I love they covered the puppet used for close-ups in _Godzilla Raids Again,_ which _does_ look like a puppet, but has one of my favorite elements of design for the creature, where it looks like Godzilla's got too many teeth for its mouth, bristling from its jaw like thorns. Along with the keloid-scarred hide, it really does make Godzilla look like some sort of radiation-altered mutant.

Shin Godzilla is the most depressing of all the incarnations. Poor thing just wanted the pain to stop. It was just acting purely on instinct. It didn’t mean to hurt anyone (except the bombers and well they attacked him first) Even his atomic breath simply seemed to be his desperate attempts to get rid of the excess energy building up inside of him and causing him even more pain
