I decided to make a video describing one of the types of seizures that I experience regularly with temporal lobe epilepsy. Feeling a bit crumby so forgive my appearance but DO remember to subscribe! Raising awareness one video at a time 💜💪💜

Thank you for sharing. I have a daughter with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and people keep thinking she has behaviour problems or needs a Psych. Helping me understand how you feel helps a lot. My daughter has disabilities and cannot articulate as well as yourself. Stay brave, you help and support people by sharing.

I’ve only had these experiences when i was a child, and in my late teens. For me it started with a normal feeling of dejavu, but then very quickly just pulls you into what in that moment feels like real dream memories you’ve had and you remember everything about it. Then boom, it’s gone, and you just feel like you came back from a different plane of existence

Wow! Never knew this was epilepsy until now! No wonder my nurse practitioner put me on meds that help prevent epilepsy. I didn't understand why but I've explained so much to her about myself. Thankfully she pays attention!

Mr. Awesome Cat Fuzzypants I kept it to myself for years. I started noticing a pattern in all of it but I still had a difficult time trying to describe it out loud. I would tell my family about it but it never sounded serious to warrant their concern, just ‘hmmm that’s weird’. I felt like I was seeing a dream in my head of something I felt like I dreamed before. Everything felt like it had happened before. Sometimes there would be words or phrases I was hearing in this dream state but I couldn’t even tell you what I was hearing. As it would come on, I would suddenly get very hot and slowly I’d feel sick in the pit of my stomach. And this overwhelming sense of doom would rise and it was terrifying while it was happening. Some are worse than others but when it’s happening, it feels like the world is ending. I would also smell a weird smell that I couldn’t describe either. Then as suddenly as it came on, it would go away. For years, I just figured it was something I would just live with and manage them by fanning myself until it was over. I didn’t really tell the doctors because it honestly just sounds crazy. Some people thought I was just having a panic attack but I knew that wasn’t it. One day I decided to google search exactly what I described to you, and I found temporal lobe epilepsy. My self diagnosis was eventually confirmed and an MRI showed that I have scar tissue on my temporal lobe which is what is causing the seizures. I can’t tell you exactly what triggers the seizures but I know stress, stimulants like caffeine and sometimes certain lighting trigger them. I notice I have them more often around my menstrual cycle as well.

I started having similar symptoms when I was 12 years old. Then it would happen every once in every few year. It felt like the worst tummy pain and somebody put poison in my mouth. I didn’t know to describe it or never been to doctor for this.

I started having these sort of auras years ago. At first they happened only once in a great while. Over the years they became more frequent with additional symptoms. I never took medicine since I wasnt losing consciousness. 10 years later the auras led into grand mal seizures and now I have no choice but to take medicine everyday 😩 but at least no more auras or full blown seizures

I am also a victim of it...Surely...I have synesthesia and I see people's aura and object's halos ... I am seeing multi familiar things also...But it is a common thing...1/3 of the world have it...But we are the safest ones...We are lucky to have it because we have the warning from our inner intuition and that allows us to be protected and in a very safe place...That's how auras attack.

I appreciate the way you tell it as being "injected into a dream" and the "story set up" is a perfect description. Unknowing I had epilepsy, when I was younger I'd describe it "I'm going back into an old forgotten dream, I've been here before, but it was in a dream". I called them flashbacks. Thank you for sharing, April!

Thank you both, I have this exact thing. The flashes of a dream you can't remember having is exactly how I feel. I always tell my wife that it's like i remember all the dreams I ever had and that its so scary that if these really are my dreams, that I dream this much. Also, whats really odd with me is sometimes at night when I dream, I literally feel like I'm in the dream for like months or even years. I wake up and its like I was in a coma for years or something and it really freaks me out bad.

I'm getting an EEG because of videos like this that so intelligently described something so similar to my experience. Infected into a dream does describe these episodes I have of sudden dream recall and it's a lot like those deja Vu feelings and sometimes they're followed by a sudden sense of impending doom. I feel like something is messing with my head sometimes. But it has to be like this And I wonder if they'll have me do a sleep deprived EEG or how it all works. I'm nervous but I want answers.

Same here, had it since I was a child and referred to it as “deja vu seizures”. My parents didn’t see it as something serious either, but I got checked for epilepsy two years ago In order to figure it out but they found nothing. I think this type of epilepsy isn’t very researched on and there’s little knowledge about it sadly.

It's unfortunately very common for people to suffer with these deja vu auras for years before they're finally diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE)). Part of the reason is because people generally think epilepsy is just the dramatic fall-to-the-ground and shake kind of thing. They don't realize that there are many other types, too. And like in April's case, many of them don't cause unconsciousness. Thank you, April, for explaining what deja vu auras feel like. I also have TLE, but my auras present as waves of intense nausea and sweating lasting several minutes. I was misdiagnosed at first. Finally I saw a neurologist who tested me and put me on epilepsy meds. After trial and error with several epilepsy meds, my seizures are under control. I wish the same for you.

This 👏🏼 to me the worst part is that, the lack of awareness that causes to take so long to be diagnosed. It took them 7 years to diagnose me ( since I started going more and more at 14). However , counting the fact that I had always felt the same way, it took them 21 years.

I don’t collapse and stuff.” Long story short I blacked out while driving from having one. Thankfully the wires on the side of the interstate saved my life with my seatbelt as well. Got tested, yep. Omg you are literally the 1st person who was ever able to explain what happens to me!! Mine sometimes wake me up in the middle of the night and are super scary. Sometimes they happen in the middle of the day and I try to tell people what it feels like and they look at me like I'm nuts. To me it feels like DeJa vu mixed with remembering my dreams and they're usually the scariest dream ever I'm remembering and it feels like I'm in actual hell. I always say "I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy." I also get visual auras where its like there's a ripple in my vision. Usually that goes away only if I go in a dark room for like a half hour with silence like a migraine. Super scary and I'm sorry you go through the deja vu part too.

Describing it to anyone is so difficult, and I'm good with words. Thank you so much for taking the time to verbalize the sensations because, I know all too well, it is so hard to do. The way you describe it is exactly how I experience it. I'm not on medication and haven't seen anyone about it because, though I've had them for years, I can go months without them. Anyway, thank you so much for giving me someone I can point to and say, hey, look, she has them, too.

Everything you said is so accurate to what I get. How you explained it as you feel misplaced and not in the real world sense. Also, how it is so familiar and nearly like you’ve been their in a past life I haven’t been diagnosed but I have just turned 18 and I can remember having these ‘flashbacks’ or as my dad calls it ‘déjà vu’ moments for years. I feel as though mine come from things that trigger something inside me, I can feel it starting and a majority of the times I can stop it, sometimes I can’t stop it and sometimes if I feel safe and in the right place I let it be. But, it is scary! If I’m alone I feel as though something is going to take me away from this life, I hear voices and think I see these imaginary characters nearly like people are trying to abduct me and I feel as though I might die. I also feel as though when I get this that I am fully aware and not impaired, so I can do anything and I’m able to do everything but it feels like sometimes I’m not in control of my body and it feels as though something will happen. For example, today I had one and it was when my father was driving me to go to dinner, it happened randomly with no tell tail signs and I felt as though I was going to jump out of the car(even though I wasn’t and didn’t have the urge to) but it was like someone was trying to control me. I don’t know if anyone can relate but I’d love to hear what you guys have to say as it is something I am coming to terms with and trying to understand. The most important part is that I am in control and most of the times I can fight it when I feel the sensation start.

11 years on since the SPSs began as a result of big brain aneurysm, I still return to these videos just to touch base. What is MOST important is the realisation that I am not the only one experiencing these crazy symptoms. Indeed when they started I was scared to share how they happened in case people thought I was making it up. Listening to you I feel like you do in that that we are not alone and know others who share the same condition, YET, when a seizure starts until back to normal (10-30mins) I feel as lonely as a person can feel. The sense of doom and the feeling of .....’why me?’......’oh no, not again’.....etc is irrational yet real. Yet also there is some strange sense of comfort when one begins ! A part of it is quite pleasurable! Perhaps the adrenaline rush? I don’t know. I do know that talking and listening and sharing is good especially with those who share the same things. Only those who do , could understand. Whilst others, even health professionals say the do....they don’t! You are clearly emotional and that’s normal. Suffering this is a burden know doubt and we all must share the burden for each other. Especially in awareness raising so keep posting and keep sharing your experiences with everyone you meet. It’s good for you. I will be thinking about you here in Scotland. Xxx

Thank you for sharing this. I somehow relate to you. I do have auras and 'blank' spatial moments. There are times I felt like I'm just a floating being/onlooker inside this form and I'm not really here in this reality yet it's familiar and not at the same time. That felt nauseous. I have migraine/vertigo attacks that made it worst. Two years ago I was rushed to the E.R. because I was very exhausted and probably reached a burn-out from my career and all sorts of very vivid dreams just couldn't stop my head from spinning and continuously thinking night and day. My face felt numb, my eyes very hot, unrelenting headaches, my right foot would twitch from time to time, I spoke inaudibly at times. The doctors could not even give a decent diagnosis (except deficiency, exhaustion and vertigo). I couldn't explain but it was more than that. But now, I am able to better manage all this - I meditate a lot and try to free my mind from thoughts whenever I can. It's not very easy to control one's thoughts and I don't even know if it's chemical-based or not. We all have our burdens to share. I don't want others to experience the torments of my attacks but it feels somehow relieving that others are fighting just as much as I am.

Was just randomly browsing and I came across this. Logged in to drop you a quick message. The "dream" description is quite a good way of putting it. Its like as soon as I get there everything has been pre-written and I know exactly whats about to happen next. It doesn't matter where I am, everything just feels like im viewing it through a familiar lens again. My aura is around 1/2 minutes so I always get a chance to have a walk around this dream world and gently, steadily prepare for the seizure thats about to come. I usually find a safe space, make it comfortable, lay down and then prepare for the chaos thats about to ensue lol. Theres a bit of fear but each time im actually surprisingly calm and collected about it. I describe it as the feeling of walking down the street, turning the corner and realising you left your keys in the front door! It's actually quite funny coming back around afterwards and looking at the horror on peoples faces if they have never seen one before. If its a really strong one i'll be knocked out for the rest of the day/night. Your not alone. We are out there too. Just keep on doing your thing you will be ok :D.

It's like you read my mind. Exactly how I feel and glad that I am not alone. Someone told me the other day that I inspire them because if I can do it then so can they. Know that you are not alone and that we will all get through it together. Keep going for as long as you can. Focus on the moment. Yesterday is history and the future can wait. Remind yourself of what you have also made it through like if yesterday was a bad day for example. That will make you feel strong. You are not crazy or weird. This is something that we can not help and did not ask for.

Best description I've ever heard. I've had "deja vu " as long as I can remember. I was told that it was because I'm an old soul and have been reincarnated many times. Then I explained it to mt neurologist after my first public seizure and he explained that it was an aura. My wife takes video and talks to him for me since I very rarely remember anything. Apparently I have a few different types. It is scary and I'm not legally allowed to drive making life even more difficult and scary. But I wouldn't want to put others in danger either.

Thank you very, very much for sharing your experience. I’m in the midst of trying to untangle the mess of strange symptoms I’ve been living with for years and my doctor finally told me that he thinks this might be what is going on… I’m torn between relief and despair, thinking of all of the years I’ve spent suffering and begging for doctors help and being told I’m mentally unstable and nothing more, thinking of all of the pain I’ve suffered struggling .. there might be an answer, perhaps even help if this is the correct diagnosis. So, simultaneously relieved and terrified, (and a little angry, admittedly) and grateful to you for sharing something incredible difficult to explain and unimaginably difficult to live through.

Thank you so much for this video. You've helped me so much, I've never been able to put into words exactly how these symptoms feel but you've hit the nail on the head. It really is like Deja-Vu in like a daydream form. I used to get it bad as a kid, roughly 8 years old, but it soon went away. I'm 24 now, and it's started coming back. However now I'm going to be able to go to the Doctor and explain myself now. I honestly can't thank you enough! I hope you're doing okay!

I feel a sense of relief having a better understanding of what's going on with me and knowing that there's others that experience the same thing. I remember the first few times, thinking to myself that maybe I was having early schizophrenia or dementia and feeling scared that maybe I would go into that deja vu/dream state and not come back. The immersion feels so intense that I was worried I would get stuck there permanently and my physical body would be here, like a vegetable or something, with no way to communicate what happened to me. Now that it's happened several times I feel like I'm able concentrate better during the immersion and I make an effort to remember bits and pieces of the "dream". I'm trying to make sense of where I'm going off to but then the nausea brings me back to reality and I feel completely exhausted and disoriented afterwards. It only last a few seconds but the fatigue lasts for a while after it's over.

I have these too and was diagnosed with Epilepsy. Which turned into a Grand Mal seizure in September. I feel silly for wanting to try for disability, but it has become more than just a temporary thing. After they happen, I’m no good. I’m exhausted and weak. I have three babies, so I have to just go go go. But the thought of working a job and holding down a job seems impossible. Even one less physically demanding because of how bad these have made my memory. I’m constantly forgetful and struggling with holding a decent conversation. I’m stuck between even trying. I feel like since it’s not constant grand mal seizures that DDS would laugh at me for even attempting.

Thank you for the video, it helped me. I've been experiencing what I call "flashbacks" for the past year. It's the aurus but it's like a dream inside my head. I see people who I know and I think I can explain it to my husband and then I can't remember the stuff I've just seen so I sound crazy. Just last night I had an actual seizure in my sleep that caused my entire body to get stiff and I couldn't breathe. My husband was there for me thank God. I'm going to see the doctor tomorrow. I hope you're feeling better.

This is exactly my life. I live alone and before treatment, I had an avg of 6-8 complex partial temporal lobe seizures a day. I've tried several meds and am on three right now but the game changer was the ketogenic diet. Now, I only have clusters every 2 weeks or so. Rarely, they generalize. My advice: get all new kitchenware that has automatic shut off, e.g., pressure cookers, toaster ovens, quick boil kettles, etc.; get on the keto diet; get to know all of your neighbors; carry at least two days worth of your meds, 8ncluding rescue meds with you (you can get spare bottles with correct labels from your pharmacy), wear a medical bracelet, and keep a journal of every aura & sz you have in your phone's calendar.

I had a right temporal lobe intracerebral hemorrhage almost a year ago that destroyed most of my right temporal lobe. It has left me with similar seizures to yours. I totally understand what you mean. hearing these from you is like someone explaining my seizures. It is devastating. Mine first started with auditory hallucinations but now it starts with the Deja Vu thing. Sometimes it is accompanied by a train of racing thoughts. I hope your situation has gotten better now.

I'm 55, writing from Italy. I've tried to describe this stuff for 40 years. Those 'crisis' started when I was 15, in 1979. They went on for 5 or 6 years, then stopped for a while and came back when I was 24. After a couple of years they were gone. Sometimes I still can 'smell' them coming, but they don't. I seem to remember a parrot and and a white corridor, the feeling of deja vu was unpleasant but I had to go through it all, there was something irresistible. After each crisis (sometimes 4 or 5 every day) I felt exhausted and sweaty and all the 'dreamy images' were instantly impossible for me to remember. I'm very touched by your video: after 40 years I've found someone able to tell my story. Thank you, and sorry for my bad english.

@@isabels2973 if this is anything like what I have, it’s definitely not anxiety! I can actually feel the misfiring in my head. It tingles and tightens up in my temples and goes across the forehead. Is it triggered by anxiety, ptsd, abuse, head injuries? Possibly! Although it’s not anxiety alone! Definitely neuro and misfiring! I’ve had two separate , 2yrs apart, 7 day 24 hr EEGs that shows it.

You did a wonderful job explaining the deja vu seizures. I've had to live with them and Jamius vu seizures for over 40 yrs. but then my neurologist told me that the moment I started to feel any type of seizure start up I was to tighten up all the muscles in my body and make my hands into tight fists for a few seconds and if I did it fast enough it would stop the seizure and take my word it has stopped many of these seizures so give it a try. I wish you and everyone out there only the best it's time for the world to wake up and learn about epilepsy and how we are normal everyday people just like them.

i suddenly get deja vu and a sudden roller coaster feeling that makes me feel nauseous and hot for a minute. while it happens i kinda stop in my tracks. the tiles on my floor and sometimes the lighting in the room or the smell might trigger me. it feels like im put into a dream (but i cant even remember when i had the dream or if i even had it). it goes away after 2 minutes at the most but after i have it i try thinking about what actually happened and i cant describe it to anyone. the 2 worst parts are the nausea and the fact that i feel i cant really go to the doctor and get a proper treatment if the doctor is incompetent and that itll get worse and i lose my memory and stuff

I’ve been struggling.. for soo soo long. I got diagnosed with Idiopathic Epilepsy [tonic clonic epilepsy] at age 14 and I’m now 26. I was seizure free for 5 years thinking I was one of the special ones to grow out of the dam Illness. I just recently started having my episodes again. What I get before my episodes are Dej ja vu / auras.. they scare the living crap out of me. You described them perfectly and to hear someone say it makes me feel a little better. I’ve talked to some others with epilepsy and they don’t get what I get and it made me feel so out of place an so confused. These auras have been happening more an more recently and makes me feel like a zombie.. like I’m in another world. Thank you so much for sharing this takes a lot to do ❤ I hope you’re doing well

I absolutely have this too. It's impossible to explain, it feels strange yet soothing in a strange way I'll sometimes see people from my past when it goes deep ( not every time) and I'll recognize them when it's happening but not after it ends I know I recognized someone but not who it was. Sometimes hours later I'll have a horrible headache, it took me a long time to realize they were connected. I always say to my wife, that deja vu thing is happening even though it's not deja vu it's the closest way I can explain it. I don't get seizures but I do suffer from vertigo. I wonder if it's related. I really like how you said injected into a dream. Thank you for making this video 😊

I understand this euphoric sense you describe. For years I always called them “strange episodes” but I felt familiar with the images I was seeing. Wasn’t until I had a tonic clonic that it all made sense. I tell people I’m being visited from another dimension 😁

Thanks for sharing. I have these experiences too, although thankfully nothing further than partial seizures but can relate to how you describe it. For me i can feel it coming on and can’t stop it and almost willingly try and make it happen which it’s strange in itself. it’s very much like deja vu, but more like I’m remembering a very vivid dream or an old movie or tv programme which I’ve been inserted into, and I’m trying to understand it and then it starts to fade and after I can’t rememberer it. It’s then followed by a strong sweet smell sensation and I feel nauseous and totally out of it. When I get my episodes I tend to have 3 or 4 in a day, but it only seems to happen to me once or twice a year. I don’t know what brings it on, but it’s maybe when I’m feeling stressed, haven’t had enough sleep or feeling down. It kinda wipes me out for a couple of days and gives me pounding headaches. Once I had an episode whilst at work and someone asked me a question and I wanted to speak but physically couldn’t. It’s so hard describing this to people so thanks for the video
