Very first World youth Day in Asia, Philippines 1995 with Saint Pope John Paull II, I was a deligate from Pampanga. I was 16. It changed my life.

I was 17 years old first year college when I first heard this song and I was freshly converted to other religion that time..but after hearing this I decided to return to catholicism since I wasn't allowed to sing this song in other religion because it's only for catholic activities..and I remembered that time the pastor in the whole week was kept telling us about negativities of Pope John Paul II...that's the time I decided to go back to my birth religion...

I recall crying and asking Jesus to forgive my sins.i know the sound strange 😢😢😢

i was 5yrs old when i sing this song in front of pope John Paul II. That was 1995 the world youth day. and that say my life changes.

God was able to save me from myself. God was able to save me from pills/death, and blade couldn’t penetrate my skin. I grew up with parents who barely showed me any love, a father who mostly took (financially and emotionally) and never provided. At some point in my teens, way before I became a Christian, I even developed this belief that I’m incapable of being loved. I called out to God (not Jesus in particular at that point) and I asked him to take my pain away and in return, I’d help everyone and anyone as much as I could. 

For about 5-8 years, I went about helping people out of morality. It was until when my life suddenly turned so much for the better (financially and emotionally), I recognised that it was not my own doing and headed down to a church and started to worship Jesus on my own. 

However, my life had a turn for the worst, absolutely rock bottom, just 2 years later. Another two years went by, God was there for me, it was easier to manage to cope during that 2 years of uncertainty while I waiting to be able to hope again. However, when the absolutely worst news dropped on me, all I could do was to apologise constantly to our Lord Jesus that I’m done with life, I’ve helped enough people (morality, not God’s work) in this lifetime and I was too tired to keep on fighting… For 3 nights in a row, Friday - Sunday, I tried to take my own life. I cut my left wrist on the first night but I was unable to get the bleed going. I tried to drown myself in a basin of water but I chickened out. I decided to try the next night. On Saturday night, I swallowed enough muscle relaxants and throat medicine (from my covid medication), I lay in bed thinking I was peaceful, I said sorry to God as I felt my body go numb, my heart starting to pound as madly as it could to process the pills in my body and I felt my heart tense up, going into cardiac arrest. All I could recall was that I blacked out, woke up in the middle of the night trying to puke but didn’t, then collapsing back into bed and waking up the next morning feeling “oh rats, why am I still here??”, (still not thankful or realised what God has done for me). On the final night, I took the kitchen knife, which cuts meat and vegetables and went at it on my right wrist after I spotted a very obvious vessel. As hard and determined as I went at my wrist (as I had set the deadline for myself, no pun intended), the area on my wrist simply swelled up for no reason. I even tried different angles, but I simply could not cut my skin and the swell simply kept growing. I took the remaining last few pills of muscle relaxants I had and tried to drown myself again, putting on my swimming goggles and nose clip looking like a fool to prevent the water from touching my eyes and waking me up. However, the nose clip and goggles which I’ve worn for months felt like they were burning my nose and around my eyes. I waited long for myself to fall asleep and drown ‘peacefully’ in the huge basin of water, but I simply couldn’t go through with it. I decided to try the knife again at my wrist and the same thing happened. After about a full hour of trying, I finally looked up and told God, “you win.” I woke up with deep red cuts the next morning that had already clotted. God was able to save me from myself. God was able to save me from pills, and blade couldn’t penetrate my skin. In fact, all along, he’s been sending me small tangible reminders that he is still at work in my life, sending me people whom I’ve to contacted much who texted me out of nowhere, even sharing the bible verse “Our Lord Jesus is with you and we are praying He will strengthen you 🌟🌟🌟 Hebrews 13:5 I will never leave you nor forsake you.) God even gave me covid at a very important time which delayed a troubling date, giving me more time to cope with the storm) I’ve shared this testimony with at least 15 fellow Christian/Catholic friends and pastors, and 3 non believers as well, in the hopes of renewing their faith and planting seeds in the rest, that they’d remember my testimony, that they’d turn to Jesus in the middle of the storm and trust in Him.

I am still in the midst of my lowest point in life, but I feel so much less worried. I am able to trust in our Lord so much better now. I sleep most nights with ease. Give to our Lord our burdens and Trust in Jesus! I am still in the midst of my lowest point in life, BUT I will still praise God! 

In Jesus Christ name, He who lovingly died for us on the cross, I delightfully say, Amen!

How I wish I were alive in 1995. How I wish I was part of this phenomenon but I was born in 1996. Thank you St. John Paul II for visiting Philippines, and thank you God for your immense love for us.

I was the Youth Ministry Chairman of our Parish then .. we did joined all the youths at luneta staying overnight .. what a great experience i had .. from all the activities we did from the preparation till the culminating mass with the Pope.. no other experience can surpassed it all in my life.. very thankful that i did not missed that wonderful experience that i will treasure for the rest of my life.. including the theme song plus the action ...❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I was a student of SCPS Pasay City and as a catholic school we were required to attened this event back then which i thought was a big drag and waste of time but looking back im definitely loud and proud to have taken part on this once in a lifetime event and I cherish every moment and instances that goes with it.What a remarkable moment for young teenage boy back then to partake.
