The Pontiac Tempest, Le Mans, and GTO were different trims on the same platform. The tempest was the base model. The LeMans was the luxury model and the GTO was the muscle car. Pontiac was a division of GM and were known as Ponchos not Mopars which were Chrysler products. Nice video. I like the content.

That is a 1962 Pontiac Tempest (possibly) Lemans manufactured by General Motors. Lemans was a trim package on a Tempest that year. It does not have a transmission, it has a transaxle. Engine to drive shaft and driveshaft to transaxle in the rear. I think my grandmothers had a small shifter lever on the dash.

SIGN. I can agree that you are not a Mopar guy since you appear to think that Chrysler Corp. had Pontiacs in their stable. LeMans was the top trim level of the Tempest model line in 1962. The 4-barrel four banger was not rare. That was the standard engine in the Tempest LeMans for ‘61 - ‘63. That engine was basically one bank of cylinders from the 389 cid engine. In 1964, the GTO came out with a 389 as the standard engine. GTO was the new top of the line of the Tempest model line. 10:36 The Tempest body of 1961 was completely changed in 1964, again in 1966, and still again and ‘68. The 1967 Tempest with the overhead cam straight six was the first new car I ever bought, at age 19. I still think the ‘66 and ‘67 were the best looking years for that model. And the high revving 0HC-6, which had a four barrel and dual exhaust, was a marvel.

Found my '70 El Camino on C-List back in 2013 for $8K. Named it "Non-Legit", came with crate 454 but is not an SS. Found local salvage cowl induction hood and rattle can painted it to match along with SS stripes. Added used SS wheels and lately brand new tires. Getting close to my 10K original budget but this has been an enjoyable useable driver project. Perfectionist whiners would get ulcers and belly aches but I don't care.

That Pontiac slant 4 would be a great project, and the 4 bbl option makes it a good starter. Essentially 1/2 of a 389 V8, it will accept a lot of the V8 performance parts (head, pistons, etc.). I've never seen one but I've heard of guys building these with a head from a 455 and high compression pistons and making decent horsepower. I'd buy the car if it wasn't so far away.

I don't know if Mopar people will be knowledgeable on Pontiacs ,, The LeMans was introduced as the top trim package of the compact-sized Pontiac Tempest toward the end of the 1961 model year on GM's new Y body platform. The Tempest LeMans featured sportier and more luxurious features and standard equipment than the Tempest, including different badging and bucket seats. The trim option was available only on the two-door sedan (pillared coupe) body style. For the 1962 model year, the LeMans remained a trim package that was now also available in the convertible body style, as well as with the 194.5 cu in (3.2 L) inline-four cylinder, 4-barrel carbureted engine. There was no pillarless hardtop body style available in either the Tempest or LeMans.
