In this video I explain one of the common mistakes that Telemark skiers can make when turning - dragging their leg behind them. It's easy to fix and I've created this One Hot Minute to help you make some improvements.
One of the most important parts of making a Telemark turn is having good pressure on the ball of your foot on the uphill ski (the one you are dropping a knee with). A good turn always starts with a good Telemark stance that includes: good distance between your feet, body centered over your skis, and moving at a speed that you are comfortable with and a speed that allows you to make minor adjustments.
This One Hot Minute also helps you begin to understand the dynamic nature of the Telemark stance so you can better manage terrain and the variants on the mountain like snow conditions, bumps, etc.

Loving this One Hot Minute. I’ve always found it helpful to think about stepping forward (“a boot width”) into a shallow lunge… which implies weighting and stepping off the inside ski… which helps keep the fight tight. This approach helps setup ready for carving from turn to turn as riders progress. All the best for the rest of the northern hemisphere season

Good to see a vid addressing one of most common mistakes. The tele turn on modern gear is NOT a lunge. It's a curtsy. Your ski pressure should be close to 50/50. Crush that uphill ski/tighten up!

The boot width between the front heel and rear toe was the most important and actionable tip here for me, thank you!

I’m day 2 into telemarking and keeping things tight is crucial. Day 1 was loaded with crashes as that back leg was too far back and would drift and cross at higher speeds.

Nice! Getting older and keeping the trailing leg from getting lazy is something I encounter more...I'll try those practice drills next time out.

Yes you want to keep your center of mass over your feet. Telemark has more even weight distribution on both feet and more dynamic foot to foot balancing. If you’re center of mass isn’t over your feet it will hinder our ability to be dynamic.

I wanted to get into telemark skiing, The only back country-ish/twin tip Ski I currently own is the new line chronic 94 Is it worth mounting a telemark binding on it, or should I buy a different pair of skis?
@FreeheelLife
@FreeheelLife 6 ай бұрын
Right on! I always recommend putting more money into the boot and binding choice and simply using the skis you have. The Chronics will work great for starting out. I would recommend doing a more directional mount at first, meaning don't necessarily mount them for switch riding with a center-mount. Hope that helps and let me know how it goes. Cheers - Madsen
