TEN MORE YEARS: The Marvel vs Capcom 3 Story

Due to it being released over a decade ago, Capcom and Eighting's joint effort 'Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds' was the beloved return of a series that was always facing the possibility of never getting any sequels due to legal issues.
Marvel vs Capcom 3 (and its update Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3) is my favourite fighting game of all time, so I wanted to create a longer video discussing its origins, its heyday, and where we are today.
I can't cover every single tournament, player, event, etc., because that just isn't realistic, but I do hope that the historical context I provide (Marvel vs Capcom 2's passionate fanbase in the USA) gives you an idea of why Marvel 3 was so popular right out of the gate.

I remember, like yesterday, watching live KBR winning the 2015 Evo! As a brazilian south-american sister, and as a Hulk player, that run felt amazing and special to watch and rejoice!!! Ah, the time when Justin Wong entered a tournament with Iron Fist AND WON it was trully priceless to see!

Amazing video. I was proud of being part of the SoCal scene. We were known for having the low tier heroes. While most of us don’t play much anymore, we still get together from time to time to run it back.

The passion that this scene has for our game is nothing short of incredible -- it’s so infectious, in fact, that it literally brought myself and Ambercules back to the game after we had seemingly left it behind all these years ago. Now she’s running the Brisbane monthly tournaments and I’m winning them! The Brisbane scene stands in the very tall shadows cast by titans like Baxter and Omega, but give it time and I’ll be ready to carry on the legacy of the white boy playing Magneto 😂 Great video, Khan. This was a sick video! Re-living all these memories of watching evo over the years, specifically marvel was a joy ride. Damn I miss playing this game with my friends and the local community we had here in the UK. It was the first game that made me join tournament play and met some amazing people playing it

Boy did this game have a disappointing and rocky start. When it launched as vanilla the game was missing some key features such as spectator mode, signal player content and obvious characters like Megaman. To make matters even worse, Capcom held back Jill Valintine and Shuma Gorath as disc lock content. Eventually Capcom ended up losing the Marvel license due to Disney buying Marvel so Capcom was forced to take Jill and Shuma off the online shops which lead to those characters getting banned from tournaments. The whole PR aspect was a mess as well. The producer would go out and lie his ass off about how certain characters like Nemesis and Strider couldn't be in the game for inane reasons. He also claimed that spectator mode couldn't work for a game like MVC. To show distain that Capcom had for the fans, a random PR guy would address the omission of Megaman by literally saying: "We don't owe you Megaman." This was during a time where Capcom believed that their fanboys/shills were the majority of the sales which almost lead to Capcom's demised. Now that the game is on PC and fans finally made the game good by adding in characters that should've been in the game for free.

Marvel vs. Capcom 1 was one of the first arcade games I remember ever playing. Only character I knew at the time was Spider-Man (I was like 4 or 5 at the time for context) but it looked sick as hell. Fast forward and the rare times my family went to a place with an arcade, my first instinct would be to find a Marvel 2 machine. I'd have been 15 when Marvel 3 came out and I was ecstatic. Passed on Ultimate due to being a broke high school boy but it was a VERY good time. Never competed but MvC is THE reason I like fighting games at all.

Not releasing a DLC upgrade to Ultimate, damaged this games momentum greatly. The tsunami is just an excuse. They obviously would have released the characters one by one or in chunks if the tsunami never happened, but nothing was stopping them from releasing a large, full Ultimate DLC upgrade for the original game. Everyone who bought the original at full price was punished for that purchase, and therefore I refused to buy the sequel until years later when the price was equivalent to a reasonably priced DLC upgrade. Publishers need to stop punishing and taking advantage of their best customers. It drives them away, as both Capcom and Sega should have learned over the years. edit: Considering the tournament scene and Evo being cancelled for 2020, it's just crazy that Capcom haven't considered a further DLC for UMvC3 to upgrade the netcode, add crossplay and a few new features to justify the costs involved. a $5 to $10 DLC would be lapped up by fans of the game back in 2020-2021, as the game was still in active use. Oh well!

they should do a remake of this game with much more characters no body cares about story mod just more fighters like 100 in total....still enjoy this game is a classic. I think all fighting games should play 3 on 3 on every fighting games modern games with all good graphics but they are boring like mk1 tekken 8, they are boring imagine tag team or 3 on 3 characters will be fun but companies are stupid and they don't realize how mvc3, tekken x street fighter , dead or alive 3 and tekken tag team are fun to play til this day but hopefully they'll learn and give us something unique with good graphics .

That's hilarious. Didn't it set the record last year at EVO for the most entrants ever for any Marvel fighting game 😂😂. Not to mention Frosty Faustings 2024 umvc3 had more entrants than DBFZ and almost as many entrants as KOFXV and Tekken 7 and this was before Tekken 8 released.
