In this video I show you how to make handmade soap extra creamy, nutritious and conditioning to the skin. Thank you for watching❣️
🟢Learn to formulate your own soap recipes here: www.tellervo.fi/shop/p/the-so...
Recipe:
204 g olive oil
30 g pumpkin seed oil
30 g castor oil
150 g coconut oil
138 g shea butter
48 g cocoa butter
140 g distilled water (+40-80 g extra for hot process soap)
12 g citric acid (do not omit if using this recipe)
91.4 g sodium hydroxide (adjusted for citric acid)
½ tsp titanium dioxide
¼ tsp green oxide
1 heaping tbsp almond butter
10 ml fragrance or essential oil for a lightly scented soap
Cure the soap for 4-6 weeks before using it on your skin.
○ Citric acid information
When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Sodium citrate works as a chelator in soap.
A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water.
These metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap.
A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves + shelf life increases.
Citric acid does not lower the pH of soap. Instead it consumes some of the lye and increases the superfat. Add 6 g extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid added to a soap recipe if you want to keep the superfat % at the same level.
How much citric acid should be added to soap?
Usage rate in bar soap is 1-2% of the oil weight.
How to use citric acid
Add citric acid to the distilled water and dissolve completely before adding the lye, or make a separate solution of citric acid and distilled water and add to the oils.

Hey Sara, It’s amazing that you can incorporate Flaxseed gel in your soap but have you tried incorporating chia gel and hempseed gel when it comes to your soap? If not do you think you can experiment with them, see what results they’d bring?

@@michellewhite6992 - methinks you will impact the efficacy of the oils that way. You are toasting for flavour - that’s a different scenario - albeit heat still reduces the benefits 😊. However when it comes to the TD, green oxide and worse still, ‘fragrance oil/s’ i would recommend to err on the side of caution…

I absolutely love watching your videos. They are so calming and satisfying to watch. No offense to other soap makers, but I love the no talking, soothing music only, videos the best. They are perfect for someone, like myself, with an anxiety disorder. Also, I’ve learned so much about soap making by watching your videos. I’m very interested in trying more natural colorants to color my soaps. It is so interesting to see how some of them change so drastically once the lye solution is added, in particular the Himalayan rhubarb powder. That turns into such a beautiful red color in the end product. I really want to try that for a Valentine’s Day themed soap soon. Thank you so much for sharing your recipes & techniques. I really appreciate them.

@@tellervo. I was just looking at recipes using nut butter and especially using it as a cake filling or frosting by adding honey or sugar and spreading in-between a sponge cake, if it is a little too thin for speeding add a splash of water which will seize up the butter a little and make it thicker, maybe incorporating into cookies also . I think it could also be used in savoury middle Eastern type dishes adding garlic and herbs to use as a marinade or like satay. Try making a pesto with the almond butter, herbs of your choice such a basil, parsley or sage etc. crush garlic, add olive oil and mix into a pesto, toss onto freshly cooked pasta, voila! Like the sound of the bamboo FO, so nice and fresh.

hi! I just wanted to say I absolutely love your soap making videos and I can't stop rewatching them. Also, I was wondering if you could possible made a video on how you use the soap making calculator. I've tried to use it but it confuses me so much 😬
