Hello. Left Guildford early 90s . Remember GULSHAN RESTAURANT on north street . I am ROY who run the restaurant next to LADY DIANA’S FAVOURITE SHOPPING STORE . my grandfather still there . Misse Guildford . Peace up 💛 .

I was born there in St. Luke's hospital, always remember the smell of the coffee shop on the high street. Later when I joined the army I came back and was part of the troop that built the bridge over the by-pass for the County show. My granddad worked in the Dennis special vehicles factory and my mum was a nanny for the radio presenter David Dunhill living in Burpham whose uncle was Alfred Dunhill of the Dunhill cigarettes. My grandparents had moved down from Yorkshire to Deal in Kent to my Great Uncle who was a coal merchant, my grandad didn't like it so got a job in the Dennis factory moved to Guildford. A few years later when my dad came back from India after partition he met my mum and they got married in 1953. During my school days at Ewell Castle School in Ewell near Epsom, we went on a trip to see still being constructed Guildford Cathedral around 1964 and I paid for a brick at 2s/6d while I was there for finishing the building works that went on well until 1965. I have not been down to Guildford since I was in the army and now live in Chester.

i have been looking at Guildford in surrey or Beaconsfield in buckinghampshire but everytime I search anything about guildford I get the surrey times website in bold letters saying guildford is surreys most dangerous area are you able to give any insight into this I don't want to be somewhere with groups of chavs hanging around and I don't mean kids in nike tracksuits i mean the kind that will rob you if you where a nice watch or selling drugs in the town center or gangs and being attacked if your out past 7pm type area I'm moving from manchester where crime like this happens everyday only 2 month ago someone was stabbed to death on my street for owing 5 pounds debt

That’s such a lovely and accurate presentation of the town, by comparison to other you tubers. It is amazing how Andersons resisted open thought such a struggle that we all know. As living in Kingston at the moment, I admit I would move there the soonest. Thank you!

I was a founder pupil at George Abbot School in 1959, commuting from my parents home in Farnham. Stag Hill motors (No longer exists) was on the Guildford bypass close to the junction with the A31 "Hogs Back" road It was a Jaguar dealership owned by Michael Collins, No, not the one that went to the moon, but team mate of Mike Hawthorn the F1 world champion. Mike owned the Jaguar dealers in Farnham and was an Honourary govourener of the Weydon Lane school in Farnham.

I am about to plan visiting Guilford next May.I am from Argentina ( sorry for my awful english ) and I am very fond of England,specially towns and small villages too ( I had the privilege of visiting The Cotswolds,Chentelham,Winchester,Oxford,Bath,Salisbury,Gloucester...,York !! Hi Richard, Even though I've lived in the Guildford area all my life, now living in Godalming it's nice to be reminded what a beautiful,Interesting town Guildford is also sadly Piers Morgan was born in Mount Alvernia in 1965 but I can see why you left him out.......Cheers!

My daughter just started at Surrey Uni. so we have been going down each weekend. We love the place. Fab town , Lots of Pubs and Restaurants, cafe's. Surround countryside is Beautiful and a great shopping centre.

@@RichardHodgsonGuildford yes! I miss the area. In the US now. I remember the model boating pond, High Street clock, the castle, among other things. A privilege to have lived there!

Born in Mount Alvernia nursing home. Attended Holy Trinity primary, then RGS. Lived in Bushy Hill Drive. Played up on Merrow Downs and fished near Burpham Lock. Played a few games with Merrow Cricket Club. For a summertime treat our family would walk to the beer garden of the Horse and Groom in the evening. Father would have a brown ale, mother would have a bitter lemon sofa, and we kids would have a lemon squash. Emigrated to 🇦🇺in September 1965. Hope to visit before my times up.

@2:35- Weybrook Park and Weylea Farm were built mid 80’s I think. Around 84 / 85 and at the same time Sainsbury’s was built in Burpham. I remember they were still building them when I started going to George Abbot. By the way - nice snapshot of what life is like in Guildford in the 2020’s 👍. This will be one of those videos people will look back on in 50 years time and say “I remember that!”

Thanks. Many restaurants in Chapel St. Olivios in Quarry St is popular. The best hotel is the Angel, in the High St. It's a very old coaching inn, used by travellers from London to Portsmouth as a half way rest stop for their horses. The stables are now quaint shops. Look out for the Fallen Angel, at the hotel too!

@@RichardHodgsonGuildford Hi Sir, We are looking for a property, basically a house, with a reasonable rent which can accommodate 4-5 people, as I have a group 5 people who are aiming to join Uni of Surrey. We are struggling alot to find such property. It would be a great help.

You could approach landlords direct. You can apply for a list of HMO landlords from the Guildford Borough Council website. Expect to pay around £2,500 for a house to accommodate 5 people.

The main thing you forget to told about is that it's only 30 mins away from london which is a great benefit for the residents and people living in guildford.

Thanks for your comment. There is a section about location including a statement that Guildford is between London and Portsmouth. There is a shot of train times both departure and arrival, on the timeboards at Guildford station. Travel time to London Waterloo is typically 38 minutes on the fastest trains travelling via Woking.
