Hakuna Matata THANK YOU so much! Yes, I have lots of eyepieces but there is only one MOOSE :) She was surrendered to a small dog rescue I volunteer for. I've had her for 4 years now but she is 7 years old. Weighs only 2.3 lbs! She eats 1/8 cup of food for the whole day. She has lower spine damage and walks on her front two legs. Here are some clips of her: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f9SEiKSkuairg2Q.html Thanks again!

15:24 Superb watching and sounds... love the Delos specs, price and its sound too. I own a very modest set of vintage TVs--my favorite is the discontinued, massive, dual-barrel 22 mm Panoptic--awesome :-) also fun is the discontinued 7 mm Nagler Original, the discontinued 15 mm TV Wide-Field (65 deg AFOV) and the still-selling 40 mm Plossl (even though it has an AFOV of 43 deg). Tele Vue has contributed so much to eyepiece design and support of amateur astronomy; I like being a part of that historically. I don't know why most of my eyepiece choices were eventually discontinued by TV--but am now looking to replace an old 10 mm Plossl with a 10 mm Delos or even the great-God Ethos.

Remarkable collection ! Where is the Ethos series ? You don't have ALL OF THEM yet i guess XD Showing 'em is great but in which situations and/or target do you prefer one over the others ? I'd like to know that.
@starastronomer
@starastronomer 4 жыл бұрын
Rudy J...thank you. I will only get eyepieces that have at least 18mm of eye relief as I wear glasses. The Ethos series does not have the eye relief I need as I observe with my glasses on. Also, in my opinion I find that 82° fields are the largest I like to use. Even better are the 72° eyepieces. The Ethos have far great fields than I feel comfortable with. Again, just my preference. My Radian's are used for my TV 60mm scope because of their smaller size. Also use those for public observing nights. The other two series I find equal to use on any object. But, I do find myself grabbing the Delos (72°) series more often. My scopes are all refractors.If you were to ask me which series to get over the three shown here it would be the Delos's for the very comfortable 72° fields. Really love these.
@HereComesTheStormTrooper
@HereComesTheStormTrooper 4 жыл бұрын
@@starastronomer Ok i understand that perfectly about Ethos and the eye relief you need. I agree about very wide FOVs, above 82° is kind of useless to me too. I also wear glasses but I often take them off, going deep, leaving with some astigmatism left to deal with. I'm actually observing with some ES 82 eyepieces that allow me that flexibility. But in the future I might go for lower FOV eyepieces but with greater confort ( as you say Delos might fit the need) and I love TVO's products but can't really afford them right now. Thanks for your answer ! Clear skies !

@@starastronomer They really did it right with the Delos. I have the whole collection also. I am not a fan of Barlows, and the Delos is SUPERB for comfort, eye relief and that full lens area is WELL appreciated by someone that has had eye issues like yourself. Yah, they are a little heavier than the Delites, but the extra weight is well worth it. I am hoping they will possibly put a couple more lower mag pieces into the line up. I just bought my second telescope, which is a 1200mm 8" dob, which my wife and I are going to use for viewing nebulas, start clusters and planets. I'm going to outlay some extra money on a Tele Vue lens, but I'm not sure what focal length I'm likely to use the most. Some people have suggested that 10mm might be the best to start with, and others are saying that something in the 20mm range and a Barlow might be better to start? At the end of the day, I probably don't mind too much as long as it's going to be something worth keeping for whatever I happen to buy in the years to come. Great vids, keep up the great content, cheers ❤😁

Thank you so much Dynamic Hypnotic and congratulations on your second telescope purchase. My own personal opinion is I'm not a barlow fan. I much prefer to use just the eyepiece alone. You are correct in that a good eyepiece will follow you down the road with any future telescopes you may buy. Scopes may come and go but an eyepiece is forever :) Also consider eyepieces with a generous eye relief. If you wear glasses or may in the future I feel it is an important consideration. I for the most part keep my glasses on while at the scope.

Hi. I couldn’t find anyone asking this, so I’m going to… why do you have both the Delos and the DeLite series? I just got my first telescope, newt 8” f/5 and have just ordered my first TV Delos 10mm. At some point I think I will also get the Panoptic 24mm. I hear so much positive things about that one. I don’t mind taking of my glasses.

I wanted the DeLite's as they would be nice in smaller scopes. The Delos for larger scopes. You can of course use these in any size scope. My favorite is the Delos series. The 24 Pan should be excellent. I just don’t take off my glasses so need the longer eye relief. Clear skies ✨️

Hi there I had another question. Just wondering why you don’t use a Barlow and reduce the number of eyepieces needed. Or maybe it’s nice to have them all to have a complete collection? Personally I don’t like using a Barlow
@starastronomer
@starastronomer 4 жыл бұрын
evhvariac...Well, I am not a big fan of Barlow's. Just a personal opinion though. I have many scopes of varying focal lengths so when I bought a certain series it was easier to get them all so each eyepiece could be used where needed with the scope being used. Not every FL will work with every telescope. I feel eyepieces are an investment that can always be used as you change scopes in the future. Taken care of they are a lifetime optic. The Radians are a great "smaller" eyepiece in the 1.250" size. If you have a small scope like my TeleVue 60mm the eyepieces size fits perfectly to the small body size of the scope.

@@starastronomer Very good reasoning. I can't understand why people are so willing to pay top $ for their scope rig but want to get the EP's on the cheap? My cataract surgery changed the world from yellowish (your lens turns yellow) to bright and clear past 4 feet away. Infinite focus lens are awesome. Only TeleVue I have is a 1.25 2x Barlow. I got it when I bought a C6-N reflector at a pawn shop for $125 for both. My _best_ eyepiece is a 2" Explore Scientific 100 degree fov 9mm. Great EP for splitting multiple star systems and getting them all in the fov. No matter what, you can always split stars and I have the Cambridge Double Star Atlas with 2500 listed multiple star systems. The Lyra double double is a double triple. I use an apo 4 element Luminos 2.5x Barlow that is excellent.

@starastronomer
@starastronomer 4 жыл бұрын
Alessandro Zaninetti Your question is very interesting. First, the Radian's are no longer made. You would have to buy them used. From your statement should I infer you are having issues with the visual quality of your views in your scope? I have no experience with Meade scopes but do have some of their eyepieces. An eyepiece can't make an image "better" if the image at the focal plane isn't good. So I do not know what you are trying to ask with "would I improve visual quality?". Are the optics good? Are the optics properly collimated? Is the seeing bad? That could affect the image if the seeing is bad. Has the scope come to thermal equilibrium? Are the optics very dirty? Now, a poor eyepiece could make a good image from the scope look bad. Can you use different eyepieces from someone else to test in your scope? If you are a member of an astronomical group that would be a great start. Shy of that buying a different brand eyepiece may not be the correct thing or take care of the issue.

@starastronomer
@starastronomer 4 жыл бұрын
Alessandro Zaninetti I cannot predict what your scope will show with any given eyepiece and would not want to recommend something you won't be happy with. I stated that in my video. Like I said in the video too, an eyepiece is "in the eye of the beholder", personal to each viewer. Yes, TV eyepieces aren't cheap. For me I really like the Delos 72° Apparent Fields. My favorite "grab" eyepiece. I find them to be very comfortable to use with my eyeglasses on. The DeLite 62° Apparent Fields are excellent and cheaper. You can't go wrong with either series. It comes down to the cost. A good example are the Ethos 100° & 110° Apparent Field Eyepieces. I hate them. No, that doesn't mean they are bad but with my glasses on I can't see the entire field so why spend $$$ on them. Yet many people have them. And yes, I have looked through them. Fine optically but it comes down to the FOV being too wide for me. You ask if it is worth the cost. To me yes. Depends again what your expectations are in the eyepiece. Only you can decide. It's like a car. I have a Honda CR-V. It may be great for me but the next guy finds it doesn't meet his needs. May I recommend you see if you can return an eyepiece should it not meet your expectations. That is what I would try. Then you can see if it works for you. Even if you were charged a fee for the return you haven't committed to the entire cost of the eyepiece.
