl all the way to Battle Ruler for me doesnt feel that difficult even when I took a 2 month hiatus from the game only blue ranks start giving me trouble as a casual of the game

If you accept the rematch, you should be forced to finished the set. If you dont want to finish the set, don't rematch at all.

All of you ppl comparing T7 ranks with T8 have totally skewed perspectives because you're comparing a new game with late stage T7. TMM made a few statistical breakdowns throughout T7's full timeline. I looked at his video from 3 months into the game. We're now almost 4 months into T8. Green ranks were actually the top 17%. Blue ranks are right now pretty much equivalent to green ranks back then. But if I remember correctly they adjusted the system with S2, which increased the inflation significantly. I was a T7 S1 Green rank player, eventually reaching yellow, but that was towards the end of S1. The green ranks would usually be decent at identifying and countering highs and lows from strings, as well as frame gaps in your strings. I definately noticed this as Hwoarang. They would also blind break throws effectively. I found normal grabs to be useless, and even with other grabs, many would start to catch on if you kept abusing them. They would always do proper combos, maybe not the ideal ones and wall conversions were hit or miss. Punishing was ok. They would usually know launch punishable stuffs, but other punishing was inconsistent. Sidestepping was inconsistent. With some characters you could reach the top green rank without necessarily having all of these tools up to par, but for standard characters like any Mishima or Lee, it was a requirement. In T8 they did shift up and squeeze together the ranks, changing the lowest true rank from I think 1st dan to Cavalry. They also decreased the amount of ranks per color. But in my experience, each rank feels larger. That is probably the only thing I like more about T8's system. In T7 I would jojo between ranks, often dropping 2 ranks. In T8 I have never dropped two ranks. It's clear that they're approaching T8 ranked very shortsighted. The prowess change just confirmed this. They care more about the non veteran players getting positive feedback from the game, than they care about the integrity of the ranking system. Rather than being stuck in light blue and green, they have now spread us out from yellow to blue. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as long as they can stop the inflation, which I'm sceptical that they will, but if you look beyond blue you see that there's only 5 ranks left. The veterans are supposed to share all of those ranks. That's insane. And this game isn't even half a year old. It will look much worse a year after release. I think it will be necessary for them to create a separate league to isolate everybody who have reached the top rank.

They should reset ranks and have qualifying every season like in other games See if ur still good or if ur rusty gives other a chance to rank up and play the higher rank next season as well .and possibly help balance idk

To get to tekken king was a nightmare, had to go on a bunch of winstreaks back to back just to lose to a dragunov THAT BARELY KNEW THE GAME. Really infuriating. Half of your health gone just from blocking, plus plus plus plus plus frames, to 50/50 to panick move armor. The aggression and heat system is very annoying.

The biggest problem in tekken 8 is heat without a doubt theres way too much benefit from using it very little if any downside. Once the players that spammed their way to the ruler ranks they get checked by someone who labs then never play ranked again
