1986 was a big year for me discovering college radio. That was the year of Yo La Tengo “Ride The Tiger”, The Feelies “The Good Earth”, The Chills “Kaleidoscope World” comp and Sonic Youth “Evol”. A watershed year music-wise. A lot of what you showed was in there, so much great music.

I used to share a house with a guy who was a big Butthole Surfers fan but I've never really listened to them apart from hearing it through his door. A guy I was in a band with in the late nineties shared a house with someone from The Mission. Great T-shirt.

Richie, your quiet ''library'' voice lends much authority to this serious subject. The Butthole Surfers EP, '' Cream Corn From The Socket Of Davis'' was included with my reissue copy of Rembrandt Pussyhorse. The title refers to Sammy Davis Jrs missing eyeball. That EP includes two of the best Butthole songs, ''Moving To Florida'' and ''Comb''. The song, ''Comb'' approximates the sound of a live concert by the band. My fave tune on ''Rembrandt Pussyhorse'' is the cover of ''American Woman'', love how they sneak in a Bo Diddley tremelo guitar part. Bill Laswell is the Mastermind of the awesome, ''Album'' by PIL, he had Lydon fire his current band members and then he assembled the band of top-notch players. I'm still trying to track down a copy of the super- deluxe box set of ''Album''. Check out Randy Newman's oddball cover of Peter Gabriel's ''Big Time''.

I have PIL generic album but hardly ever listen to it I’ll have to pull it again. Date with Elvis might be my favorite cramps. Finally picked up a reissue of atomizer and really liked it. Have you heard blood and chocolate by EC? He vocals are very raw on that one, probably his most Dylan ish album. Frankly Mr shankly is one of my favorite smiths songs haha. Very cool picks, but why so brief? I listen to and watch out of the corner of my eye when cooking/cleaning up, and most of these countdown videos are at least 15 to 30 minutes. You could tell us a bit about what was going on in your life at the time, and cover maybe 25, zipping through the first 5 or ten more quickly if ya want. Just a friendly suggestion. I was in high school in Iowa and my knowledge of music via Trouser Press Record Guide and various magazines, outpaced my access to music and available funds, and I was going insane from the tyranny of MTV and corporate rock radio.
