The TEKKEN franchise is one with plenty of ups and plenty of downs! And Today on the channel I plan to look back at everything from its humble beginnings as nothing more than a tech demo into what it has become today.... the technical man's 3D Fighter!
Being known mostly for its Playstation roots, this series has become a household name for anyone that fancies something a little more pick up and play.

Eddy was a reason i started capoeira, Hworang was a reason i started practicing taekwondo and Heihachi why i threw my son into volcano :) (that WAS a joke!) Harada said it himself that Tekken X Street Fighter is definitely not canceled. He confirmed it on Twitter. And I quote, "Not in my first language to be very difficult and very labor intensive. I'm sure my interviews have given some misunderstandings, at least nearly half of them so far. I'm prepared for some misunderstandings, but I want everyone to know that there are many cases like this. We are still hopeful that TKxSF will resume development when the opportunity arises. However, such a title cannot be moved just for the convenience of one company in terms of marketing and branding, and it also affects each other’s development resources." I'm still hopeful for the day to arrive when it finally releases😁

This series.. love the characters, but dang does that music lives in my soul, and mind. There is something that cannot be described when the gameplay and music take you to another level. With each entry, the music went harder. It is an awesome series, past and present. Plus the visuals, designs, and world building were amazing. But dang when they did that teaser, Jin practicing, the sweat beading all over, the flow of movement, and light displaying tone on his body, it was surreal we were going to this level of character design. The Tekken team pushed so many creative ideas, inspired by, or influenced too. Thanks for this

I know Tekken 4 is considered the black sheep of the series by many, but it’s actually my favorite installment. I worked at a GameStop in a mall from late 2000 to early 2003, and I played the hell out of Tekken 4 in the mall’s arcade for well over a year. The competitive scene was quite decent for the game and I have great memories of pulling off certain juggles and parries and such with crowds of 10-15 people looking on. I really liked the additions of the wall jump and low parry. Xiaoyu was my main, with Jin being my number 2. I loved Jin’s design and move set. Soul Calibur II came along at some point in 2002 I believe, and I started playing it much more than Tekken 4, but Tekken 4 is still my favorite 3D fighting game experience, if only due to nostalgia and great memories.

Its now or never with Tekken 7 and SF 5 on their way out and the next main games not yet announced. Namco should go full crunch mode on Tekken X SF now (while Capcom could and should do another Capcom vs. SNK). Sadly they want to play it safe and just get out the next main installments.

Great video. I had the first 3 Tekken games on Playstation and played the first game in an arcade in Spain prior to owning a Playstation at all when I was still rinsing my trusty Megadrive. I feel the same way that number 3 was the real ground breaker in the series and stood out as an amazing title of the era. I was touched by your anecdote about your history with Tekken Tag and your family bless you man. I never owned a playstation 2 but as I had some good pedigree playing Tekken games I would enjoy going to friend's houses who owned the system and kicking there arse on theirs :o) For me, Tekken Tag team had the all time best Tekken mini game in the ten pin bowiling. I remember it took me ages to get a perfect score but then the best character to use wasn't immediately obvious. After that I played most of the main games that came out in the series but not to the same degree and I would say they were alright in their own way but not inspring like 3 and Tag Team had been before. I must say that the loading time on Tekken 6 was way quicker on the Xbox 360 than on the PS3. I played it on both systems and it was a nightmare on PS3, especially when we played team battles with the maximum team size. I mean the loading time between all those rounds felt like waiting for each quarter to load while playing NBA Jam Extreme on my orginal Playstation back in the day! Tekken 7 definitely has got that classic Tekken feel from what I've played of it since it came out and after watching this I may download on my Xbox One X tomorrow. I think it may be on the game pass ting these days. This is one of my favourite complete history videos that you have put out so far and through the years I was more of a side scrolling urban brawler gamer, growing up reveering the many great capcom titles in the arcades and the Sega Megadrive classic Streets Of Rage on the console side of things. Tekken is THE 1 on 1 beat-em-up series that I have played most consistantly throughout my gaming life and it is the one that I was most adept at playing as well. I have a lot of good memories connected to it over the years that's for sure. Thanks again for making this video and I can only offer you my apologies for the overly long comment if you managed to read all of this.. tis a bit wordy for sure! Have a great and festive weekend geezer! ... Peace Out

you know what can of worms you opened by doing a Complete history of Tekken... now you have to do one on Virtua Fighter, Dead or Alive, Soul Calibur... Battle Arena Toshinden (well maybe not that last one). Great stuff Daniel... as always.

I guess that's why the very recent titles has less content and a dump load of DLC. Tekken 6 was the peak of content and being a game.

So many characters being obtained only by DLC also irked me, and that's with my preferred character (Noctis) being DLC. Also, nearly inevitably, new characters would be over-powered and weeks would go by before the issue was rectified. I had fallen to the wayside of playing Tekken but I watched my sibling have to deal with these issues frequently. Also, Tekken 6 is where he fell in love with playing as Lars, but Lars was nerfed to the point of also needing to be corrected in Tekken 7. I'm not a massive fighting game fan as-is and I just grew exhausted at seeing so many updates and fixes. I still like the game even if I don't play it (maybe one day I'll find the courage to take myself online once more...have only done so three times and lost two of three fights, lol), but Tekken has gone quite beyond being accessible for the average joe, unless you have the patience to deal with these constant changes and fighting against a hige hoarde of characters you might not have because you couldn't afford them. Noctis was our one and only DLC.

I still think Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection for the PS3 is the most intense and balanced game of the franchise, one very big reason to emulate in rpcs3 since getting a PS3 is rather pointless now, but their games have aged like a very fine wine, specially Dark Resurrection & Wipeout HD Fury, my top reasons to build a high-end gaming system to enjoy said games whenever I want without PSN account issues or net issues, you can play it over parsec and it plays wonderful, sadly emulation is still in a gray area and piracy still an issue, this is only way to play proper Tekken 5 DR online now. Amazing video!

7 wasn't that bad, is 4 and 6 the ones I kind of despise... specially 4 which changed the controls for the worse, I just hate that 7 has all the rest of the characters behind a paywall.

Tekken is the over all greatest fighting series of all time! The intros are incredible (particularly 2, Tag and 4), and the soundtracks are always addicting! The story is insane but I couldn't love it anymore than I do! Tekken is also the reason I asked for my first console (PS1) and many to follow!

Back in the early 2000’s when tekken tag came out, Sony or some subsidiary game company manufactures a prototype motion fight simulator that detects you punches, kicks and knees and transfer your skill rating and pinch speed to the game. In ten years or less tekken is probably gonna be processing estimate data on what type of fighter or whom type of fighter would win. Similar to the processing AI data used to match up and play against chess opponents.

If you pre-ordered Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection on PSP at GameStop, you got that D-pad overlay which helped a lot but you also got a wrist strap with a Tekken charm on the end of it. Wish I still had that stuff. I also almost bought Death by Degrees only cause I was a huge Tekken mark but I'm glad I didn't. In Tekken 5 you could play Tekken 1, Tekken 2 and Tekken 3 arcade modes in their entirety. That was badass and a feature nobody talks about. I haven't tried any of the games after Tekken 6 (It soured the series for me) but do any of the later titles reintroduce this feature? Tekken 7 should have come with a bundle including all of the past main titles.

Tekken 7 is the first game in the series to really break some of the basic fundamentals of the series like Team Battle, Survival, etc. in favor of a less-than-stellar story mode that feels like a filler arc. Without having anyone to play with, Tekken 7 has nothing going for it and feels like the worst game in the franchise even if the gameplay is the best the series has ever seen.

Tekken 6 is the best, or TTT2. Tekken 6 because you also have the coop scrolling beat-em-up Tekken force mode as well as the main mode. TTT2 because you have the tag feature. Tekken 7 misses both of these features and add modern day bullshit, DLC and then adding characters from other games which sadly breaks the Universe and just seems gimmicky and stupid. Why is Akuma or some guy from Final Fantasy 15 in the game? And removing endings for each character, one of the core features since Tekken 1. I also don't like Tekken 7.

TTT is also my favorite, me and my dad played the hell out of that game, we unlocked everything, it took us so long, i think we had more fun with the bowling mini game than any other mode. protip play bowling with one of the cyborg chars, and you get an aiming computer to help you get better rolls.
