‘Tell me, some pitying angel’ (The Blessed Virgin’s Expostulation), written in 1693, tells the story of the seemingly-lost twelve-year-old Jesus Christ as referenced in the Gospel of Luke, from His mother’s perspective, before He is found teaching in the Temple.
Here, we explore the Virgin Mary’s many emotions, including her profound distress, confusion and doubt, as well as her underlying faith and hope, as she searches the overcrowded Jerusalem for her Jesus.
Described by Purcell as ‘Apt for the Holy Family’, this work is sung for Jesus Christ in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary, of Joseph, her spouse, as well as Saints Cecilia, Genesius, Thérèse of Lisieux and Jude.
This performance is also dedicated to St. Malachy’s (The Actors’ Chapel) of New York - / @st.malachys-theactors... - with thanks for their kindness, generosity and support: UIOGD.
