Just in case you read this one punch; Because you change around racquets, strings and tensions, it will take a very long time to get the correct benefit from any hybrid. The board of players and their string setups was really interesting. But at any rate, I've been hybriding for about 15 years in an effort to save money on Champion's choice and here's where I've landed and why. * So right off the bat I'm in a different world than a hard hitting 5.0 playing Big Banger in a Pure Drive. My racquet setup has dropped to a SW of 315, I"m playing the Shift 300 99. * My holy grail of string setup would be a little of everything, but it has to be comfortable. My bed needs to give me spin when I want it, control always and a bit of pop. In the hybird game you can dial in any level of pocketing you desire, but I've learned that a bit of crispness and some pocketing are ideal for control. Too much pocketing might feel great on the arm, but many balls will go into the net. So here's what works and what doesn't: Works: Mid range tension. Mains: Power, spin, not too stiff. Crosses: control, comfort. Does not work: Weird tensions might start off ok but change constantly and you'll get lost. The exception is if one string loses a bunch of tension quickly and then settles (Game changer comes to mind). Mains: too stiff and under powered given the climate. I can play Head Lynx Tour in the summer but not the winter. Crosses: I think the selection of crosses is the most important variable in the hybrid setup, here's what doesn't work for me: #1 high power or very slippery strings like Ghost Wire or Cream. These kinds of crosses result in terrible launch and no control. Finding one that works is not easy, but I have 2 that I can count on. They're both poly's, stiffer (lower power) and not overly slick. Right now it's winter, I'm playing in 40-60 degree buildings, my strings are Ghost Wire or Game changer in the mains, Isospeed v18 or Tec Ice Code in the crosses. Either string at about 50.

I have been using two types of strings in my racquets since 1990s my dude. I use a 16g gut on my mains, and 17g topspin strings on my crosses. I usually get my crosses strung 4lbs lighter than my mains. But I was playing with the Wilson Profiles 95 and those racquets eat up strings. Great job on the video my friend.

Aloha Beckett, I love your creativity and the drama was DRAMATIC! I was waiting to see if tears were going to start flowing down your face! 😢 On the serious side, have you ever tried a thick-thin poly/poly hybrid setup? Like a 17g main and 18g cross, or a 16g/17g? I've been using this thick-thin setup for a while now and believe it can combine the best of both worlds. In my opinion (theory), there are three benefits. 1) Since the mains are the "working strings," you get durability and control from the thicker main strings. 2) Since the crosses are the "supporting strings," you get more power from the thinner strings. 3) The spin potential is enhanced, with the thicker mains "popping out" of the string bed due to the thinner crosses, allowing the main strings to grab the ball more (string-to-ball friction), while the thinner cross string will allow for more snapback (string-to-string friction). As for a main string, would you consider a (uniform) textured string like Babolat RPM Rough 17? I've been using this as a main string because of its decent tension maintenance and spin potential, combined with an 18-gauge round or very slightly shaped cross string. I feel the uniform textured string creates a more "pocketing" feel as opposed to a round string that feels like it "takes off." Anyway, food for thought! 🤙

As per your typical genius, you've already predicted next steps, which I'm currently testing. Tour Bite Diamond Rough 16/new ReString 18. Great ball bite without the launchiness of a shaped string and without the poor snapback of a full bed of rough.

Hey guys. Your channel is really cool. I'm thinking about making a hybrid with the game changer (main) and sniper tour (cross), and/or game changer (main) and M8 (cross). Do you think it would be a good mix for spin but at the same time have control in terms of ball direction, consistency, predictability? Blade V9 16x19. I like angles, variations, entering the court more than staying at the bottom and spinning too high (hence the "obsession" with direction lol). I'm looking for more control, not so much spin. Do you have any suggestions using these mentioned strings?

I've been using a hybrid poly setup for the last 2 years. I went from using a full bed of Hyper G 17 gauge on a Pure Aero 2019 to using Hyper G 17 gauge in the mains and IsoSpeed Spin 17 gauge in the crosses. I found that Hyper G was just too stiff and lacked too much power as a full bed. With the IsoSpeed Spin 17 in the cross I find that I get snap back with the Hyper G like never before, more control and more power with the different cross. Plus, I haven't felt like I lost any spin potential.

Heavy topspin player here with an Aero 98 - and I'm finding heavily shaped strings (game changer, wasabi pro hybrid) are punishing while I'm trying to add more flat shots to my game. I've found myself going back to 6-siders on the crispy side (tour bite, also like confidential and super toro), but am interested in trying some hybrids for the feel. I've got a half set of Touch VS waiting in my bag for it's perfect partner, and thinking of giving Tour Bite 17 / Touch VS 16 a go. But I also have sets of Sniper, M8, Lynx Tour, K-Pop, Razor Soft... all have yet to be tried. Question, I have to play tennis on a budget, I would like to play with a softer setup and keep my opponent on the base line. Currently using solinco confidential 18g @55lbs for control and I love it but find that the ball hits the service line or maybe a foot past the service line and my opponent just steps in and crushes balls. Should I be trying to go for a hybrid setup with poly/multi, poly/poly or poly/gut? I cannot afford to change strings every month or every other month unfortunately and am looking for a setup that can last the length of a rec league season. I’m a 3.5 player, I play singles/doubles and play two to three times a week with a 2 hour group lesson once a week. I’m lost and looking for advice. O and I string at 55 cause if I string at lower tension with the 18g the strings just loosens up to much and ball just flys on me. Is this Soprano ending going to be a sort of trend here now or som'in? To be fair Ultra Cable is pretty sharp. Maybe not as sharp as a star-shaped string, sure, but for a squared string its edges are incredibly defined. Maybe it's because they reshape a round string into a square, not sure if shaving it or compressing, I think the latter. Same for Rock and Power. Do I remember correctly that you once suggested as a substitute for zero/wasabi, in terms of snapback, MSV swift (among others, such as PT Fire)? If so, have you tried Bussard? According to them is more oriented to control and spin, was wondering if it could make a good cross as well (great price-point). Also, Poly Power Pro from Pacific has an outstanding "score" in TWUs in terms of string friction. I only tried a full bed in a Prestige MP GT gen (the PT57A mold, same 18x20 pattern as the pro tour as well so pretty dense), and have to say allowed pretty decent spin. Also, PT Rev from Yonex is basically same as PT fire but 8-sided?

Why don't you just use syn gut at 60?
@TennCom
@TennCom 3 ай бұрын
Genuinely? It's so much easier to hit heavy balls with full poly. Maybe if I play a lot of serve and volley I'd prefer syngut, but I never go to net.
@maruydasilva
@maruydasilva 3 ай бұрын
@@TennCom I use a full bed of syn gut at 60 lb with my CX 200 tour, and I really think it's good. My only problem with this setup is durability, but syn gut is cheap so it's fine. And, by the way, I know it sounds like I'm a 60 year old, and I swear I'm not. I'm actually 17, if you can believe it.
@TennCom
@TennCom 3 ай бұрын
@@maruydasilva i'm sure it plays great but its not a setup that'll maximize my game personally. Even a hybrid with multi mains reduces my performance significantly since my game is built around spin and i grew up using full poly

This snap back thing is such a bs myth! In a millisecond at contact, the string will move like 5mm and snap back giving the ball any energy, especially considering how enormous the impact from collision is. Seriously?

@@TennCom I don’t deny that snap back happens. But it has any impact on the ball that has so much momentum and weight at that moment? Really?

@@TennCom I’m not a physicist. Can’t tell if this experiment is scientifically valid. There’s only one way to test it. Same racket, same string, same tension but you (somehow) fix the mains and crosses in one racket to measure the difference in spin. Even then when you glue the cross and mains intersections, that’ll change the tension. So it’s not easy to do a really controlled experiment.
@snickaren111
@snickaren111 Ай бұрын
Your intuition is absolutely right. Snap back might have a spin effect on the NEXT SHOT since the strings are rightly placed again, and not dislocated from the shot before. But to think that snap back affect the ball in real time is just nuts. (I can imagine that the slow motion footage might look cool though, as if snap back would give the ball energy upon impact, but that is nothing that really happens..)

These poor people use the modern giant artificial rackets and artificial strings to give them the things they cannot develop themselves. It’s the person not the racket/strings. When tennis was really played by talented people in the 80’s and early 90’s they had one rackets gut strings and a bottle of water. The talent had to come from within. Now you have a society full of tennis nuts who spend their days looking for something to assist them in playing. Can you imagine if they actually had to play with real equipment.

@@TennComDo a spinoff channel where you go down the golf rabbit hole and along the way you’ll be able to show how relatable the 2 sports are. I think you’d grow the 2 channels and the audiences would merge. The OP is right, your production is so good that you’ve got to branch out to bigger audiences and golf is cool now lol

Honestly does nobody have muscles? I could beat sinner 6-0 6-0 6-0 at the ao, but if I was playing my legendary Idol, Jack sock, who changed to the dominant sport, he would triple bagel me easy (or however our W sport's scoring system works). That just proves how intense our glorious sport is.
