When the new Tenba Solstice Landscape Photography Backpack was first announced a few months ago I was immediately intrigued as this camera bag was designed with the outdoor enthusiast and landscape photographer in mind. Now the Solstice lineup isn't meant to compete against many of the larger style landscape photography bags from the likes of F-stop and Shimoda, but more so against the mid-size market similar to that of the Lowepro Flipside or Protactic or even the Mindshift Gear Backlight or Trailscape bags. This is an interesting segment as it seems that the majority of recent landscape photography bags are catered to the larger style 40L+ capacities. In this episode, I unbox the Tenba Solstice 24L (black) and discuss my first impressions. I don't want to spoil the video, but my favorite aspect of this bag turned out to be something I never would have expected.

I had the first bag Tenba made in college, an orange one. Still have it and used it daily for 10 years. It was revolutionary. Built with materials like a backpack and not a heavy leather bag of the day. Half the weight and modern velcro closures. Their stuff is built to last.

I’m using the 10L sling version. Holds a X-T5, 10-24, 18-55, 60 Macro and 70-300 with a TC-14 attached, less than 10 lbs, great bag And not taxing to carry!

Mark, one way to ensure you do not slice the contents of the box is to slice the 2 short ends first. Then lift one end with your finger placed AWAY from where you're slicing, say an inch or 2 from the taped short end, and slice across the length of the box. That way you reduce any chance of the knife slicing into the contents of the box.

Another way is to place your index near the tip on the back of the blade as a stopper, like they do to skin animals.

Hi Mark, did you do a follow up video on this bag? I like the side pockets of this bag compared to a lot of the other hiking bags I see on the market like F-Stop etc

Mark Denney cool. Looking forward to it... took me a few tries to find a mid-sized pack and settled on the F-Stop Guru 25L with the small shallow ICU. Almost got the Backlight 26L though.

Stein Tan The Guru is a nice bag as well. The mid sized market seems to be a bit underserved for the landscape photography genre as most adventure style bags are 40L +. Makes finding a good one hard sometimes.

when the bag is FREE it is NOT 100 % unbiased, but at least you said it was Free

He was pretty transparent- pointed out some negatives. At the end of the day- it's a bag. It works. I tried one on in the camera store today- felt like nice quality if that matters. I am 100% unbiased because, I really don't care one way or the other and I agree with his review. The 12L is nice too if you only have 2 lenses. It's lighter and only around $155 as well.

Great review but first things first..where did you get your "be hippy" shirt? Will the 24L fit in overhead or under the seat on a plane? Debating 20L or 24L. Thanks!
