Tempering of steel welds by sending a tempering pulse after the welding pulse in order to reduce weld hardness by breaking down martensite into ferrite and cementite. Tempering can be easily performed in a resistance weld by sending a second pulse while the parts are still held between the electrodes. Effect of tempering pulse can be gauged by measuring the weld hardness.
