shows how cross-connections are made from Station cabling over to the PBX. Using a one-pair 22 or 24 gauge copper jumper wire, we make "cross-connects" from the wire going out to the Telephone jack over to the ports (terminals or TN) on the PBX.
Office phones are plugged in to wall jacks. Those Wall jacks have a wire that runs in the wall, through the ceiling and over to a PBX room. Inside the PBX room, those cable come together on 66-blocks. Cross-connects are used to make the electrical connection from the Station wiring over to a particular port on the PBX.

You should do a tour of your complete system. I see many different KSUs there! As always, thanks for the videos!

Over 33 years I've been a telecom and data tech. I have a system for patch panel move solutions so you don't need to cross connect every working station port on your system as well as the customer can be shown how to do their own moves when bob and alice change cubes or offices.

Hey I've got a question for you. I want to swap two lines. One is analog. One is digital. I do know that at the jack for the digital line I will use the black and yellow wires instead of the red and green. I took care of that and then swapped both at the blocks. What I ended up doing was actually swapping the extensions. So I went back and returned the wires on the block to where they were. This is what I had. Ext. 252 - analog Ext. 218 - digital I want them switched. So I took each set of wires and just swapped them where they toned out. I've only done this a few times before and it worked out fine. Only thing I learned was to use the black and yellow wires instead of red and green for digital. I'll go check it again. Just thought get your input.

Interesting stuff. I work in K12 IT. All of our schools have these panels mounted on a wall in the main data closet/room. But I highly doubt they're used anymore. Long before I started working there they transitioned to VOIP phones so all of the analog stuff is largely unused. Its just been sitting there for years. Don't know if they'll eventually rip it out or just leave it there. I believe only the security alarms still use a phone line.

The old block, telephone ports, gives me shivers every time I see them, old jumpers hanging, maybe one still has a battery attached waiting to eventually die in some decrepit looking brick windowless building with a slightly crooked AT&T logo hanging. You stand and watch as an old man steps out, his pure white beard catches in the wind, he shakes his head. Soon the job of a phoneman will just be a memory. All these young people with VoIP, no one wants a physical connection anymore I think that says a lot about our society.😢

How would you do a phone number move (phone swap) on a 110?

nice video! any tips on identifying what the source relates to on the 110? ie port1, 2 etc. do you have to look at the pbx's config?

yes, Every PBX is different. *In General* the extension ports go from left to right (or top to bottom on 66 block). In this video, I was showing a Nortel 0x32 PBX. Having said that, it's pretty easy to find the installer manual for just about any PBX on the Internet (unless the system is really, really old). Thanks for you question. :-D

1. Lost dial-tone on my land-line phone yesterday, but internet (multiplexed) remained intact. how can this be? 2. The tech. who came out advised that another guy would be out here to replace a small part in the B-Box...and then I'd have dial-tone again. Does this make any sense? I suspect the problem (he said NOT in my building) was ACTUALLY in the CO. Any thoughts? 3. (BTW), "MIRACULOUSLY" dial-tone returned this morning (and no one seemed to make an on-site visit). ..and internet performance seemed to boost up.

How do you turn off the power to work on it? Do you really have to?

Generally speaking, with telecom connections, you work on that stuff while it’s hot. Excellent question BTW. 😀

I got here, because I am more a IT related tech. But every-once-in-awhile it ends up crossing over to POTS and then I'm in the "wilderness". This stuff frustrates me. Especially how I'm usually using Ethernet wire colors for it. The project I'm looking into is requesting a cross-connect from a VeloCloud SDWAN device to POTS. Any pointers that you could give me to get better at this side of things? I can trace Ethernet all day, but doing the same thing with POTS gets me flustered. I need help.
