I'm officially jealous. I did a demo Ride on a Tenere 700. Loved it. Had roll on power no matter what gear or speed you were going. I could be in sixth gear puttering along at 30 mph and if I rolled on the throttle it just took off like it was in third. Only thing I noticed that I was a bit iffy about was the display had a bit of vibration coming through it. Not really an issues though as long as it holds up

Yeah I'm sure they are. The other thing I realized is that the holes are intentionally not on centered with the bolt nubs. I think they must have scanned the cases and just sort of expanded them to make covers. Because of that and the material thickness, the holes can't be centered since the whole thing is "scaled up" if you will.

Don't apologize for being honest. I know R&G gave you those engine covers for free, but being honest is what makes the review more accurate, and better for the potential customers watching this video. My impression is that R&G didn't spend enough time on Q&A on these covers and with your help and feedback it sounds like they just about got it. I appreciate your comment about getting dirt behind them as I was thinking the same thing about them. Looking forward to seeing how they hold up and your thoughts on them after a season or half season of riding!

It's a good idea to run a bead of silicon around the inside edge of the covers when fitting them, stops mud and dirt getting behind them and then scratching up your engine casings. use high temp silicone or gasket maker

Went with the tripleclamp moto version because, a) Canadian made b)prefit stainless grommets. Great service from them when one of those grommets pulled through plastic on install. Only fellow Canucks will get the Bubbles "de briss" pronunciation. Trust you'll be fitting a real bash plate by the time your foot is free to ride. Check out the Camel ADV gut guard if you haven't already. Bomber piece of Canadian made farkle.

I really do like the metal insert idea, I wish R&G would have done that too but it seemed like the plastic ones worked fine. I'm not sure what I'll do about the skid plate yet, I do like the Camel ADV one but I'm not sure I'll really need that much protection for the type of stuff I ride.

Tenere isn't blessed with abundant ground clearance. Combined with low linkage & softer suspension & the belly definitely needs better protection than the stock tinfoil for anything beyond basic gravel roading. Better safe than oily!

I bought both to compare and hands down Tripleclamp is much better quality, R&G needs to improve on these plastic inserts and furniture bolts. And funny enough it arrived by post to Scotland quicker from Canada then from England :D

Wow, you had quite the struggle. Mine went on in less than 1/2 hour. As for the needed 2 shorter right side screws, I just reused 2 of the screws I took out from the other side. Luckily they are the corrects length.

This video is definitely a puzzler to me. So after you do a sandy,dirty water,ultra muddy ride you remove the plastic protective cover to clean out the space between the plastic and the case? And what are the torque specs are they different for the compression of the plastic? so this increased "flexibility is the distance between the plastic cover and the alloy OEM case cover?are there many millimeters between the two?

Ah yes this reminds me of the Outback Motortek upper and lower crash bars that after 4.5 hours I threw in the towel and started to remove them which took another 2.5 hours with careful attention to packaging them nicely and putting all my tools away . Still waiting for my refund on those . Got to call them again Monday . They were nice about it and I learned about tolerance stacking . At the time they sold 150 sets and I was the 3rd guy that had issues with them . Think I will go with Tourtech or Altrider for crash bars etc for my Tenere 700 . Oh nice color , looks nice like mine !

@@wg1980hr Right on . I have Touratech upper and lower crash bars also . Just got my bike back from its 3rd trip to the dealership and I think they fixed it this time with a new battery . Just going to wait a couple weeks before I do anything . I really would like to get the B&B bash plate , it's friggin bulletproof looking and I like how they weld around the bolt heads as to protect them . But they don't look like they will work with the Touratech crash bars so I might go with Camel ADV . I must get one that has the rear linkage protection .

Loving your videos ! Personally these seem a bit dodgy to fit on a new bike. I see warranty issues if anything went wrong on fitting. I can see the pros to having them but a decent set of lower crash bars for me Also will they make bike run hotter without the airflow over case ?

@SwankyCatProductions 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you David! Yeah I'm not to sure how Yamaha would feel about these. It's nice to have them but I'm not so sure I'd go with them if I had to do things over again. Lower crash bars might be better since they'll also protected the coolant lines that come off the water pump.

I installed my covers yesterday (Tripleclamp). Some of the bolts were harder to get threaded and tightened just as you were experiencing. Could this be because of them having loctite on them from factory? I had to do like you did, use the ratchet to get them into place.
@SwankyCatProductions
@SwankyCatProductions 3 жыл бұрын
My guess is that it's just an alignment issue. The only bolt my service manual shows to have loctite on is the bottom bolt on the left side which I noticed did seem different.
@JohannesDalenMC
@JohannesDalenMC 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your answer. According to the manual the two bolts that holds the bracket that guides the clutch cable are loctited. They were both pretty full of it too. But that wasnt my problem, that same bracket wasnt properly alligned. Very glad I figured it out!

So jumping way off topic, how did you decide on your 1st dual sport? Looks like you may have some background with family that possibly helped you decide. Why the 650 over say a smaller lighter 4 or 500?
@SwankyCatProductions
@SwankyCatProductions 4 жыл бұрын
Actually my first dual sport was a 08 DRZ 400. Before that my wife and I purchased a KLR 250 for her that I spent a little time on. Both were great bikes but weren't much fun on the hour ride to the trails I ride up north so I sold both and bought my KLR 650.
@jimriley2812
@jimriley2812 4 жыл бұрын
SWANKY CAT got ya. I’m having a tough time deciding. I live in pembine and none of the Marinette county trails allow bikes. More than that, I want to put it behind the Cannon my semi. I’ve never had a bike but I understand the 250’s are low on torque and I get used to new “toys” rather quick so buying one even to learn on would probably be disappointing. So then I started looking at the crf 450 but now too off road and from what I’ve seen of our Wisconsin trails I’m not so sure I really need to be on the dirt bike side of the spectrum. Now I think I might be aimed more toward the bmw gs line but seems like I might be overstepping a bit that way for my first bike which, by the way, will also be the bike I license on. I hate this!!! Lol

SWANKY CAT maybe need to just start with the CRF 450 to start, plan on keeping it for those more off road situations, like your single favorite single track, and just buy the adv later for the more on road and fire road type days and just keep 2 bikes. Not seeing a real good alternative. Although the KLR’s are still a good middle ground however I understand they’re not the greatest on a highway.
@jimriley2812
@jimriley2812 4 жыл бұрын
SWANKY CAT so am seriously going to buy something. Handling wise, to learn on, would the be a terrible place to start in comparison to a 250? I know there’s BBC a weight difference but seems to me that can be a good thing from what I’ve been able to understand.
