今回は久々にDIYの動画です、気の表面を削って薄くできるドラムサンダーを作りました。
ドラムサンダーは木材の表面を研磨して平らに美しくする機械です。
一度に多くの表面を切削することは出来ませんが、（一回の最大研磨量は大体0.2mm ）表面を「切削」するのではなく「研磨」するため、加工時に割れや欠けが発生しにくく、木目の方向にかかわらず加工できるのが大きな特徴です。
このために薄い材料や、プレナーでは決して仕上げることのできない木口面、逆目のひどい杢入り材や目の絡んだ銘木の表面など、複雑な木目を持っている材料も安心して研磨することができます。
丁寧に仕上げられた表面は凹凸のない平面。手作業での研磨では生み出すことが難しい美しい仕上がりを、簡単に、そして驚くほど短時間で作り出すことができます。
今回のものは最大で２０cmの木材しか研磨できませんが、いつかテーブルの天板を作れるサイズのものが作りたいです。
This time, it's a DIY video after a long while. I made a drum sander that can thin down the surface of wood.
A drum sander is a machine that sands and smooths the surface of wood. Although it cannot remove a lot of material at once (the maximum sanding amount per pass is about 0.2mm), it sands rather than cuts the surface. This makes it less prone to cracks or chips during processing, and it can work regardless of the grain direction, which is a significant feature.
Because of this, you can safely sand thin materials, end grain surfaces that a planer could never finish, and wood with complex grain patterns such as highly figured wood with severe reverse grain.
The carefully finished surface is a smooth, even plane. It can create a beautiful finish that is difficult to achieve with hand sanding, easily and in surprisingly little time.
This one can only sand wood up to 20 cm wide, but someday I want to make one that can handle table-sized surfaces.
