Ben's tones are amazing. If I didn't know better, I'd say he was a native speaker!

Agreed. May I please ask which other videos could be used to learn Mandarin so that I can use it globally in other places?

Yes, Thank you both so much for putting on these straight forward videos, Please make more simple ones, how about hiking, biking, walking around in China, buying, exploring. Entering different venues, manners customs, any would help.. Thanks again and I hope you can keep making it fun.. Greetings from Lake City, Colorado, USA

If I want to say 8:55 ( five minutes to nine) in Chinese, will it still be correct if I said "jiu dian cha wu fen" instead of saying "cha wu fen jiu dian"?

Thank you for putting the bloopers in their own video - it was hard to hear them under the music in the credits.

I've always heard, say, for 8:50 - ba dian cha shi fen. Or 5:45 - wu dian cha yi ke. Now you say the 'cha' thing first; which is correct?

When using 'yi ke' to express quarter past in this video, 'yi' is marked as tone 2; is this a difference between mandarin spoken in mainland china and Taiwan?

Can you use either of these? a) Cha yi ke wu dian - 4.45 b) Wu dian san ke - 5.45
@NortheasternChina10 жыл бұрын
Both of them are correct.Young people can understand that(I mean ke) but it's quite rare to use it.Almost all of time we use the first and second methods in the video.

Time is gold for Chinese community and learning to tell time is very appropriate. In CONVOCONNECT-DOT-COM, you can took a number of training before you go to sweep up on your discussion abilities. It is a good website as it allows you to book private lessons with native speakers so all the focus is on you and you can learn much faster. You can check out different teacher profiles, see their experience and qualifications, and view their electronic calendars in real-time to see what availability they have. Once you have chosen a teacher you just top up your account and use credits to purchase the lesson. the lessons then take place online,on Skype. Best of all you get to decide when you want to learn (you book a time slot) and decide what exactly you want the teacher to focus on - e.g. conversation practice, business, travel, and role plays etc. That would be exciting and more realistic isn't it?!

How can you say AM or PM?

You could specify morning or night with zaoshang (早上)or wanshang (晚上). For example, 7 o'clock in the morning would be: zaoshang qi dian (早上七点). In Chinese you always start with the largest increment of time first, so if you wanted to specify a specific date and time in the near future, the format would be: day-of-the-week / time-of-day / hour / minute. Wednesday, in the evening, at 8:30. Xingqi san wanshang ba dian ban. 星期三晚上八点半。
