Lyrics to "Tennessee Waltz":
I was dancing with my darling to the Tennessee Waltz
When an old friend I happened to see
I introduced her to my loved one
And while they were dancing
My friend stole my sweetheart from me
I remember the night and the Tennessee Waltz
Now I know just how much I have lost
Yes, I lost my little darling the night they were playing
The beautiful Tennessee Waltz
Repeat verse
Chorus
Transcript of the end:

I'm 45 years old. This was one of the songs my grandmother use to sing to me when I was a kid. I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for keeping this in the general spirit of the original song while at the same time interpreting it in your own style. In my own humble opinion, for whatever it's worth, I found this a fitting tribute to Hank's original. Thanks.

If you mean Hank Williams, I think you're mistaken. The song was written and first released in 1948 by the Golden West Cowboys. In 1950 Patti Page had a monster hit with it and it became her signature song. She double tracked her vocals and the girls harmonizing is hauntingly reminiscent. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tennessee_Waltz

in the 1950s, we had a 78 rpm recording of the tennessee waltz. my poor dad made the mistake one day of remarking that it was his favorite song. from then on, my little sister and i would queue it up every single day and play it when he walked in the door after work. he must have been so sorry he had opened his mouth. RIP dad.

This song was released while my mother was pregnant with my eldest brother. She adapted the song with some nonsense lyrics to use as a lullaby (so she wouldn't have to think of real words at 2:00 am...) It became her _Go-to_ lullaby for four sons, three grandsons, two granddaughters, and one great granddaughter. Not to mention kittens, puppies, that need cuddlingly and lullabying... etc, etc etc,,, She would sing _Nee nee niegh neigh, nipsy no no, nipsy neigh neigh nipsy noodle..._ ect... I was actually fourteen before I realized _That Song_ was _The Tennessee Waltz._

I met the two sisters of the man who wrote this song about 15 years ago, in nashville. They told me the whole story behind this song. It was by chance, it was golden. Yall are great! ❤

That must have been wonderful.. could you share even just a little bit of that story? This is probably the most emotional song for me I don't know why... It kills me everytime I hear it

@marco7858 it was that way for my mother as well. It was a chance meeting, these two women were on their way to Gatlinburg. It was in a restaurant. We struck up a conversation, and out of the blue, I mentioned the song. They both turned to me and then each other and gawked and laffed. Then the one woman said, the writer was her brother (or both of them were sisters), and they told me some personal information about the inspiration for the lyrics. It's funny how some THING can inspire a song. Songs to me are like poetry, personal and different at different points in your life. It's what's between the lines that we individually fill in. I think I almost know what the song meant to my mother. But the song to her I think is different than the original writers "muse." I will say, its patty pages version that I think is "the magic one." So when she crafted it is the period in which it enchanted my mother. Wish I could tell you more, but those ladies had an intimate conversation with me. I could see it in their eyes, them going back to that time period from a personally deep perspective. And I honor their trust in the "stranger" in a chance meeting in time. What does that song invoke in you?

My grandmother used to get teary eyed to this song and once told the story of the man she really loved and planned to marry. She became promised to another (my grandfather) through a death bed promise to his dying mother. She loved her young man from a distance for the rest of her life and as it turned out, he never did marry another. She told me to follow my heart at all costs. I like to think that they're finally together waltzing in heaven. 💕💕🎵🎵

When I was a little boy, I used to beg my mother to play this for me on our old 16 RPM record player. She would play it and sing along for me. Now I'm in my 60's and hearing you perform it so beautifully carried me back all those years. Thank you.
