Based on the grommets, it looks like he's using the new one. The VS has spin grommets at 12 and 6, the 98 has regular grommets everywhere. For 2023, looks like he switched to the new grommets.

I have been testing rackets for some weeks now to replace my first racket (Wilson Pro Open BLX). Having tested the Aero 98, I personally preferred the Vcore 98 feel and thus decided to purchase it today. It's strung with 24kg / Poly Tour Pro and loving it :) I may need to delve more into strings because I'm quite new to testing rackets and strings.
@TennCom
@TennCom 10 ай бұрын
If you like the strings as is, there's an argument to not fixing what aint broke. Tons of pro's are loving PTP and I personally think its an excellent string. If you want to try something with more spin, but a similar feel, I would recommend Toroline Caviar.

I'm an old school heavy racket flat hitter but I played the Aero Pro and it's no doubt the most fun stick I've ever played with but it's so fun I just swing out of my shoes and I get too wild on it. It's not for me due to my style but it's a thrill. I play a ProStaff v14 weighted up to 350g. Pretty much the EXACT opposite of the Babolat.

Nice video, as usual! How do you feel the PA98 fares into your 98’ tier list? Also, how do you see it compared to the Ezone 98 and the ‘21 VCP 97’ 310 for allcourt attacking game?
@TennCom
@TennCom 10 ай бұрын
I think the PA98 deserves S Tier personally. Its a very impressive racquet. More spin, power and stability than the EZONE or VCP. Less feel that both I think. Control is probably the worst on the Aero, but its not such a big deal for me because I was hitting so much spin that I could use safe targets and really punish my opponent, whereas with the EZONE, in stock form, I never felt like I could do damage against a decent player

Hey Beckett. I just purchased the PA98 after watching your feedback on it. I strung it with RPM Blast 1.20 gauge with a tension of 52lb. (I'm a UTR4.5 player). ReaIly stable and powerful racquet! I however find it very stiff and unforgiving especially if I miss the sweet spot. Any advice on an alternative string setup? Thanks!
@TennCom
@TennCom 9 ай бұрын
I've had really good success with Toroline Wasabi. The spin and control are very close to RPM Blast imo but its quite a bit softer for the vibrations. I think you can get a set from them for a low a $6 from their website and you can use my discount code on top of that (link in desc). If that doesn't work for you, I'd try either Polytour Pro or Hyper-G Soft.

You realize the racket hes using is very stable. It's light but the flex is very high, that's how they get away with it. Just like rackets that are heavy (stable) have a low flex. In the grand scheme of things, all rackets are the same. What I mean by that is, you either have light racket with high stiffness or heavy racket with low stiffness, these combinations result in the same outcome.

Hi! Sorry to ask a question that you might have answered in a vid (I haven't found one): What do you think about using the Clash 100 pro as a high level racket not focusing on arm comfort? I have always played well with it but I was wondering if it may be putting me at a disadvantage against my high school opponents. I use hyper g in it at 52lbs and I just never thought about my racket until recently. Also, if you so think that it might be putting me at a disadvantage, are there any modification that could help?
@TennCom
@TennCom 10 ай бұрын
I think it flexes too much at high level play which can lead to an inconsistent response. You can't really fix it because its to do with the graphite. If you like the racquet, you can totally win with it. Last month I lost to a 16 year old who used one so its not like it matters that much.

As someone who doesn't get paid to play tennis, I would never recommend using any racket with high flex. Carlos can get away with it, cuz hes getting paid millions. Hes basically trading his arm for money. If you use a high flex racket, you're trading your arm for nothing. Also, why would you want to be in pain? I've never met anyone who used a babolat who wasn't in terrible arm/shoulder pain, including me.

Definitely more power than the Radical. Up there with the Pure Strike, if not slightly more powerful. 330 might be a bit much but you can go for a thinner string to lighten the head. Tennis Warehouse measures their racquets with 16g poly (1.30) so if you go for 18g (1.20 or less) that will help.

I used Speed Pros for years but their feel has changed so I tried other racquets and found the PA98 quite sensational and as a person that struggled with elbow pain I don’t see this racquet ever causing issues as the feel is so clean and zero impact on my arm…I’m curious what tension people use that are getting pain, I’ve dropped to 48lbs and think I’ll go even lower, so much better feel
@TennCom
@TennCom 6 ай бұрын
My hypothesis is that elbow pain is less related to stiffness and vibration and more related to how a certain racquet influences a player's technique. I got some wrist pain from using Silver 7 Tour at 52lbs, but it only started into the 3rd straight hour of tennis so part of the story is fatigue as well.

@@TennCom yeh it’s a strange one, I got instant pain after my first few shots with Vcore 97D@48lbs which is a really flexible racquet and I’ve felt zero discomfort with the PA98 and Pure Strike…I must say though my second time hitting with the 97D I didn’t get pain so maybe I wasn’t warmed up or something just tweaked that day

@TennCom

smaller grips allow for more wrist mobility and larger grips feel more stability because you can apply more torque to the racquet. I think its largely preference though, like Fed uses 3/8 and Dimi uses 5/8 even though they look quite similar

@TennCom
@TennCom 6 ай бұрын
I think the feel is a little bit more direct on the PA98 but TBH I don't see it as a worthy switch. I'd say launch angle sits somewhere between the Strikes 16x19 and 18x20, but you can probably just dial in tension on the 16x19 to achieve similar results. It'll be interesting to see how Babolat updates the Strikes in January to see if there's any real differentiation between the models.

You almost got me! In the video I say UNSTRUNG. If you check Babolat's website, they quote a 71RA. I am aware that some outlets are quoting 65 strung but I don't think that's a clear representation of the playability of the racquet. Further, if the targeted RA is 71, its more than possible those retail outlets got samples with poor QC, as RA can vary significantly in either direction.

@@TennCom but the Radical MP 2023 also has a Strung Flex Rating of 65, so this should not be a lot more stiff, my point is that the flex rating is kind of similar. The pure aero is just a very bad racquet, and babolat did not sell it well until Alcaraz got successful with it. The conclusion is not that this is a winner racquet, meaning it is reliable and predictable. Because Alcaraz performances were so surprisingly up and down, not only in tournaments, but also in matches, and above all within the sets. And that is exactly what this racquet feels like : unpredictable. In fact, we have to consider Alcaraz failures, knowing his potential. How many more wins would he have achieved with a more predictable racket.

I love both the 98 and the VS. The VS, being more head light, seems more manoeuvrable but also less stable and puts less free punch to balls. Other rackets I love and use frequently are the VCore 98 (feels even less manoeuvrable but sends balls like missiles) and the Blade 98 (somewhat in the middle, better control, less spin / power and more comfortable, great for flatter balls). However, due to the spin and power of the Aero 98/VS I tend to win more matches with these. High balls with lot of spin are a pain to players 😅
