‘Temple Street Father’ and his life mission helping Hong Kong’s homeless

Since arriving in Hong Kong in 1985, John Wotherspoon has spent his time helping the city’s disadvantaged. The Australian priest was first posted to a Kowloon parish and on Lantau Island before spending a period of time teaching English in mainland China. In 2009, Wotherspoon moved to a subdivided flat in Yau Ma Tei’s Temple Street in Kowloon to be near the homeless. Over the years, Wotherspoon has earned the nickname “Temple Street Father” for his work with the local homeless and ex-convicts. And at the age of 74, Wotherspoon has no plans to slow down and intends to continue helping Hong Kong’s poor.

Started this video with skepticism thinking how much can one father do. After finishing the clip, I have the utmost respect for the Father seeing that he is selfless and genuinely wants to help the less fortunate. Is there a way I can donate to his cause?

Hey there, The video mentions that that he is part of the MercyHK organization, so I googled it. Apparently, they are accepting donations but the process may be a bit complex. They have info for donations on their website: www.mercyhk.org/misc/info-for-donors.htm

Wow, Sir. U are truly an angel send from Heaven to help the less fortunate, the don and out. U are a beacon of God's ray of hope. At 74, u are still actively involved the such charitable movement without any recognition. On behalf of those whom u have helped and i believed, many are still needing your help, i said THANK YOU VERY MUCH. U have a heart made of solid gold. Thank you, SIR.

Why is the Buddhist temples not build HOSTEL, KITCHEN. ALSO labour short Hong Kong can pick up part time workers. There cannot be more than 0.2% that are in severe problem. 😌

It's the part we didn't see that speaks volumes. We only know it didn't work for him and that he soon left the apartment. These typ of shelters have rules for the safety of others staying there. Likely alcohol and drugs are strictly prohibited.
