Remember when cooking that smell is the first thing an opposing force will notice over long distances. Smoke may not be seen but can be smelled as well as what you're cooking. Use of any fire and/or cooking needs to be as rapid as possible. Something else that needs stressed is hand signaling/sign language/Morse code. Silence is your best friend so learn skills to maintain that silence.

The scenario you describe is ultra hard. If you are forced out of your home into nature you would be hunter gatherer from 0-100. Depending on how many people are forced to do the same the game population might dwindle extremely fast. It is cool and useful to have bug out skills with minimal gear, but you better pray to be able to fall back at least to a 16th century farmer existence rather than hunter gatherer with millions of others. But yes more SERE and ultra basic survival just in case our plane crashes or our weekend hike goes side ways :))) love you all

brazilian army trick: carry a drink powder packet (ie TANG or koolaid) taped to your chemical purifying tablets. helps with the taste (i dont mind that much but some cant stomach it) and gives a small amount of sugar/sodium which are in short supply out there.

1 or 2 drops of 2% tincture of iodine per quart, depending on turbidity, does the same thing as tablets. Wait 30 min. for 1 or 60 for 2 drops. Always rinse cap and threads, etc.

Something i would recommend when in a covert survival situation is to always save some of your charcoal whenever possible to make a water filter down the trail. It's not perfect but it does help.

Some water filters will filter out the iodine taste so you can make decent coffee. The Dakota fire pit will keep your shelter warm at night if you put a rock lid on it. Place your shelter over the pit and the rock will keep your shelter from catching on fire. There was a rock the right sized close to the pit you were digging. Fire tabs will start a fire also. Especially if all you have is wet wood. GeoPress looks good. 1.25 micron filter gets most of what you'll run into. Viruses are sub micron though so if you're concerned about them you'll still need to boil or iodine. Millbank bags are interesting too. They get the big chunks.

Good video, you're going to need a bigger flask! If you're using a Dakota fire hole for stealth reasons then lay out a cloth or poncho next to where you're going to dig. Cut out a plug of vegetation (if any) for both holes and place on poncho and then dig your holes placing the dirt on the poncho as well. When you're done with it, refill the holes in reverse, tapping down the dirt as you go and then replace the plugs! If you're having too much smoke, then your wood is too damp (don't use wood laying directly on the ground) or you're not getting enough air flow so fan or blown into the bottom/ inlet hole. Thank you for emphasizing getting enough water as you can get dehydrated much easier than you think and if you're not urinating much or your urine is dark yellow then you're dehydrated!

@@alfanika2934 Thats why you dont build a fire when people are actively searching for you and then you only build a fire when you are going to die of exposure without one. In a wilderness survival setting fire is a given in a military survival setting as this video title suggest fire is an all around bad idea unless see above

One last thing-repelling. Who all has their air assault badges? You should be retraining regularly so you can pass on that knowledge, people don't consider that in some instances even in the U. S. you may have to walk 20 miles around steep cliffs to get to your destination vs being able to repel down and climb up these cliffs saving valuable time and energy.

When I joined the army reserves, TA , in the UK, many , many, years ago, we were told that when fuel tabs were first used in the Korean War they were unscented. Troops started using the fuel tablets in hunkered down dugouts during the harsh Korean winters. This resulted in carbon monoxide poisoning casualties. Therefore the distinct smell was added to fuel tablets to make folk aware of the dangers. Perhaps someone else can confirm this.

@@alfanika2934 The "problem" was adequately answered by the esteemed British academic Dr Fiona Hill , Chancellor of the University of Durham, Senior Fellow of the Brookings Institute , member of The Harvard Board of Overseers. She was presenting a high-brow lecture , one of the BBC Radio 4, Lord Reith Commemorative Lectures. The subject was "Roosevelt's 4 Freedoms of 1945". She said , after living in Russia for two years, . . . " After studying Putin and following his career for decades I have come to this conclusion; . . . "THE MAN IS A ARSE" ! . . . Make noise, bears generally avoid people and a surprised bear or momma with cub is very dangerous! Try to make yourself look larger but don't charge the bear because if it calls your bluff then you're about to be recycled! Hopefully you carry bear spray and/or a firearm just in case the bear is sick or very hungry (we're not normally prey). Also, I always use a stout walking stick (and a handgun) because they're very helpful in the Rockies and striking a tree or the ground with your stick will get the bears attention; they usually avoid fights when possible! Last thing, never run from a bear, if it hasn't noticed you and its not heading toward you, then be still and quiet until its been out-of-sight for at least ten minutes. Their sight isn't supposed to be as good as a humans but their sense of smell and hearing are much better than ours! If the bear's heading toward you, then start making some noise low at first then gradually increase so the bear will know that you're getting closer and has the opportunity to run away. Remember, a bear can outrun a horse for a short distance, you can't! And never follow a bear because if they sense you they might ambush you and then your chance of survival is almost zero! Remember, you're the visitor and they live there so they have the right of way!
