Finally getting a chance to review products, something I've always wanted to do. Here I'll tell you what I think of the Celestron Nexstar 5SE telescope. Is it a good first scope? Is it good for advanced amateurs?

I just got the 6SE. Love it. I have an Orion 8 inch DOB and an Orion 4 inch tabletop reflector, and the 6SE is a great addition to the other scopes. So easy to use. Only got to use it once before the rain and clouds came in every night. I knew where m31 and m42 were, so after using Skyalign, the goto worked perfectly. I did get the Powertank. It was worth it.

I started off with a Celestron Ultima 80 spotting scope, thinking if I didn't like astronomy I could always use it for shooting sports and wildlife photography. After the first year of owning the Ultima 80 I've decided to upgrade to the 5SE! Very excited to see the sky more clearly

So glad to see this, Celestron has become my favourite company. I recently suffered the devastating loss of both my old telescopes, a cheap starter Bushnell 114cm reflector and my Celestron 114 goto, both were crushed during a change of residence and a load that shifted, the primarys weren't recoverable due to scratching. I am now relegated to binoculars to satisfy my star gazing needs and will have to save for at least a year before I can afford a new scope so your reviews will go a long way to helping me decide what to save for. Thanks for all the great videos and I do "keep looking up", even when just out walking, the night sky when clear is far more interesting then a sidewalk.

I have had this scope for about 8 months now and I have so far never achieved a good alignment with it. The best I have had was that after alignment it found the moon about half way into the eyepiece but no DSO was ever visible and after 10 or 15 minutes it had lost ability to find the moon into the eyepiece at all. I must admit the experiences I have had so far are close to making me give up on trying to capture astro images because of the frustration of spending long nights attempting to capture an image and not ever achieving a good enough alignment to find the galaxy or nebula I am looking for

Hi, I like your videos. I have Nexstar 5se with 25mm eyepiece. I am able to see Moon, Saturn and Jupiter clearly. I was wondering what eyepieces I should get to have a close look on planets and Moon and deep sky objects. Do I need to combine Barlow lenses? I'm still quite a beginner with big passion for astronomy. Thank you Infront 😊 clear skies

Thanks for the great videos. I’m having two problems with this scope and I was wondering if you have any suggestions. First, I can’t read the keypad in the dark when it’s scrolling. The letters all jumble together. I slowed scrolling down as much as possible and played with the brightness and contrast to no avail. If I move it around to adjust the viewing angle I can kind of get the idea of what it’s displaying. Do I have a defective keypad? Second, I align a bright star in the finder but when I look through the eyepiece I don’t see the star at all. It seems I can see the star better with the naked eye. Is there some sort of alignment I have to do with the finder before using the eyepiece? I do have the star centered. What am I missing? Thanks.

They do sell used scopes at OPT but I don't know how much they are, you can check the website. I may ask them for something as a promotion for my channel in the future though, that's a good idea. Think I better get some more videos under my belt before i ask them though :-)

Thanks for the review, but I do have a question if you have a moment. I purchased the NexStar 5SE after watching your review, but can’t figure out how to manually slew to an object after alignment. I thought I could manually point to an object (using the direction buttons), but that doesn’t seem to be an option. Am I missing something? Thanks again!

Great video but I have to disagree with the prism diagonal being cheap and not as good as mirrors. The reason Celestron opt for a prism is because they offer superior light scatter control in slow telescopes at F10 Yes mirror will probably do a bit better on deep sky but not on planets. I had this prism tested side by side with a Takashi and Baarder and I couldn’t see the slightest difference

I read that there is an app that inputs the GPS/Time through your smart phone. Is this true? Because it's pretty important if it is. Thanks for the great video! The GPS/Time input thing puts me off tbh and the GPS accessory is $250... (25% the price of the actual scope!) that's the price of Garmin GPS but with no screen or features.

You can just make out the surface of Jupiter with a squint of the eye. Still tiny but the views look crystal clear with its moons as well. Going to try a 5X Barlow lens and see if that makes the view better, when the clouds decide to go away!
@k.h.1587
@k.h.1587 Ай бұрын
Most 5x barlows are pretty bad unless you go with a power mate type (4 element tele extender). 2x and 3x barlows can be pretty decent, but you also want to get some higher power eyepieces. Plossls down to 8-9-10mm are still tolerable. But there are longer eye relief types that are much more comfortable down to your theoretical max of 5mm (without Barlow) for an f10 scope. A 6 or 7mm will be usable on more nights than a 5mm

I recently bought on layaway a Celestron Nexstar in a local pawnshop at 200 bucks. The only downside is that the main reflector lens is dirty with some fingerprints on it. What would you recomend using to clean up that mirror? I was thinking on using 100% alcohol with a microfiber cloth but I'm not really sure if I should use that since it's most likely a surface mirror. What are your suggestions?
@deepastronomy
@deepastronomy 5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't use microfiber on the corrector plate, use lens cleaning tissues. They are designed for the purpose and don't leave dust. Microfiber is great at holding small grains that can scratch so don't use that. Also, dilute the alcohol with 50% distilled water.

Personally I would take the 6. The tilt wedge on the 5 is a cruel joke, and all these se scopes are best used for stacking shorter exposures and using derotation software in stacking. They just don't have the precision for long exposure and autoguiding, even though they have those features it is best to go with German equatorial for that

The 5SE is more expensive has about 140% the aperture so still good for the planets and Moon bit gives you a bit more light for faint objects. Not a fast optical system but faster than the mak..
