The German Open 2024 at Lake Forggensee is now a wrap! The event turned out differently than expected with plenty of rain from heavy clouds, but we successfully completed 8 fair and challenging races. We were thrilled to have five nations (Germany, France, Switzerland, Hungary, and the USA) at the starting line and a crowded field of 27 boats. As the photos from the first day show, we kicked off with warm, sunny weather and a welcoming atmosphere. However, conditions on the water quickly shifted as a major thunderstorm forced us to demonstrate our skills in heavy weather. Some teams managed to lower their sails, while others faced the storm head-on. Honestly, the Tempest is an exceptional boat well-suited for such conditions, and thankfully, everyone made it back to the harbor safely. After the stormy start, the weather turned quite cold, but everything went smoothly. We had a wonderful time and look forward to seeing everyone at the next race at Simssee.
A huge thank you to the club and all the volunteers who helped make this great event possible!
