A tour of the telecine section of the Ripponlea studios of the A.B.C (ABV2) on the last day of operation. Head of section Peter Henshaw gives a rundown of equipment and operation of Rank Cintel machine and color grading and other equipment. Runs a double system film through as a demonstration. Shot on SP but until i can find a machine to transfer it this VHS dub will have to do. Better quality copy of original SP tape here.

A quite nostalgic look at Telecine at ABV2. Sadly, Peter Henshaw passed away quite prematurely, not too many years after this was shot. I worked at ABV2 during the 60s, and at that time, Peter was the ace camera crane driver. Later, my wife worked in the Telecine department and eventually moved out when the character generators were shifted to another location in the building.

The long use of telecine at some Australian outpost TV stations may be the reason why many of the once thought lost BBC programs have turned up preserved on film. As opposed to the BBC and other TV companies attraction to wiping older programs on videotapes for re use. \What else is still to be discovered on film archives or similar?

I operated TK machines back in the 1980s at BBC TVC and the setup looked almost identical.

14:57 Maxell L-750 Beta tape, could be for video or PCM digital audio. 17:35 That's the very model of DAT recorder I have here, Sony PCM-7040.

Did I miss what they used that Amiga 1200 for?

I think is part of the mixing console and the Amiga controls some features. A similar outfit was used in a local station in my country that was established in the early 90s. At 06:10 speaks about the of the Amiga.

Instead of color and exposure balancing on the run like when a news film went direct to air if you had time for a premium program you could use the Amiga. You would punch in the time code and do any changes in stages so when the film was replayed to tape pre programed changes were made and you would get a much better result with out the mistakes and hunting if it was done live. They had an earlier version that required putting metal tags on the film at each scene change that took a lot of time.

Do you have any seven news openers from the 90's or 2000's?
