Jack Daniels would not say underrated, but rather under-looked. Chang was under the huge shadow of Pete and Andre, who not only were much better tennis players, but were far more marketable, specially Agassi. Then you also have Jim Courier, who between 91 and 96 was a force to be reckoned with, winning twice in RG and twice in Australia and reaching the finals of the other two Majors. He also accomplished more than Chang. As for Chang opening the door for them...I think that is partially true. Agassi was the first one to garner notoriety in 88 by reaching the semis in RG and the US Open, yielding to Wilander and Lendl respectively, the two best players in the world at the time and he went the distance with them.

660+ wins as to go with. Slam win and 3 other Slam RUP finishes. Several Masters titles. Reached 2 in the world. He was a really hard worker and a nice guy. He was like the Lleyton Hewitt of his generation, with a much nicer disposition.

That's a BEAT DOWN of the number 1 player in the world. Having said that, it's a well-known fact that clay was NEVER Sampras' best surface. Pete never won a French Open and the closest he ever got in that slam was a single semi-final appearance. Chang destroyed him and played on his best surface (besides hard courts).

Sampras would play 3 RG quarterfinals in a row,he was doing pretty well on clay till the 1997,won Rome and Kitzbuhel ,but considering his grass and hard courts achievements it was nothing,his game didn't suit the clay especially the European.

Sampras was a clown on clay... so it wasn't that impressive.

@@channelglenn hahaha true. but Tennis is not big at my place anyway. my parents watch Tennis a lot because they used to live in the UK. but in my country, it was very hard for me to play tennis. i went far playing basketball tho. so she is fine with it. it's just that she always brings up the story of how she watched Michael Chang won Roland Garros the night before she birthed me and the nurses were mad because she was not resting as she was supposed to. and we are from Asian country so Michael Chang is a big deal.
