Original Interview with Rupert Sheldrake, made for the production "The power of thoughts" („Die Macht der Gedanken“): www.gedanken-film.at
Contents:
00:08 What do you think indicates that thoughts actually go beyond our brains?
02:04 Can you tell us about some of the most important experiments you’ve done and the results you’ve got?
04:28 It’s not just people, there’s also animals because you’ve done a lot of work with animals as well?
06:05 What do you think is the nature of thoughts? What’s the sense of them?
09:10 Have you observed any principles by which thoughts work? Does for instance distance make a difference or the emotions we attach to our thoughts?
10:37 What do you think is the basis for this?
12:04 Assuming that our thoughts are not just limited to our brains and our own bodies, what do you think are the implications for our lives and for our worldview?
15:40 Can you tell us a little bit about the content of your book?
18:15 I was fascinated to read how this materialistic view dominates almost every field of society.
20:09 One of the things you mentioned is the placebo effect.
22:16 What are you working at at the moment and what are the kind of questions you’re trying to solve?

Just realized what's so captivating about watching Rupert speak--apart from how clear, cogent and organized (and interesting) his thoughts are, there's an utter lack of normal eye accessing cues; most folks look up to the left or right, or down to the left or right when they're retrieving their ideas--he just looks squarely straight ahead as this amazing information pours out...

i noticed this as well. i can't exactly remember where I saw it before, but I have seen it multiple times, particularly in people who are somewhat older, and very learned. Richard Dawkins sometimes does this. Also David Attenborough I think. I used to wonder why they did it, and then I realised that it's simply because they have said this information so many times before, and know what they are talking about so well, that they barely need to acces memory and information from their brain. it is already all there. Think about if someone asked you to explain who their parents were, and their names. Most people would have no trouble at all in saying this without looking around. You don't need to because the information is right there and has been used so many times that it is not necessary to retrieve it (and therefore look around). I hope this helped!

Many prefer not to discuss such things primarily for social concerns. ALSO, deep, clear thought might necessitate an alteration of a libg-held, and therefore, very comfortable belief system. Many refuse to change a belief even in the face of exceptional reason to do so.

fantastic interview. Might this explain why really great music, art and writing is mostly intuited and inspired rather than worked out by/in the brain? Not to detract from great works, but musicians, artists or writers, in working hard in their respective fields, immerse themselves somehow in a field of higher knowledge/consciousness, insight or inspiration. Imagine how research into these ideas would enrich science and lead us to a deeper understanding of our true nature as energy, attached to a physical body. A virtual domain where a spiritual-energetic worldview and quantum-scientific worldview come together, is somehow more relevant and exciting that mechanistic explanations for material questions which don't explain the more interesting questions of meaning, consciousness, duality, and existence/purpose

Thank you for such an interesting interview, very well explained. I'm nearing the end of the fascinating book mentioned, (The Science Delusion) and have also read The Sense of Being Stared At, also very interesting. I have been interested in the subjects discussed for many years and, like many people, I have experienced telepathy, precognition and most of the things mentioned in these mind expanding books. I have always wondered if it is a natural survival instinct in all of us, as that feels right to me. Thank you for explaining it in a way we can all understand. I look forward to learning more on this fascinating subject. (Chrissy U.K.)

I have seen a video of an Aikido master who had his students try to stab him from behind with a practice sword and he moves out of the way just before the person strikes the look on my students' face is hilarious! Feeling his intention to strike and moving out of the way but the intention has already been sent and so they cannot retract their movement though they are striking left while the master steps right a hair before. Feeling the strike you realize you have one mind so you wonder who Is really initiating the strike. Grand Master Morehei Ueshiba founder of Aikido said he told the attacker where to strike with his eyes. Last time I did this the attacker tried to hit me but felt his hands being pushed away by some force. I could hear his thoughts audibly and being trained when he thought kick I raised my leg. So to his point of view I was cutting off his movement before he moved. It scared him so bad he left and never came back. But I stopped after I was able to point at three people across a room and have them fall down. And I don't give a rip if anyone believes me.

Love Rupert's work. I was just thinking this afternoon that the psychic functions are not a result of "higher" consciousness, but of "lower" consciousness. Just like he's saying, from the Social Animal Mental System. It's not necessarily "Spiritual" unless you recognize animals as being Spiritual. And that forces us to redefine that word. Dear Camera Person: Whoa! Back up! Little over-zealous on the close-ups, there! LOL Live and learn...

I'm very interested in what Rupert Sheldrake has to say, but coincidence aka blind chance is a factor which must be taken into account during experiments. Cannot blame science for it, any more than you can blame science for Gravity: but people like you probably dont believe in that either. But if some people want to argue that (for example) the Big Bang is a big lie they should be able to do so without ridicule and censorship, as long as they provide evidence and data to support their views.

Sheldrake observations, which we all are aware of, take us to where science is denialist, the Book of Genesis when man was created. It is also by attention and intention that that we would be able to have dominion and subdue. What we observe are traces of what we were to be when we fell and is corruptible.

Energetic beings of light and intentions. Us, the universe, everything. I'm quite interested in working with you on something that is designed to change our perspective on the universe. It began as a thought experiment that became an art project that has now become a multispectral way of seeing. I'm fascinated by your perspective and your application of hard science to the metaphysical. Because after all, it's not really two fundamental sides is it? We thrive. Universally. We. The message is ready for dissemination. I am consciously choosing the team that's going to convey it.. Care to get involved?

Why are people always insisting consciousness starts from our brain? Does the world wide web start from our private computer? What shows on the screen of a computer is a small part of the information the www consists of. Likewise, what shows in your awareness, or your mind, if you will, is a small part of the information infinite consciousness consists of. The world wide web is such a insightful metaphor and symbol but we keep talking about a field our sorry little brains supposedly would produce. As if a match could produce the light of the sun

They have changed my thought pattern and I'm scared to the point I might lose myself. They have made me build a contradictory personality giving rise to a repressed speech of sexual desire.the more I fight them I find that I make bad thought habits/patterns.

simply because "telephone telepathy" is a confirmed observation does NOT automatically confirm the existence of telepathy. for instance, family and close friends will frequently have each other in mind and then the phone rings.....OR events in the news media viewed by two people miles apart that are or were close friends may spark the same thought if the news subject pertains to both people thus reminding them that they have not heard from each other in a while, then the phone rings. we should always rule out the more obvious and logical before jumping to the supernatural no matter how sexy that would be.....honestly I would love it if telepathy were real but I won't be convinced until randomized, highly statistically significant, double blind peer reviewed trials are done.

The problem is rarely absence of evidence or conclusive data. The problem is rather the politics in academia: research grants, careers and egos of self proclaimed "experts" determine what's "scientific fact" and what not. History has shown many times that these things are hardly changing. BTW: there isn't such a thing as "supernatural", only natural. Imagine you'd show an iPhone to somebody 200 years ago... Many phenomena are real but simply not understood with the existing paradigm.

I believe we contemplate on life in order to bring ourselves into a better state of being. That is, we like to ponder on the meaning of existence to make it comfortable for ourselves, and I see nothing wrong with this. The 'purpose' of it is itself, like the reason we listen to music or play games. While there are underlying benefits to most if not all activities that are fun, the reason we do them is only for the fun. Now what is fun for? This is a philosophical matter, because it could be argued that we do things that are fun to aid our survival and progression, which is what I mean when I say underlying benefits, but since that is more of an unconscious result and we have fun just because we can it is rather irrelevant in regards to this topic. I also think a lot of it is to ease the minds of others. Since our minds may be interconnected it would make sense for us to have questions pop up that need answering because it is rather like somebody asking you about it in person. So here's an example. I may sit at home and think about why war exists, ponder an answer and let it go. That could have been somebody elses thought (the question) coming in, me answering it and upon release providing them the answer, which they would feel they came up with themselves. So essentially, we're always communicating with one another, which is why it is a great thing for all of us to contemplate on ourselves, our purpose for one another and all of those lovely juicy matters that can create such beauty and wonder for us :) I hope this made sense, it's a peculiar subject, yet completely everyday

Hello I am sorry to tell you that here in this interview there is some sort of mixed up between thoughts transmission-reception and telepathy , I know both by experiences, otherwise that would be just one more illusion or bullshit, of course . Telepathy as I lived it, it was started by the other person as I am totally unable to do so, is a real dialogue between two persons in real time, so between two brains as it is where is heard the voice, to know how it sounds like, listen to some voices using a headset but turn it on to mono listening mode not stereo, then you have it very close to what it is! and it has a specificity that the most imaginative person will not imagine, so I do not tell it, not to play with people but to avoid liars to use such fact to indoctrinate others..

My theory is that our minds share share electrons. On a molecular level electrons are able to jump from one mind to another (and I think an electron is able to exist In multiple places at the same time). When we focus our attention on someone whether it's by staring or intention we are subconsciously sending electrons to the receiving consciousness and whether or not the recipient is aware enough to listen to his or her subconscious receiving the incoming electrons varies from person to person.

If you think about the primary colors red, yellow and blue. These colors can't be created yet how is it that we can see them with our eyes. we can see the color yellow but the color yellow can not be created so how does it exist. It's the same thing with consciousness, we cannot proof how it exist but we just know that it does. of course the primary colors can create the secondary colors like purple and green. A simple question: can there be a field without a brain?

Russ Tul - Yes, of course. Brain is just a condensed part of the field, like a train station or a cloverleaf intersection of highways.

Yes and here is why and Rupert is one of the few scientists in the world today to actually write about the medical findings of the later Dr. John Lorber. Lorber found over 100 people who were born with no brains but who functioned normally. This may sound incredible to those brainwashed by Materialist Reductionism but Lorber documented the cases. Another scientist to write about Lorber's research was the polymath Gerhard Wassermann This is what he wrote in his book Shadow Matter about Lorber's research he also quotes Lorber directly enjoy: “There are large numbers of reported cases where much of the normally present ordinary matter brain is congenitally absent, although this, apparently does not affect mental functions. If, as I have assumed, mental functions are vested in the Shadow Matter brain, which could have developed normally, being guided in its development by the residual parts of the ordinary matter brain. Consistent with this J. Lorber (1981,‘The disposable Cortex, ‘ Psychology Today vol 15, p. 126) wrote": “I have now studied more than 100 people who are among the most severe hydrocephalic cases, using a CAT scan [ a computerized brain scanning technique], formal intelligence test, and detailed neurological assessments. The majority show normal physical development as well as good intelligence. Among them are several with IQs of 130 or more who are doing splendidly at school. Some of the adults have university degrees, others are members of executive committees, one is a senior nurse, and most are in gainful occupations. They hear and see well. One young man has a first-class honours degree in mathematics at a university, despite the fact that some 95% of the cranial areas that normally accommodate the hemisphere are filled with fluid. Instead of the normal 4.5cm thickness of brain tissue between the ventricles and the surface of the cerebral cortex, he has a layer measuring a millimeter or two.” I was first alerted to Lorber's research coming across this article many years ago and you can actually see using google people's brain scans who are afflicted by this condition! perdurabo10.tripod.com/themindofjamesdonahue/id1202.html

'The power of chance' would've made a more credible title. I feel truly sorry for a mind so deprived of critical thinking skills and too deeply immersed in a 'what if' mentality that it doesn't any longer distinguish between probability/plausibility and personal preferences.

"The "standard materialist" view, the dominant dogma" is a totally false presentation of science." Again Sheldrake is biased towards his loony ideas!
