I really hate how fishing "experts" say you need to spend $300 for a reel and $200 for a rod to go fishing. Dont get me started about $50 for line. These budget stores are great for the casual fisherman.

Yeah if you just want to fish you can for sure save a lot of money, but if you have a specific technique in mind it does help to buy gear you know will get the job done. For instance I’m setting up a big swim bait combo, so I have to know that my rod and reel can handle the torque of a big fish, as well as the pressure of throwing a 1+Oz lure. Tht combo I have spent more money on than any other, but it’s because it has to do something specific and I’d rather buy something that’s got a higher price tag but is known for taking the a use vs a budget option that doesn’t have that record.

Thank you. I was used to casting with the right hand then switching the rod to the left. Watching you for a minute made my fishing with lures a lot more fluid casting and reeling with the same grip.

I bought 2 of the baitcasters from Temu, $13 and $16. Mono on 1, braid on other. Had to tweak line tension a few times to get it right, but would expect than on any new reel. Two setups for price of one is a win for me.

The Lews Infinity baitcasters are also good. I have a orange XFISH one and it is smooth as heck. The most smooth reels I ever owned and I have had it near 2 years now. I will never get rid of it. I got it on sale for 40 dollars and at the time I should have bought the other two that were on the rack. They usually sell for 98 dollars at Walmart. And it has a medium heavy rod. Excellent budget rod and reel even for regular price.

After watching all these rod and reel challenges I’m convinced that it doesn’t matter the rod or reel you buy. It matter the type of lures you use and how you move it. The fish don’t care about the rod and reel the only thing they see is what you cast in the water. And if what you cast don’t move or look how they like they won’t bite. You could probly use your hand as long as you move it right 😂 unless they are starving then they won’t care they’ll eat anything 😂

If you are a casual fisherman then cheap is the way to go. When you are a serious fisherman you know you need a reel that will get the job done time after time where as the cheaper reels will not. I paid $300 for a shimano chronarch 35 years ago and I am still using it today. Remember you get what you pay for.

I’m the ultimate budget fisherman !!! I fish Souygaylang reels $39.99 9 + 1 SS bearings 8.1 : 1 $49 Psicifun Rods $9 braid to PLine leader and catch the crap out of bass with no issues with casting distance or fish handling problems… I even have #65 line on one for my punch rod which is $89 😎. ……. Also have the same brand Spinning Reels So. Ya like to see that challenge / Side by side…. Since I’m a RAIDERS FAN .. The Silver & Black RAIDERS COLORS for the win

Good video..I bought one the Ozark reels 5 years ago and I give it to whoever goes fishing with me and it has never messed up or failed!!! Not the best but definitely worth the money...

I have caught thousands of fish. I have my same Walmart rod and real from the 90’s. Sometimes in small creeks I just use the spool of line.

Dammit LoJo!!!!! I got hooked on watching your channel and the shenanigans... then this old school walleye, perch and muskie fisherman decided to give baitcasting and bass another go. It's an addiction. The deep V hull is up for sale to get a bass boat and every puddle of water must be explored for potential bass. PB for largemouth went from 2lbs to 6lbs this weekend.

I bought the ozark trail one once when I just really needed a new reel and the store didn't have much in stock. I thought it was great for a few days. My the end of my family reunion trip i was on, The handle kept coming loose. I drove back home and replaced the locknut but i noticed the nut wasn't the problem. The main shaft was in worse shape than the locknut. I thought ozark trail knocked it out of the park till an basically unreplaceable part stripped out in about 4 days of light fishing.

Doesn't matter how cheap your gear is. It can catch anything. You get what you pay for. I go around $400 on combo spinning or bait because of durability. 8 years later, I'm still carrying the same gear. As long I got the itch for new gear. Usually, there are always new fishing men or women where you can test their combo really quick

I found a good rule of thumb is if you can't spend $100 on a batecast savev our get a spin real . The only exception is the black max . You will still want to upgrade after a few years

I like the comparisons and proves you can have fun on any budget! I would like to see a more equal reel challenge a $15 dollar reel isn't going to meet up to a $45 dollar reel but it did hold up. So would an equal cost temu reel surpass a store bought of the same value?

That’s lews lite spin is money 💰. Big recommend if you need an ultralight reel. You can even use it on a medium/lite rod with some >10lbs braid
