Just a quick comparison of my old AT and my Buddy's T7. I rode them back to back on a very muddy and sandy trail.

Bought the T7 as a first bike. Love it, especially when you get used to it, now it fits me like a glove.

Thanks for the comparison! I've never ridden the t7 or a African twin! Watched a lots of videos. I'm bike poor roadking, cbr1000rr, versys 300x and wr250r if I had to get rid of all but one I'm keeping my wr just fun and enjoyable!

I like T7 more it have special spot in my heart love that thing But if i need bigger adv i would go for AT instead of GS And another thing is T7 is clean from all the electronics meanwhile AT is filled with all the electronics you can imagine IMO T7 is true ADV and have enough power that is comfortable in sand and dirt and other offroading stuff and also good enough on roads and highways meanwhile you can't ride AT in tricky offroad because of stupidly over power that you need electronic assistance to get it in control and i really hope honda will make similar thing like T7 with balanced power with no electronics Saying this as a fan of yamaha honda and kawasaki im enthusiastic about their bikes

Good comparison. There's different category regarding bikes. Like you said you choose your wr250 because it does great on dirt, but try to take that on street and cross country. Thats where the T7 and AT comes in. It all depend what's you're into and get that bike accordingly.

If Honda releases the Transalp 750 in the USA this next year I would have to consider that. Otherwise I'm planning on the Tenere 700. I looked at the Tuareg 660 but the nearest dealer is like 300 miles away and I'm alittle nervous about possible reliability issues. seems like they have lots of seal/gasket leaks on that Aprilia 660 motor. Really dumb stuff they shouldn't have to worry about. The Africa Twin looks great but is heavier and costs 50% more.

Thanks for this match. I am short rider on experience and long on size 6'2". I ride a MY16 AT, manual, and love it. As I go further on off road I feel the weight of the AT, although it is very nimble. I tried the T7 and it feels lighter, it fits my size (as the AT does), it has (more than) enough power for my skills, but.... I am considering a swap, because I usually ride more and more off road and I need to improve my skills. Each drop on the AT scares my bank account, and my doctor as there are no more spares for my bones. But, when going for my rides there is always some road miles to go and back, sometimes on highway. Then, surely the AT is superior to the T7 and I would regret loosing it. So, my doubt right now is: a) swap the AT for a T7 as a "do it all" bike; or b) keep the AT and buy a training mule for offroading. This last option brings another problem: I can't fit on a DRZ. I tried one (not fitted to tall rider's) and couldn't feel it easier than the AT. Or a XT 650? Would love to have your opinions about which bike would fit as a training mule for tall guys.

Africa Twin and an old thumper. The twin is a legend reborn I cant get rid off. Parts are double priced than that of the Yam. it is heavier. But just as heavy as its father. So it is fine with me. Crashed into a deer and the twin survived. If a Tenere does that I'll get one. Just messing. All the experience I have had with the AT makes it impossible to sell it. Emotional value is a thing.

I love both, I was all Africa twin, then I saw how good and less gadgetry the T7 has so I was all T7, now from your video I'm all Africa twin again haha I'm 6,2 so I'm good either way, but the sound of the Africa twin does it for me so I'm all Africa twin, BUT, it will boil down to price, all though the sound of the Africa twin will always win for me and it's looks, I need to watch more reviews on both, but I'm now thinking I'm going to be going for the Africa twin, that sound is heavenly everything else I can work with and adapt to. ooohh decisions decisions.

I would choose the Honda if it would be thinner. As it is if nothing new is announced at EICMA I will have to choose between the T700 with it's infinite mods or the Ducati Desert X (got to test both). Price wise The T700 would bring me at around 14.000/15.000 EUR without the fuel pouches that mount on the crashbars. The Desert X around 17.000 EUR or more. The Ducati has awsome power, feels great on trails and it's not as wide as a honda nor as slim as a T700, it's somewhat in the middle. Ride it if you can.

I liked both. Liked the Yamaha more, felt like it had more character. Overall the WR250 is king tho lol. What insight and info did you have regarding the chassis on the 3 in comparison?
@OgreMoto
@OgreMoto 2 жыл бұрын
Chassis on the WR is by far the most stout between the 3. It’s really thick, solid aluminum. Plus the suspension on the WR is better than both these bikes too. On paper and by feel imo. The T7 and AT just have a tubular steel chassis like KTM’s do, nothing too special and it’s just the cheapest to manufacture of the 3. The only difference between them and the Kato’s is that there’s a thicker chunk of steel behind the engine cradle. Probably helps with steering head warp over time like KTM dirtbikes experience.

I’m torn on these. The t7 would be better for in town and trails but the AT would be better with a passenger and long distance. I have a drz now, I can keep that for the harder stuff. The T7 will probably keep me out of trouble too lol. The faster the bike is the faster I ride.

@@Fire10180 how do you like it? Have you done a long ride in 1 day ? I need a bike that I can ride all day and be somewhat comfortable too. I’d like to be able to do 200-250 miles in a day and not hate life lol. I did 110 on my drz and I was beat. That’s expected though. The drz sucks on the freeway. I’ll only go a few exits before I get off. I don’t want to kill my bike.

@@kyjelly5524 I’ve had a couple 200+ mile days. It handles it just fine, seat is optimized for trail riding rather than comfort though. Good thing ab them though is you can just stand up and stretch out when you inevitably get sore. It’s my first bike so I really don’t have much to compare it to but it’s been a total dream. You forgot the DR...where's the Doctor? Haaa. First it was KLR vs DR. Then looking at suspension costs, other mods and power it was like ok, spend a bit more for the T7. Then it's hearing the AT roar like a lion which sounds awesome. But then it comes back around to you'll always have to do suspension work if your old and fat like me plus adding a larger fuel tank on the DR and T7. It just never ends does it. Spreadsheet time to determine full cost. Oh I should probably mention I don't ride off-road yet and need to learn. Why would I go beyond the DR for a first bike? Add the bigger tank, drop the front gear a tooth, go with better suspension, warranty expires then do the carb and air cleaner mods. Later go for the 790 kit, big head, exhaust. Then I'm back into the T7 price range. At least the T7 has adjustable suspension even if the spring are too light. Bla bla bla old man, STFU.

Wonder how DR650 compares to both of them, off-road?
@OgreMoto

DR650 would obviously be more robust and probably better in the really loose and mucky stuff, but I’d rather be on one of these over a DR simply because they fit me better height wise.
