Here's my first presentation in front of live audience! I covered:
- Which one hurts more, AC or DC?
- What kills, current or voltage?
- Can we weld with car batteries?

They were laughing at times. I could hear them in the background. I think this was the good presentation from a man who's first language is Iranian. I have tried to tell people many of the things he did about the lethality thing concerning voltage vs current with failed success. But ohms law never lies, neither does capacitive reactance with AC. Your bodies current circuit is effectively a capacitor in parallel with a resistor.

I was there! Front row. The thing that impressed me most was how, when a couple things didn't get as many laughs as you might've expected and it got a bit awkward, you recovered and kept going and didn't let it affect the rest of your presentation. I would have frozen up and become flustered and felt embarrassed, so, I found that kind of inspiring. Comedic timing is much tougher in person, in front of an audience that, for the most part, didn't know anything about you and didn't know what to expect. Most of the crowd spent the whole presentation with a confused look on their faces, not for the content, but because they didn't know if you were serious or joking. Was it rehearsed slapstick or genuine clumsiness and ignorance of electrical dangers? Don't take their silence for boredom or disinterest, it was shock. Lots of very real gasps and people looking around wondering if their lives were in danger. Parents were always kind of leaning towards the door to see if they had to rush their children away. It must've felt tough for you, but for me, in the crowd, it was delightful to see them so squirmy and unsure :). For a first public appearance I thought it was great. Hope you return for next year. Most of your fans were actually people who were busy with their own booths, volunteering, etc, and regretted missing it. It's great to have this recorded to pass along.

Not like Mehdi is a stand-up comedian. It's an entertaining presentation, not a comedy gig. Having funny moments is a collateral effect. It would be weird if the audience cracked up at every mishap. Like you said, most were following the process and trying to understand and imagine how the whole thing worked. Whoever said the audience were assholes are poor observers and their opinions are irrelevant.

I think it puts into perspective where his KZfaq subs are in the world. It doesn't easily translate into being well-known outside the internet. On the other hand I saw a scientist that appeared on Leno who also did a presentation at my college, he was more prepared to work with a live crowd.

Reminds me of when I was much younger at a farm. Whilst everyone was inside, I went out exploring - and tried to climb over the fence into what I believe was the bull enclosure. I didnt see the warning sign since it was overgrown with plants. The charge on the fence seemed to operate in pulses. I managed to get halfway over, touching the metal grille, before it actually zapped me - and it was the most intense full-body pain I've ever felt. My vision blacked out and I just fell in a heap. From that day onwards I've had a fear of electricity. Nothing hurts like electricity does - and I've certainly experienced a lot of other physical trauma in my life (I've even had a Lumbar puncture for a slipped spinal disc). Right down to your bones, like being burned from the inside out and every muscle in your body cramps and constricts at the same time. I had heart issues for weeks after the fence incident, though I never saw a doctor about it. But I admire what Mehdi does here. Its informative, fun and entertaining.

Mehdi, I gotta say that was a great presentation. I had no idea you could weld with a couple of car batteries! Also, I couldn't speak in front of any kind of audience, I commend you for that.

Great performance! I think the audience could have used a little more education of what AC and DC actually are, and also what it means to have an open or closed circuit. Perhaps that's why they had such a small response to your presentation. I think it was great, though. Congrats on the live performance and may many more follow!

It is actually ABSOLUTELY safe to look at the welding process from few meters away. There is a chart available online that specifies what is the distance and how long can you look absolutely safely.

Honestly I'm gonna apologise on behalf of Calgary cause as someone who was living there for 2 years I have top be honest everything in the city went to shit about a year ago and people are just depressing there. You should have got a lot more applause as you just deserve it for your bravery up there and the recovery for every fuck up was so smooth I didn't even see it as an accident I saw it as a comedic stunt as though you were just doing another video. Great job on the performance, Mehdi.

Excellent presentation man, tough audience tho. Probably quite hard to display humor when they aren't exactly sure whats going on, or whether or not you're joking.

I got my first experience with voltage/amps as a five year old. Sticking a metal nail into a 230V socket holding it with a metal scissor (cause in my five year old head that felt like a secure thing to do), and grounding myself to the linoleum floor. It was both enlightening and electrifying at the same time. But I hated those curls I got for decades. In any case - awesome channel you got. Keep up the funny and educating efforts!

Okay.. so why is it that I cannot weld with right out from the 220 V wall socket? Is it because the current is limited by the 15 amp fuses in the distribution box?
@killimig99
@killimig99 9 жыл бұрын
aszendi May be a late response, but the reason you cannot weld with 220 v AC, is because you need DC to properly weld. The electrons in a DC circuit all travel the same way, which is needed to transport the molten metal from the welding electrode, to the material you are welding. Ac on the other hand, travels bach and forth, thus just throwing molten metal around, instead of streaming to the other metal :)

killimig99 Actually you can weld with AC but only with a speciallized machine that's made for DC or AC welding, and the right welding rod for AC. When I was in school, we had Dual Mode Machines, that let us run Positive DC, Negative DC, and AC. In the end, its more about amps then voltage for welding

killimig99 Not true at all. AC arc welding is the most common form of welder found in homes and garages. Only professional TIG and stick uses DC.
