It is very often that main console releases of a popular series overshadow the portable titles. And that is definitely the case for the Tenkaichi series. Dragon Ball Z Tenkaichi Tag team was developed by Spike for the playstation portable. It came out back in 2010 with little to no fanfare.
To be honest I’d never even heard of this game until very recently. But it was the exact same with the shin budokai games, I’d never even heard of them, let alone played them and they turned out to be fantastic.
Handheld games by necessity are usually made with smaller teams, smaller budgets and less marketing. This may seem like a net negative but sometimes lesser risk allows the developers to be more experimental. This is where Tenkaichi Tag Team comes in, promising a unique twist to the Tenkaichi gameplay.
But is it any good?

In Japanese games, W tends to stand for "Double" Took me years to figure that one out too, but it's practically a pun based on how "W" sounds similar to "double" when both are written in katakana.

For me, the main DBZ games were the ones on the PSP. Then I got a PS2 and got Tenkaichi 3 and fell in love with it. My personal favorite dragon ball game. But my point is, my childhood would’ve been FACTUALLY better if I knew there was a Tenkaichi on the PSP

I hope they bring back the tag team functionality in BT4. What I liked about Tag Team was that you aren’t forced to play 2v2. You can do 1v1 and it plays exactly the same as a BT game so I would love to see them add the feature 😭

Played it while recovering from surgery my oldest brother was nice enough to let me check it out a few times I can play this nowadays through PSP emulator still love it today 😊😊

This was my fill in for the Tenkaichi games before I got a PS2 to play the older ones years later XD. The ost was pretty amazing for me. I just spent times listening in the respective menus like the fool I was

So about the way tag-team actions are called W-actions, my guess is that W stands for "double." There was an anime called Tiger Mask W where the title in Japanese was pronounced "Tiger Mask Double" because it followed the story of two characters. So I think W to represent doubles or pairs is just a Japanese-ism.

The emulator PPSSPP makes it possible to play PSP games on PC/Android and even adds HD filters which makes PSP games look very impressive. Shin Budokai 2 in HD via PPSSPP looks absolutely amazing, like a brand new game, no joke?

I use to play this game a lot with my brothers growing up. And yet sometimes I can say this game is a better experience playing in multiplayer Is a fun experience, if you can do it one day, I recommend it

This was the first tenkaichi i played. I loved the tag team style snd the special dialogue people had like second form frieza and semi perfect cell. Id love to see the tag team return one day

I actually had this game when I was in like 7th grade. I played it for maybe an hour and never touched it again bc I was so used to the motion controls from Wii BT3 I just couldnt have been bothered to learn how to play it

I remember spending countless hours into tag team on psp it's impressive how it holds up considering the limitations on it, the story was good and the what if scenario was a great idea because at least it's a reimagine of the story rather than mixing up and cramming everything in the game

It would be pretty nuts if the devs added 2vs2 to the new Tenkaichi with the ability to do local split screen co-op. Playing co op missions with your buddy sitting next to you would be next level nostalgic.

I played this game on emulator on my bad android phone. It's fun but it was slow and choppy. Now I got a Samsung Galaxy A32 it runs so smooth that I could play it all day. Also I started seeing other kids playing it on their android phone back in 2016. I still play it till this day.

I really feel BT3 had better combat to do a multiplayer Dragonball game. Xenoverse feels very floaty and doesnt hit as hard. Kakarot did it better than Xenoverse but still doesn't beat BT3.

My problem with Tenkaichi 3 is that attacks are basically cutscenes with little to no input from the player. And some of them are too good like SSJ4 Gogeta's I so much appreciated XenoVerse for not doing the same Cutscene super attack thing than the Tenkaichi series did. Which makes sense since it's an online focus game.

I've always wanted to play this one but never did. Its pretty much a downgraded tenkaichi 2/3 so I didn't see the urgency. However, it is odd that a feature such as 2v2 battles is stuck on an old handheld. Maybe it will be a mode in tenkaichi 4

I have to say that I LOVE Tenkaichi Tag Team. It plays like Tenkaichi3 (maybe with little tweeks) and I love it to beat the shit out of two enemies at the same time! Sometimes I think you have no clothes on because your hair covers it xDDD

For a second i was watching and thinking to myself "...Are my eyes wrong?... Is she naked?". Needed to run back the video LMAOOO. I played so many hours of this game with my friends using the AC Hoc or whatever the proximity online play of the PSP was. One of my favorite Dragon Ball games. Is just straight up fun and impressive good for being a mobile version of the Tenkaichi series.
