the greatest solo ever

First heard Dire Straits in the late 70's on the radio, playing Sultan of Swing. My first reaction was who the hell is playing the Guitar, when the DJ said who it was I had no option to go out and buy their CD. Since then bout all their CD's and Videos. Seen them live on several occasions, 1985 took my 12 year Son to one of their concerts, he like me has been a big fan.

An example of the truly great music 'from the past' though, to me, it still sounds fabulous--a thousand times better than what passes for music today. Really!

Knopfler is so brilliant-- lots of subtle stuff in his songs one may not immediately notice. Since I never tire of listening to DS, however, I eventually catch some of them.

This gig was in 84 but message in this song is more present than ever! It describes perfectly what we've become and specially what we're feeling with the debt crisis here in Portugal and probably a little all over Europe... just wish we (our "wasted" generation) could make it our anthem to help us stand up for our rights!

Knopfler manages to tell a story with the way he plays guitar, especially in his new music! He has epic amounts of emotion and soul... no one can make a guitar sound the way he does! Just wish I was one of the lucky few to have seen the Alchemy live tour!! Only seen Mark Knopfler live in SouthAfrica once
