It's nice to see it thoroughly analyzed since I've heard better from all the VAs in this (which I honestly think was due to lack of good voice direction since I theorize a lot of voice directors steered clear of this one due to KNOWING it was not meant for American children.) If you're turned off of Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon, try Slayers. It's fully uncut, funny, and has great voice work.

here is a gut feeling I have: 4Kids, are middle schoolers and high schoolers, who did NOT even do college, even the first semester. One thing I do like about the beginning of the anime is that it shows a civilian ship. We don't see many of those. With the one Piece world consisting of so many islands with specific weather and resources shipping would be a tremendous driver of the economy.

It's strange to think about Luffy living with Ace and Sabo inside of Dan Dan's house, Sabo running away from the nobles, and Sabo's supposed "death" by the divine dragons happened shortly before these episodes.

Luffy was much more blunt and kind of a bully sometimes, especially in the early days. Also... in the 4K dub... Luffy sounds a lot more feminine than he really should. I know his VA's are women, but this particular one is very soft and kind of girlish. Also... *epic cringe inbound.*
