Around 1974, as a Junior at Sunset High School near the Tex plants, a buddy and I would often to go the "Tex Country Sore" to buy surplus tools, circuit boards, wire, all kinds of stuff. One day we spotted a CRT tester rack for 5" tubes. I think it held about 8 side by side. We talked some customer into giving us a ride home in the back of his pick up. My buddy and I then nearly electrocuted ourselves trying to figure it all out - as you can imagine very HV. We finally dismantled it into parts for other projects. Loads of life threatening fun.

Very interesting video. I learned on a Tektronix 454 Oscilloscope working in Ground Radio in the US Air Force. I am retired now and have a Tektronix TBS 1052B-EDU and a Tektronix MDO3024 Oscilloscope/Spectrum Analyzer. They are both great devices.

Digital is fine. Though my analog crt scope has served me faithfully for many years. They will have to pull it from my dead cold hands.

Tek CRTs were amazing. In the mid 1970s, Tek decided they wanted to expand the Irvine CA field office with a night shift, and went to the local junior college that I was attending at the time to mass-interview 8 students in the electronics program, myself included. They hired 7 of us, and I worked swing shift fixing all manner of Tek gear for about 4 years until I decided I wanted to get into design but didn't want to move to Beaverton. It was a great place to work, great people, and great products, and all the repair techs had all the best equipment you could have for doing their job. And the field offices had significant parts departments so repairs didn't stall too much waiting for parts deliveries. It was a surprise when I later worked for other companies and found that having all the right parts and equipment for doing your job was a rarity. They had a profit-share program at the time as well. And I remember they did a salary survey at one point, decided some of the techs were underpaid, and I got a significant increase at that point-- something like 20% in order to catch up with the rest of the industry. I've never seen that happen anywhere else. Those were the days...

Is there a date this documentary was created. It seems to be late 90's to early 2000's possibly?

It says Copyright Tektronix Inc.1996 in the beginning.

I'd quite like an OLED oscilloscope now i think about it

Why don't they just use a TFT or IPS panel, duh. edit 100% of you don't understand sarcasm

Cause NuColor is where it's at! NuColor is a really interesting technology and I kinda wish that they had continued to expand on it rather than going with straight LCD. They are great digital displays that really deserve a second look for small high resolution devices where color accuracy and size isn't as big of a deal.
