Oh, is mountain of faith. My mortal enemy. Edit: Random info fact, Zun had some weird rushed development about this game. You can notice due several factors, like how there is only Marisa and Reimu as playable characters and they don't have their spell cards as bomb option, only a generic explosion. Also Kanako easy is much harder than normal.

1:59 to be fair, that's a known bug by ZUN. He messed up, so the bullets have smaller sprites but still the old big hitbox.

It’s just a pure test of focus, you can kinda enter a zen state after a while where you can’t be touched by most patterns and it feels really satisfying.

Touhou is honestly one of the fairer Bullet Hell series. When you know what to look for (mainly bullets aimed at you and gaps in bullets) you can generally get through without too much issue. Especially since it's fairly generous with lives and bombs and usually gives enough time to see what a pattern does before it becomes lethal. It's not like some other Bullet Hells that rely heavily on twitch reflexes and being perfect the whole way through. (Aside from 15. 15 doesn't even feel like a Touhou game.)

Also not sure what you mean by suffering lol, the continue system in these games is way more punishing and frustrating In the other games you continue right where you died so you can just brute force your way through any stage and then unlock it for the stage practice mode, nice and easy In these games you have to go through all the previous stages first, which makes accidental quits like these and even intentional quits (such as just playing on a different day) more annoying, and then once you reach the stage you have to beat it with the 3 starting lives no matter what. In typical 1cc runs you'll always ideally rack up extra lives in the earlier stages so you might have something like 5-7 lives for the final stages but here you must do it with the 3 you're given. Which also means if you accidentally die too early then you'll just give up and intentionally game over just so you can retry again (like Tenma did several times)

Some of the games do (Touhou 10-12 most notably), but you're technically stuck in that level unless you clear it since you start from the beginning of the level when you lose. Sure, you can do it endlessly, but it's gonna be frustrating when you see yourself playing that level several times without progress.

Why, oh why, in all the FUCKS of the world, would a game have an option to return to the main menu when you lose and why is it selected as default? OMFG JUST RESET THE SYSTEM if you're gonna stop playing. Sometimes, JP game designers baffle me to no end and I can't understand what's going on in that mind of theirs.

So you can get back to the menu fast and try again. You are supposed to clear it with one credit, so its not bad design choices but the intended one.
