This video shows how to optimize and fix some common WiFi problems on the Arcadyan version of the Telstra Smart modem Gen 2. If you have the Technicolor version there is a video at this link • Port Forwarding Telstr...
It covers how to use the modem's inbuilt WiFi scanner to select a WiFi channel with least interference.
How to turn of band steering so that the 5 GHz WiFi netork can use a different name to the 2.4 GHz WiFi network.
How to fix wrong password errors even though correct password has been entered.
How to turn of Protected Management Frames that can cause problems with older devices.
How to measure the WiFi signal from the modem.

Thanks, David for your video it helped steer me in the right direction, my problem was after connecting to the NBN with the Smart Modem Gen 2 provided by Telstra, having the trouble of being unable to re-link smart devices back to the home hub and the clash of 2.4ghz~5ghz wifi, your mentioning of the problems of 'band steering' and the penny dropped! I just disabled the 5ghz wifi then I could re-link my devices again. After that, I re-enabled the 5ghz and everything works just fine now so thanks again :) liked and subscribed. Stay awesome!

@David Smith Coming from a different modem which is the Netgear C6300BD to the Arcadyan LH1000 and I notice straight away that when opening and loading webpages and things it is much slower and sluggish. Also when buffering videos it doesnt buffer as quick. And the 2.5ghz band wifi signal is non existent. It sometimes find the ssid but then disappears. When connecting to ssid manually the internet lags and I have to walk up to the router for signal. On the latest firmware aswell.

The GUI is sluggish compared to some of the other modem's but I don't find it effects the performance. Your modem's 2.4 GHz WiFi might be faulty. A There have been a few reports of very weak signal on some of these modem. Suggest you measure the 2.4 Ghz WiFi signal using a WiFi analyzer app on an android device or PC. If below -40 dbm close to modem then the modem's 2.4 Ghz is faulty.

Hi, do you have a Devo video in creating a 2.4gHz network or creating a guest network for Telstra modems? Thanks
@DavidSmith-ir4hl
@DavidSmith-ir4hl Жыл бұрын
Hi, I don't have any videos. If you want to separate the 2.4 GHz network from the 5 GHz network just turn of band steering in the Wi-Fi settings. This will add -5G to the name of the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network. You can then choose which network to connect to. It is also fairly easy to create a guest Wi-Fi network. Just go to Wi-Fi settings and then go to the Guest Wi-Fi settings and turn it on.

Hi there Trying to connect a wifi camera have set different 2.4 and 5ghz networks but still doesn’t want to connect it says to check if wifi settings hides ssid and to turn off the hidden ssid any advice

First thing I would check that the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is transmitting. With band steering disabled you should see two Wi-Fi networks broadcast by modem in the list of available networks on devices the support both the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band and the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. One with normal name (2.4 GHz)and the other with normal name plus-5G added. If you only see the Wi-Fi network with -5G added then 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is faulty. If the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is not faulty I would try changing modem's 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi channel to a channel between 2 and 11. If still can't connect would try changing security mode of 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi From WPA2 PSK to WPA + WPA2 PSK.

does anyone know how i can disable AP isolation in this menu? I am trying to play a video game over WIFI, like, on the same network, so a LAN sort of thing, but the server isn't showing up in-game. Last time I tried to do a similar thing we had a different modem and it worked straight away :(
@DavidSmith-ir4hl

This problem could be due to a firmware bug in the modem's firmware. Modem's with earlier firmware had a bug that prevented devices connected to Wi-Fi connecting to devices on the LAN and vice versa. Another problem with the modems that had earlier firmware was the modem's didn't support NAT loopback. First thing I would do is check your firmware version. Firmware should be F/W 0.15. 1 6r or later. The firmware is displayed on left hand side of modem's log in page. Also make sure UPNP is enabled in the modem (Go to Advanced > Local Network > UPNP)

Do you know how to turn off 5ghz on telstra smart modem 3 so we can use 2.4ghz Arlo essential cameras.

To turn of the 5 Ghz Wi-Fi 1. Log into modem by opening a web browser and going to 192.168.0.1. ID is admin and the password is located on the bottom of the modem. 2. Go to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi settings 3. Turn off and save settings.

Could u do a video on how to disable 5ghz and enable 2.4ghz because I bought a smart light bulb and it is only compatible with 2.4ghz and I don’t know how to enable it.
@DavidSmith-ir4hl
@DavidSmith-ir4hl 3 жыл бұрын
To disable the 5 GHz, log into modem, go to WiFi settings, then go to the WiFi radio tab, remove tick next to 5 GHz Enabled and save settings. Rather than disable the 5 GHz WiFi it is better to disable band steering in the modem's 2.4 GHz WiFi settings. This adds -5G to the name of the 5 GHz WiFi. Just connect your smart light bulb to the modem's WiFi SSID that doesn't have the -5G added.

great info. does the hieght of the modem make a difference? is it possible to rig an aerial to that modem?
@DavidSmith-ir4hl
@DavidSmith-ir4hl 2 жыл бұрын
It is not possible to rig an aerial to the modem. The height of the modem does make a difference but obstacles between modem and device make a greatest difference especially metal objects. Best not to place modem at ground level but place at desk height or slightly higher.

If other devices also can't see the modem's 2.4 GHz WiFi is probably faulty and not transmitting. Suggest you lodge a fault with Telstra.

What did you do. If front status light is red and the online light goes out and stays out there is a fault with the internet link.
