Starting Jan. 1, 2025, all public elementary, secondary and post-education schools in Louisiana must display the Ten Commandments in every classroom.
Critics vowed to challenge the law in court, calling it unconstitutional and warning that it will lead to religious coercion of students.
“The First Amendment promises that we all get to decide for ourselves what religious beliefs, if any, to hold and practice, without pressure from the government,” the Louisiana chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, the Freedom From Religion Foundation and other groups said in a joint statement Wednesday. “Politicians have no business imposing their preferred religious doctrine on students and families in public schools.”
The law requires a context statement to accompany the commandments, positioning the text as “a prominent part of American public education” from the late 17th century through the late 20th century. Schools have to use donated posters or spend donated money, rather than public funds, to purchase the displays.

That's bringing logic into this. Anyone who advocates for putting religious text like this into public education isn't somebody who is logical in any way. To them, their faith is more important than reason. It doesn't matter that the 10 commandments are clearly about religion and clearly are biased towards a specific faith. It doesn't matter that presenting this clearly is a violation of the separation of church and state our country was founded upon. It doesn't matter that it encroaches on freedom of religion to have this kind of religious idolatry displayed in schools. All of those kinds of arguments require you to actually care about good reasoning after all, and not blind faith.

Sheltering children from the existence of other people is not productive nor helps them in the long term. Even then, that part of curriculum is only available in much more liberal areas, more so with in the practice of progressive education (Montessori, Waldorf, and other forms of education based on a more personalized curriculum based off of child development and theorists that studied children) your conceptions are largely based on fear mongering sensationalism. "As a Christian, I find Oklahoma's decision to mandate the Ten Commandments in every classroom deeply troubling. Forcing God's word upon everyone, especially those who do not share the same beliefs, risks alienating rather than inspiring. Perhaps offering optional Bible study classes or allowing parents to decide would be more respectful of diverse beliefs. It's disheartening that such actions seem driven more by political posturing than genuine faith. Why wasn't this pursued during the previous administration? This move risks portraying Christianity as coercive rather than inviting, contrary to Jesus' teachings of compassion and understanding. Jesus himself challenged those who imposed religious beliefs on others, opting instead to forge a new covenant based on love and acceptance. It's important to remember that accepting Jesus doesn't mean you can do whatever you want without consequences. Every action has repercussions here on earth. True goodness comes from the heart transformed by Jesus, not from being compelled by rigid rules. God values our free will; forcing beliefs on others goes against His intent. My heart aches for those who uphold the old covenant and support this new bill. I pray for them daily. Instead of imposing our beliefs on others, we should show love and compassion. It's crucial to distinguish between hating sin and hating the sinner. If others reject our message, we should respect their choice, trusting God to work in their hearts. Planting seeds of faith should be done with love, allowing God to nurture them to fruition."

After that, I got to thinking about how I would react as a teacher. Here are a few questions I would look to answers to, that might be interesting. * Must it be visible at all times? * While there are rules about the size of the paper, are there rules about the size of letters? * How about the font used for the text? Can I use windings? How about braille? * Must it be written in modern English? Can I use Latin or Hebrew? (those two languages chosen for their historical relation to the text) How about any other modern language? * Are there any rules about other lists of religious laws? Could I hang the commandments next to lists of rules from Buddhism, Islam, Voodoo, Confucianism, etc. While the first few might be considered attempting to obfuscate the display, and therefor against the law, the last one would be very interesting.

Thank you. I'm in the same boat. I don't care if someone believes that the big bang was caused by the unusual death of a cosmic hamster, so long as they don't use it as an excuse to cause harm.

Hum... Then we might well get rid of math, since it was created by Christians, huh? Or how about every university in America, since it's Christian?

I feel like the amount of work and commitment that Natalie puts into her work with no guaranty that it would get the eyeballs and money, is something that can only be done by a person who simultaneously deeply cares and also says "fu*k it". It's very hard to be that kind of person and it's the kind of person the world needs the most.

As someone that has studied a lot of theology its 1/2 a pact with God, 1/2 a pact with humanity. honoring your father and mother is still on God, you honor them by honoring God, even if it means praying for patience to deal with your psycho parents. .

@@Gee-xb7rt still, some parents should not be honored at all. parents who treat their children worse than cattle.

@@chongwillson972 this is true but is also why its a totally different definition of honor, its more like on veterans day we honor veterans and really the bigger picture, the country they fought for. Its like spare the rod means something else entirely, its about the rod of wisdom, a parent that doesn't teach their child to be wise spoils them, they never learn how to adult, basically.

The problem isn’t religion just existing in government run schools. The problem is that they’re making it a legal requirement. That is unconstitutional because of the direct endorsement from the government of a certain religion legitimizing it and delegitimizing other religions

I agree. Guess what though… Moses is not the law giver, God is. But there is a thing called separation of church and state. If we keep this up, they will be making it a law to keep Sunday holy and we’ll become a tyrannical, theocracy punishing dissenters as present and history shows us, theocracies always do…. Wait, the book of Revelation tell us that IS going to happen. While a government should never mandate worship and enforce a specific religion, they WILL, as a means to try to end immorality and increasing ecological decline. Now God says to obey the laws of the land, as long as they don’t don’t contradict the law of God. And the law of God says in the 4th commandment that 7th day is the Sabbath of the Lord and the only day we should keep holy. Not by force, but choosing to do so in love for our Creator. Jesus loves you, and wants to save you from the penalty of our sins, and is coming back soon. He only asks for loving surrender of your heart so he can reshape it. But he will not force.
